Brush With Greatness?

Did any of you ever meet up with a celebrity on Carnival cruises? Do they act like normal passengers?

lol. I am certain some have. I am curious why they wouldn't act "normal". I do not even know what that would mean...

Met Charlie Pride on CCL cruise (Miracal Jan 06), he was just like everyone else. He ate in the buffet, he walked the decks and enjoyed the Casino. Also on the same cruise was Roy Clark, but stayed in his cabin. Also saw Pam Tillis laying out on deck and Little Jimmy Dickens in the Casino. As you can guess it was a country cruise, which we didn't know about.

I have met many, many celebrities over the years, most of whom I wouldn't refer to as having 'greatness', merely celebrity. They're just regular folks, for the most part. Only two have I seen on a cruise - Morgan Freeman and wife on Pacific Princess, and Mel Gibson and family on the Paradise. They blended in with the rest of the passengers; it was good that most folks left them alone.

I think the OP was referring to David Letterman’s “Brush with Greatness” where a member of his studio audience shares a recollection of a chance encounter with a celebrity. I agree that most could not be considered great.

Closest I came was the flight home from West Palm we sat behind Chris Rock in first class. He slept just about the entire flight so I never got to meet him until after we got off.

Well, this didn't happen on a cruise but it was pretty exciting. I was standing in Ceasar's Palace in Vegas (I hate to tell this, it's going to show how old I am lol) and Elvis walked in with his entourage. It took a minute for it to register who it was but he walked right past me and nodded.

we had this thread a few months ago (I believe the Captain started it)...

I met and hung out with Jenna Jameson on the Destiny in June 2005. I don't know if I'd consider it a brush with greatness, but she is certainly well known!!! Most people on the cruise did not recognize her, so she was able to go out and about. Oh, and she is surprisingly normal and very nice. Here's a pic of her with my brother and my brother-in-law (sister's hubby)...

I'll be going on the Victory 8/20.

I'll sign an autograph if you want ($5), or you can take your picture with me ($20). Don't worry, I'll be acting like a normal passenger.

When I opened this thread I thought it was going to be about a close to death experience or something devine. I married my brush with greatness so I'd have to say I experience that everyday ;) I agree celebrities are just that ...famous people who have media attention. The truly great are those that do great things with no expectations or attention demanded as a result :)

Our cruise on the Valor in June 2005 had a group of contestants from the Bachelor and Bachelorette. They were all the losers. There were about 30 of them onboard. I never watch the shows so I wouldn't have a clue who they were. Some folks were excited about it.

Well this wasn't on Carnival, but when we went on our cruise in January so many people kept talking about seeing Roosie O'Donnell and talking with her. And she wasn't on The View at that time (back when she as "still" apart of the show" and they said she was on a cruise out of Puerto Rico. So maybe it was her, but I really wish I could've seen her.

I've seen other celebrities though....Jake Lloyd went to my school (Guy who played Anakin in Star Wars) and a few films with Arnold Schwarzenenegger in them. He was also in ER and like tons of other shows. Great guy. I've seen Tony Dungy, Oprah, Payton Manning, and so many bands/ singers. Really wish I could see them on a cruise ship though.:(

As far as Jenna Jameson, well she ain't that great. Ditta is so much better. :D

I rode on a plane with brittney spears (before she went crazy when she was real popular about 5 years back) looked right at her she smiled at me and i still didn't realize who it was hahaha! it wasn't until i got back to coach and heard people talking that i realized that i had just seen her

and she did get special treatment....they made us sit in the plane when we arrived at our destination for an extra like 20 minutes so brittney could get off the plane and make her getaway before any of us could catch up to her....i was very mad not because i couldn't meet her but because i had to sit on a stuffy plane for 20 minutes! that is my least favorite thing is waiting on the plane i.e waiting to get clearance on the run way waiting when they are still loading luggage and waiting to get off
