What do you want to know about Carnival Dream?

Welcome Aboard Maam!

Red is very nice and so varied in shade. One of my favorites ( favourites) as well..

Color (colour) is actually another World/USA standard set in NJ too.

It is done at The Pantone Company in Bergen County.

Your still able to Book for Sundays Cruise on the DREAM..and your aboard..so so much easier...;)

Your reporting now LIVE is so very well and what better source is there!;)

I just boarded the ship -- very cheerful against the gray NYC skies, bright lights, lots of red (which is one of my favorite colors, so I love it). I disembark ON Sunday so we'll just miss each other!

I was harried getting out of the cab and did not see the USS New York -- I will DEFINITELY look for it on Sunday, thank you very much for the tip. Will share photos!

Nice pic, LoraJ! Taken from...Weehawken? Fort Lee? Somewhere in that general vicinity, I bet (I grew up in WNY).

Just a note that in addition to covering the christening in Cruise Critic News and hanging out here with you all, I'll be tweeting from my Twitter account @melissapaloti with the hashtag #dream. Feel free to follow us there, too!

DH took that as we drove by the Weehawken Ferry!

Enjoy the ship!!!

I will check out the tweets. :)

Howdy, Robb!!

How's the back doin'???

We're gonna have a great time regardless of the weather...

All we need to do is get to New York today and we'll be fine.

We got a slightly earlier flight out and will be in Newark about 4:45, God willing...

:)

I heard that on the crazies thread. Hope you guys do land earlier. The back is doing just fine

I don't really have anything specific on the ship I wish to know. However we would be interested if you could find out from the Maitre'd Ken if he will still be on the ship for the Dec 19-26 sailing. We were in his dining room on the Splendor and would love to still see him on the Dream for our upcoming sailing.

The Carnival Dream definately looks to be a beautiful ship. Can't wait for December to get here.

I'll be glad to ask about Ken tomorrow...

It's 6:02 and we landed a bit less than 25 minutes ago so it's been a long day for these Texas kids...

Stitch is sayin' that it's WAY cold out, not really that bad, however.

We did see the Dream as we made our approach to Newark. She looks great out there! Can't wait to board her tomorrow!!

Hi, all!!

The journey didn't begin too smoothly... The flight out of San Antonio was delayed and ultimately canceled of a maintenance issue... I'll post a pic a bit later.

We got a flight to Houston where we sit awaiting a seoncd flight that will get us into Newark at about 6PM... FOO!!!

Regarding the question about 'fixed' seating for dining... There's three options available for dining... two traditional dining times and Your Time dining. Traditional seatings are in both the Crimson and Scarlet dining rooms at 6:00 PM and 8:15 PM. You have an assigned table and an assigned wait staff. Your Time dining is avaialbe for about 10% of the passenger population from 5:45 to 9:30 PM. I believe that option is available only in the Crimson. I'll check to be sure...

:)

Wish us luck!!!

:)

Well you are in luck because you know something has to go wrong. It's the airlines and not the DREAM:). Have a great time Mach. Say hi to Stitch for us.:D

We spent 16 days on that thing after coming from Italy and ultimately winding up in New York. It was actually our first cruise and we had a great time. Being that I don't really have any frame of reference, it's difficult to compare it to any other ship, but I can say that there were many good (and a few not-so-good) things about it. Just quickly...

The Kids-Camp was a Godsend. My daughter (who is 4) never wanted to leave, however we found that they normally are only open from 9AM-Noon, 2PM-5PM, and 7PM-10PM on days at sea, or 8AM-5PM and 7PM-10PM on days at port. Of course, we wanted her to spend some days at port with us, but when she wanted to stay at kids camp all day and we wanted a break, it got to be annoying when we had to pick her up and drop her off every couple of hours. Still, the staff was awesome and my girl loved the place.

I think they spared some expense when they constructed the ship in that it was incredibly noisy when crossing through semi-rough waters. There were loud banging-noises throughout different parts of the ship (heard by us and others that we spoke to) during the last night or two of the crossing when things got to be somewhat rough. They actually ran out of earplugs at one point and even gave some friends of ours a different room for the night. By the time we got on our way to New York, I had heard some people say that it had improved as the crew had been working on the issue, but I really don't know for certain.

Overall, the staff was very friendly and we really enjoyed a good number of them that I came to know by name. We left some good recommendations from them on our comment cards before we left- if you go to the bar out by Guest Services on Deck 3, make sure to get a drink from Stela and tip her well... she pours a good drink ;-)

Oh, the swimming pools. Two of them on Deck 10, 3' 6" deep and really cold, even during warm days at sea. Hardly anyone used them, but the spas/jacuzzis (not whirlpools, although I think there are one or two of those that you can pay for access to in the "SPA" section on Deck 12) were enjoyed frequently.

