Upgrade to Owner Suite - yea right

Just received a call from Carnival for my upcoming cruise next week. This is just the 4 night Key West / Cozumel cruise on the Imagination. Anyway we booked it because we needed a getaway and it was priced very nice.

Anyway, they called today and went into this spiel about the Owners Suite being open and it has 42" TV's, wrap around balcony, jacuzzi tub, etc. There is no room number so they have to come and get you at the pier and escort you to your cabin, etc. Sounded great.

When she finally finished she said that the total cost would only be $350 per night. Which I know I have paid for lesser rooms on other ships. But, I only paid a smidge over that for the entire cruise (without taxes).

Just curious, has anyone ever taken them up on the offer? I might have at a different time but this was supposed to be an inexpensive getaway. I've done it before for other things, hotel suites, special tickets for concerts, etc. You know, something really special. But I couldn't justify 3 times the cost for the cruise. I would have probably went $300 more but that was even pushing it.

You know I will be looking for that suite once I get on the ship :)

enjoy,

Duane

We stayed in the Owner's Suite on the Ecstasy a couple of years back. I believe it is on the same place as on the Imagination. It was 1000 square feet. The balcony was not a wrap, but it was huge and it overlooked the pool. We were escorted on the ship. The cabin was located on the spa deck behind black glass doors. They call it PH-1 or 2 or S-1 or 2.

We ended up with this at the last minute as an upgrade from two cabins. It was awesome, however, I could not have paid $350 per night more for it. I have tried to book it since then, but can't pay the price they want for it. You were smart not to take it. It ruined us forever. We can no longer cruise cheap. It's now cat 12 or nothing. :-)

Current pricing is $400pp per night and $500pp per night for holiday sailings. The person on the phone did not know what they are talking about as the cabins are numbered but do not show up on the deck plans.

I called Carnival, just to be curious, to find out how much one would be on the Dream and if it was open. I was told the Dream does not have one. Is there a way you can find out what ships do? The Carnival rep seemed a little unsure of what the owners suite way. Again just curious.

They're only on the Fantasy-class vessels.

Here I thought I was special when I got the upsell call today. I had no problem saying no to this one. We got a great deal on our cruise and I could do a 7 day with a balcony for $1400! I would love to see it, but not pay for it.

Bunkie,

I did not know they even had them until you posted this today. I was kinda shocked to be honest. Anyway, curoisity has got me going now so I want to try and find out what ships they are on. Carnival reps don't seem to know much about them.

I have called about them many times and have often been told they don't have them. Not all reps know about them. Sometimes they can give me a price and sometimes not. Just call back and get another rep. I do believe they are on most Fantasy class ships.

I am not doubting the fact that you were quoted on something, but it wasn't on an owner's suite. You cannot just call Carnival, speak to a rep and get rates for these rooms. These rooms do not even show up in their inventory so it is impossible for you to have been quoted by a rep that answered when you called.

The reservation adminstration department controls these rooms and the post booking sales department sells them.

You are right. When I was quoted on the Owner's Suite, I had already been transfered so I maybe it wasn't a "rep". My point was to just keep calling and eventually you will get someone who will help you. We have cruised 7 times with Carnival and have two more booked this year. I am sorry if I used the incorrect terminology. When I have requested a rate, they have put me on hold and come back with one. As I wrote earlier, sometimes they say they don't even have an Owner's Suite. I know that isn't true.

If you have a direct number for the post booking sales department, please do tell. :-)

The owner's suites are not available to the agents that answer when you call carnival. Some reps don't know about them or know how to go about helping someone who is interested so it would be best for you to ask for reservations admin.

And there is no direct number for the post booking dept. They call out and leave you with an ext. So if you receive a call you better have that ext cause there's no number or direct ext for that particular dept.

I got this call once on a previous sailing as well. Mine was a 5 day so a bit more expensive and I will say the best money I've ever spent! The room is unreal :) Was over 1000 sqft and I felt like the king of the ship ! Traveled with the family so the seperate bedroom was a really nice feature. Only down side is when I asked Carnival for one the next time there was not one available. If you ever get the chance jump on this ! You will not be dissapointed !

I got a call yesterday with the offer of the Owner's Suite (PH 2) on our Fantasy cruise. They're only "opened up" or released a few days ahead of the cruise (in our case it was 9 days prior to sailing). Others are correct....they do not show up on deck plans, reps don't know about them or, if they do, they are unable to sell them. Only a "Stateroom Specialist" in post-booking sales can do it and only just before the cruise. They're only on some of the Fantasy class ships (nothing larger)....so other posters were correct in that aspect, as well.

We took it.....my DH, who isn't even able to go with us, was the first to say "DO IT, Don't Even think about it!" (he's a really great guy!) To us, it's a once-in-a-lifetime offer, and since we happened to have some money set back and could happen to afford it right now, we did it. There are 2 of these rooms on the ships that have them, and the other one on our cruise got sold yesterday before I made our decision....so I don't think bargaining works, I think beccause there are so few, they will usually find cruisers who want them.

I'm taking my 2 teenage daughters and am letting each of them bring their BFF, so the extra space will be appreciated! This cruise will be like no other! Funny thing is my daughters' friends have both never cruised.....they won't have a clue how fabulous this room is compared to the 6D oceanview that we would have had. :D And this is a big secret....we're not telling them until we are escorted to our room and they walk in and see it! What fun this is going to be!

Penny, will you adopt me?

You bet! :D Now that our youngest is entering that "magic" teenage phase (you know the phase---they won't talk to you, want to be with their friends more than you, act sullen when you insist on family time, and remind us of the teen girl on the Royal Caribbean commercial), my DH and I are missing the days of having little ones around, so adopting you might solve that problem! BTW: How old are you? :p

adamt: thanks for the youtube links. Actually, the Carnival "room specialist" that did our upsell told me about the videos, so we looked at them while we making our decision....they helped us decide to "seal the deal".

I love that commercial!!!!! It reminds me of our teenage daughter (15). I tell everyone about that commercial and they always look at me puzzled.. and say 'I have never seen that one before'......nice to know I'm not the only one who has seen this one!!!!! LOVE IT!!!

Wow. I am so going to find some way to sail in one of those huge suites one day. Wonder why none of the big ships have them?

Very good question!! I often ask the same thing. There will always be one or two cruisers on any given sailing which would pony up the $ to cruise in such a fashion. Just about every other line has a couple of "true" penthouse suites.

--------------------------

The cabins (on the Fantasy class ships which have them) are designated S1 and S2. The "S" is for "S"ports deck:

Heading to our favorite (pictured above) on Thursday!
