IwannaGo Now Posted November 8, 2009 #1 Share Posted November 8, 2009 I'm diabetic and use Levemir. Does anybody know the mini bar temperature on the Freedom ? I don't have to refrigerate the open pen, but have to keep the unopened medication cool..... between 36, and 46 degrees F. Thanks
salty dingo Posted November 8, 2009 #2 Share Posted November 8, 2009 Would it be better to ask if the ship's medical staff could keep your medication at the proper temperature? I don't know if I would trust a mini-bar.

Some are certainly adequate, but (on occasion) you'll have one that is no better than putting the medication in the safe. Mine on Carnival Splendor was worthless, and I actually had them check to determine if it was even plugged into the wall.
Colorado Kat Posted November 9, 2009 #4 Share Posted November 9, 2009 Our fridge wasn't very cold. I would check with the special needs dept.
AAAAmerican Posted November 9, 2009 #5 Share Posted November 9, 2009 Alert themn to your medical condition. They usually do well. Also bring your own small collaspable cooler and add ice. I'm diabetic and use Levemir. jessemon Posted November 9, 2009 #6 Share Posted November 9, 2009 Medication Storage Guests traveling with injectable medication(s) and need a container for disposal can contact the Medical Center or Housekeeping Department onboard. Some ships have staterooms equipped with mini-bars which are designed to maintain the temperature of beverages. They should not be used to store medications that have specific temperature requirements. Guests that need to store medicine that requires proper refrigeration can visit Guest Services where access to a refrigerator is available 24 hours a day. Ships equipped with mini-bars are: Carnival Conquest; Carnival Dream; Carnival Freedom; Carnival Glory; Carnival Legend; Carnival Liberty; Carnival Miracle; Carnival Pride; Carnival Spirit; Carnival Splendor and Carnival Valor. This is from Carnival....So just see guest services onboard and it will be taken care of....
kelz66 Posted November 9, 2009 #7 Share Posted November 9, 2009 The mini bar in the cabins ARE NOT refrigerators. they are coolers...they are not designed to be as cold as a normal refrigerator. They use less energy.
mom2tcdx2 Posted November 9, 2009 #8 Share Posted November 9, 2009 On the Pride our cabin steward said the same thing as above, they really act more like a cooler than a refrigerator. We had to keep a container with ice to keep our drinks cold as the "fridge" didn't do it.
Poomah Posted November 9, 2009 #9 Share Posted November 9, 2009 Not very cold at all
StillPooh Posted November 9, 2009 #10 Share Posted November 9, 2009 Our fridge on the Pride kept our drinks colder than 46, but you cold buy a cheap fridge thermometer to be sure. Then use the ones in guest services if it's not cool enough.
IwannaGo Now Posted November 9, 2009 Author #11 Share Posted November 9, 2009 Thank you all for your responses. StillPooh...I think I'll try your suggestion first. I'd rather keep my medication with me if possible! :)