I and my daughter spent a lot of time playing at the Mini-Golf course on top of the ship. Good times... not a bad course considering the limited amount of room they had with which to place it.

Deck 5 is where most of the action is at. There is literally a bar about every 30 feet, so as long as you can stumble around (either due to the rocking of the ship or the alcohol content in your blood) there's usually another drink within your reach. There's the Casino: I'm not a gambler and didn't spend a dime there, so I'm not really a good person to review it; the Ocean Plaza: a laid-back lounge area with a bar, small stage, and a good sized dance floor; The Caliente: which is a Disco/Pop/Acid-Trip dance hall that hardly was used by most people while we were there... possibly because it seemed like the average age on the ship was somewhere near 65 or 70 and that just wasn't their thing (I'm 30, by the way); An art gallery that I forget the name of where they held auctions; A cool-looking piano-bar that I also rarely visited and forgot the name of... sorry; The "Song", which is a smaller lounge area that seemed to be geared specifically for Kareoke-type events; and the Burgandy Lounge: a larger lounge area, also with it's own bar and big dance floor in the stern of the ship.

What else can I add?

The food. The buffet was fairly good most of the time, although it can get to be extremely crowded on Deck 10 where they have it and I sometimes felt like I was pushing my way through a WalMart just to get a cup of coffee.

I never was able to visit the Pasta bar upstairs as it was apparently only open from noon until 2:15 on most days and there was a line out the back door on the deck below when I did try to go. Still, my mother was able to make it once and gave it "one thumb up".

The Sushi Bar, "Wasabi" (also on Deck 5, by the way), was also rarely open and didn't always serve sushi/sashimi when it was. Coming from California and a half-Japanese family I know I'm probably a hard critic and would give the Japanese cuisine there 2.5 out of 5 stars when they did actually serve it, but to anyone who has only had it a few times in their life they probably wouldn't know the difference.

That being said, the formal dining was by far the most excellent experience you could get when it came to a meal. The lobster was the best I've ever had, and most of the other courses were definately up there as well. Also, if you aren't sure about anything in the dessert menu, you can always play it safe and ORDER THE CHOCOLATE MELTING CAKE WITH A SCOOP OF VANILLA ICE CREAM- trust me on this one.

The "FunHubs" looked easy enough to use, and they keep an IT person on staff there to help people almost all day long. Even though I'm a Network Engineer for a large IT company and really could have used the access to check in on work, the price was a little to rich for my blood... if I remember correctly, it was $100 for 4 hours of access- maybe not excessive for some people though. I can say that I had to borrow a cable to link my phone to my laptop at one point at the IT person on staff there actually ran back down to his office to find one for me to borrow... very helpful staff, once again.

The entertainment... again, I'm probably a bit harsher than the usual critic here since I normally play 2 to 4 gigs a month myself in a band, so I'll skip this one. Frankly, it didn't always float my boat, but I know that me and the people in my age group weren't really the target audience this time... no problem.

What else? The room was nice. Comfortable beds and living quarters. Just the problem with the loud noises on rough waters that woke me up every 30 minutes or so- and drunk people walking down the hall and talking loudly at 2AM... please do be considerate!

I suppose that's all. We just got back to California a few hours ago and are dead-tired from travelling, and after being on the ship for so long my brain is still telling me that I had better keep my balance when I stand up... I also feel like the room on the ship was my real home after being there for almost 3 weeks, and that I'll be returning soon, which, I really would like to someday (even with the few negative comments I had).

I hope someone finds this review helpful. Sorry for the length of it.

Hi there

A friend and I are booked on Carnival Dream in April. We have inside cabins for sole occupancy (1A). Her cabin is on deck one and mine is on deck 11 . Obviously miles apart. Mine is near the spa area and atrium and under the water flume deck. Neither of us have ever cruised before and are interested in what to expect regarding accommodation. Can you enlighten us?

Regards

If I remember correctly, a member of our roll call has a 1A. If that's the case I'll be glad to get pictures of the cabin to either post here or I'll provide a link.

:)

Hey Mach, thanks for asking him. I am hoping he will still be on board and that we can get his dining room again.

Hope the weather cooperates for the use of your cove balcony, I also have two of them connecting on our December sailing. When I booked I wasn't really aware of the possibility of them being closed off as I had booked them quite a while back, but they look great from the photos I have seen so far. This will be the first balcony for my parents so I hope they like it too. When my sister booked she wound up with an 8D.
