#1...on the seaside

i am breaking this thread into several different ones because they seem to get to long and off topic otherwise.

This first one is mainly about the cabin. Although I am in the Yacht Club some comments apply to all.

My perspective is that I am old and have been cruising for decades and been on Divina 4 times.

First, I am sitting here with my coffee and pastry. I put the tag on the door at night for 7 in the morning and they are here right on time. They do NOT ever bring napkins so bring your own .it is hard to find them around the ship to take.

I had YouTubed these yc1 cabins so I was not surprised by the incredibly small closet or the lack of balcony furniture. The balcony is a good size but you get 2 small chairs and a footstool that they will tell you doubles as a small table.

The bathroom is nice with good storage. Unlike some other postings I have read, the toiletries are sparce.

You get 2 small bars of soap and a small tube of body wash. No lotion or conditioner or sewing kit/nailfile/etc,

On the wall in the shower is a shampoo pump which is ok and a body wash which is not very good. You need a lot to get any suds.

The ‘interactive’ tv is a bit of a nightmare. They will tell you that you need to book all your shows for the week. You can do it but it takes a long time...very confusing.

You can only look at the balance of your account. No breakdown of items or credits. You have to go get a printed out breakdown for that.

There is a small couch area next to the bed but there does not seem to be anyway to turn on the lights over that area only.

You have to put your key card in a slot by the door to get lights. A card from anywhere else will not work.

I hav found 2 drawbacks to this. If I leave and pull my card out and my husband is still in the room, the lights go out. I do love the wristband that opens the door as at night I sometimes return with a drink and snack and I just tap the door to unlock. Problem is once I am in! I can see anything because the room is dark and I them have to fumble for the key to turn the lights on.

Who tells you that you have to book all of your shows for the week. All at once? There was just another post that said that the Concierge can make show reservations for you. Have you tried that?

Disappointing to hear about the toiletries, but I guess I'll just bring some of my own. Do I have to bring my own bar of soap too?

Thanks for the review. Looking forward to more.:p

Thank you for your comments. It helps me know what to expect! Another poster said that the concierge was able to help with the booking of shows, but it sounds like that isn't always the case. Have a wonderful cruise!

Hi and thank you for your insights while you are on vacation.

I'm also in the YC next month so have two questions.

Is there a reason why you have to take your card out of the slot at all if you have the wristband in your possession?

Can the wristband be used for charging, opening door, etc.? If so, I'll leave my card in the slot so air can stay on and electronics get charged.

I am expecting to give the concierge my list of shows/restaurants to book, just as I would in NCL Haven.

If MSC concierge cannot do this for you, what specifically are they even there for to assist? I'm only asking since you are not the first or even second person mention on these or FB groups that they are making their own reservations while in YC.

Thank you so much!

On the Seaside now. We left one of our cards in the slot to charge things and when we came back the cabin attendant left it in the slot but lifted it and the power went out. The card in the slot causes a red light outside the cabin that tells him to stay out. When you remove the card it changed to green and he can do his work. We have booked our own shows on the electronic boards just outside the Yacht Club. We only book a day ahead of time or early that day. There is always room at the late show. If you want the earlier show, book it early. Especially Timeless, the best show. Bob

There was a first day we.come talk before the safety drill.

They said the theater holds 900 people and there were 5,000 onboard. They suggested making reservations for the week so I did. They DO check your cruise card before you enter. If no reservation....you have to wait until 5 minutes before showtime. I went to the 8:15 show last night and it was packed.

The concierge was quite busy so I opted to book on the TV

You get 2 very small bars of soap.

They want your card out of the slot so they know you are not in the room. I do wear my wrist band most of the time but others find it uncomfortable.

The wristband is not as versatile as Royal Caribbean’s.

I have used it for doors and purchases but you cannot use in the casino slot machines as you can on RC.

It is quite noticeable that there is not as much personal as on the Divina.

If you wait until you board to try and book restaurant reservations, there might not be a lot left so you might want to discuss this with someone rather than leave a list of specific times only.

Thanks for this information. It's a great start. Do you have any pictures of the couch area and the balcony?

Sorry no but there are some on YouTube.

The couch is a bit bigger than a love seat but I cannot lie down on it.

The more irritating part though is that I cannot find a way to turn off the overhead canned lights over the bed when I only want them on over the couch.
