What do you want to know about Carnival Dream?

Recommended Posts

We’re at sea and the Dream is living up to her name.

Our Cove Balcony is little different than any other standard non-suite cabin I’ve ever had with one exception – location. We’re on Deck 2, the Main Deck, slightly aft of midships, close enough to the water line to make your eyes open wide with amazement.

The Nor’easter we’ve been watching for days is upon us and showing us what this ship is made of. Standing on the balcony you only need to lower your gaze slightly to see the wind torment the sea pulling the tops off the waves and sending them aft into the blackness with abandon.

If you’re not too motion sensitive, if you’re a bit adventurous and you love the sea these are the cabins for you.

We’re back from dinner in the Scarlet Dining Room, first level, and the sea has been the star. Lots of crashing dishes and pounding at the aft end of the ship followed by ‘Oooooo’s from the assembled diners. We could measure the roll of the ship by the angle of the liquid in our drinks.

Dinner, by the way, was very good. Stitch and I both had the Escargot which was done perfectly. The Chateaubriand we had as a main was delicious. Stitch’s varied from mine slightly as I had a few flowerets of broccoli in the mix and she was forced to deal with peas, a white sauce with a touch of cranberry. Poor baby.

Our table waiter, June, was a gem. Jolly and efficient he attended us as though we were his only table but he was playing to a packed house. Wonderful job and many thanks, June.

After a pass through the shops that left us a few hundred dollar lighter we returned to our cabin to find the small table from our balcony parked in front of the exterior door. I feared I’d pull back the curtain to see a weather door battened down but low and behold no such thing had happened.

Looking toward the bow I was stunned by the sight of 20 foot sea being cleaved harshly by the prow. Amazing billows of spray flew into the night as we stood speechless by the power of the sea being overcome by a Dream.

:)

Thank you for the report Mach enjoy reading everything on the ship that I will be going on.

I can attest to it! At one point, I think I was holding onto the edge of the bed so I wouldn't roll off -- fun! It might have been even more fun if I hadn't had that last glass of wine with dinner.... :D

The ship is beautiful, agree with all of Mach's sentiments, though crowded for this two-night sailing. My room steward tells me that every cabin in his jurisdiction is full, many with occupied third and fourth berths. That, coupled with the frigid weather, has kept plenty of people indoors and some of the spaces feel cramped. I imagine it's a different environment on a week-long cruise in warmer climates.

:eek::eek::eek: WHAT!!!! OMG it's a hurricane sail!!

1/2 mile is correct -- a few laps around will earn you more dessert!

Floatie............can't wait to hug your neck in less than 3 weeks.........see ya at the Radisson.........

Sister and I aren't sure about Antigua.......she can be a little sea sickish.............never bothers me, but I guess we need to learn more about the excursion.....like is there a BR on board????? that's her biggest issue..........

I'll go over to the roll call to discuss..........

The Promenade looks interesting........I'm looking forward to laps around the exterior each morning..........I've heard that it's a 1/2 mile..........Hosts can you confirm this.............

But it's interesting that there are machines on either side of the walkway.......I've always enjoyed sitting in the booths adjacent to the casino then getting up to play..........it doesn't look like I'll be able to do that.

Hi there! I haven't sailed with Carnival as recently as Mach and some of the others but to me the pools like about the same size, maybe slightly larger. Because it's so chilly, there hasn't been live music on the lido today but there has been calypso in the casino. There's live music today in the Ocean Plaza (salsa) from 4-6:15 and 7-8:30, plus music at night of course in the piano bar (Sam's) and Caliente disco.

I'll see if I can find out for you whether Roberto is onboard!

Hi Mach, Melissa, and other Dreamers,

I hope you enjoy every minute aboard the Dream. I have a few quick questions (only if you have the time to find out the answers).

-Are the pools bigger than those on the Triumph-class ships? Are they still saltwater?

-Is there or will there be a reggae band? Have they cutback with the 4 or 5 person band or with the hours... (this is one thing we LOVE about cruising)? Any major cutbacks or additions?

-Do you know if there is a waiter named Roberto DeJesus onboard? He was our best waiter from all of our cruises, and we are hoping to see him when we cruise on the dream.

Thanks so much, and have a great time!

I haven't seen a loyalty desk so I don't think it's noboard yet. I'll ask around for you.

:) Thanks for the offer, Melissa, as I do have a question concerning the new Carnival Dream.

There's been some guessing if there would be the addition (after arriving in the States) of a Loyalty Desk offering the Future Carnival Vacation certificates.

Would greatly appreciate you checking while on the Promenade, or elsewhere, to verify if that has, indeed, happened. If not yet adding, perhaps CCL intends to do so after the ship arrives to its new home port at Canaveral next month.

Thanks, again, and Bon Voyage!!! :D

The internet here is a bit wonky today -- I typed up a reply to you and it disappeared! SO here goes again...

The hours for the Mongolian Wok and Pasta Bar are only 12-2:30, at least on this sailing. I think that's a real shame because both are really popular, and I think would be excellent snack/dinner options if extended. I'll stop up there tonight just in case the wokery does get put into play during the evening, but it does not seem like that's the case.

P.S. The library is a bit sad -- three or four cases not at all filled to capacity with books. There are a lot of games and puzzles, but if you like to read, BYOBook.

Is Carnival going to increase Hours of the Mongolian GRILL as well PASTA Stations etc?

Hi Melissa, posts and pages of posts are disappearing all over CC. I still can't find your reply to my question about the new program that links Carnival and St. Judes. hospital.

I've had similar problems on a hit and miss basis on the CC boards lately. I was hoping that the maintenance upgrade had fixed the problem and that the boards wouldn't keep chewing up some of our posts. :(

My very high priced minutes are rapidly expiring so I'll sing off for now.

I've got a ton of great images and a few videos to make everyone smile.

The list of questions is covered and I'll get to those as well.

See y'all tomorrow.

:)

With all this "work"....don't forget to have a GOOD TIME!!!!!!!!!

Mach, thanks so much for your first thoughts... and for continuing the poetic word pictures. Even without photo updates (which, of course, I can't wait to see too) you have a way of telling things that puts a person "right there". Great fun for those of us at home... the storm is not nearly as much fun from my house, but made more tollerable with such a good read! Thanks again!

Hi all,

Mach does have a way with words :)

Great evening here, no Mongolian Wok at dinner (I checked) -- I'll say again that it's a shame that and the Pasta Bar don't have extended hours.

jandj -- the St. Jude's program is going to involve a variety of fundraising efforts. In some cases, Carnival will pony up money (so, say, for one hour, the line will donate x dollars for each person to go down the waterslide) but there will also be activities onboard through which passengers can donate too. Still need to double check with someone about the On Deck for the Cure walks. The baseball bat that was used in the christening ceremony is going to be sold at a charity auction, the proceeds of which will go to St. Jude's.

Someone mentioned smoke and it generally was not an issue, although I did notice a lot of it tonight in the Piano Bar.

I wasn't able to sneak into one of the new dual-bathroom cabins (sorry!) but I checked out someone's cove balcony and I really, really like it! I love the idea of being so close to the sea, and I also think it offers more privacy. My balcony on Deck 9 looks right down onto the promenade (and they can look up at me as well).

If I haven't answered your question, don't worry -- I'll be back on tomorrow. The internet minutes are running low and disembarkation is drawing near :(

I love the partnership with St Jude's and and will make sure to seek out what those events are:) I also hope they continue On Deck!!

So sorry you guys have to get off so quick....it's awesome that you spent precious time helping us ride along with yas!!! We'll do that live too, and pay it forward!!!:)

Melissa,

WELCOME HOME

Good Sunday morning!

Yes shipboard Up+_Linking in not so well conditions is as Broadcast TV is now... I like your word WONKY...!;)

On the hours did you speak with the HotMan, Hotel Director Donato Becce yet? With CC having over One Half Million Active Cruisers... your word and eMail means most!

He as second in command, is one which can get something done not just loquacious palaver...

Tell him from me they REALLY WOKED UP on the Wok and PASTA Bar.. not even a mere 1/8th of a day open for all that then Wasted Space.. Not even enough tiome for a round of golf... What will, we/us, shareholders/professionals think now..?

As the hours are so similar now as having Shrimp Scampi without Shrimp... ;)

Now it is Sunday morning misty rain and FOG is due. Sun comes after.. as probably when you arrive and clear customs. 66F will be the high..so nice and temperate still..

Are you taking the eldest crossing ( Holland) ? Closest (Lincoln ) ?

May your journey be well and safe home today now.

Thanks again for all you do and have done so very well!

Wish you were with us all down to Florida!

Aww go ahead and book!;)

Hi, all. Here's the info on the new dual-bathroom cabins... FANTASTIC! We had one on our "inaugural" (haha) sailing of the Dream to the Grand Mediterranean Sept. 21, 2009 (an unbelievable trip - truly a dream!). The cabin was the best. Two bathrooms with 2 sinks, one shower and one bath/shoer combo but only one toilet. But it was terrific b/c my husband and I could shower at the same time, and have our own sinks for shaving and makeup times. The room is VERY roomy - 230 sq. ft. with KING bed. We did not want a balcony b/c we're don't spend time in the room other than sleeping and showering/changing. There's too much going on all over the ship to waste time on a balcony.

Smoking: There was never any smell of smoke on the ship other than in the Piano Bar, which was a bummer b/c it was a lot of fun there, and we hated the smoke. All smokers were outside on the decks.

Shows: Make sure you go to the big productions - they were incredible. Go at least 15-30 minutes early to get good seats. Best seats are on 3rd floor (main floor of show) about 10 rows back. Don't go too close - you need to see it from a distance.

Waiters were cute with their shows; food was great in the dining rooms (the buffets were "good", and the mongolian and pasta buffets were terrific - try the lasagna - awesome!)

Todd and Jamie were hysterical and very talented, and if you like Karaoke, see Mauna who leads it. She's terrific and it's loads of fun (tell her Phyllis & Chuck say hello - from the Grand Med inaugural)

And... make sure to go in the hot tubs on the side of the ship at the end of the day while you're facing your port. It's awesome to just relax with a drink and watch the beauty of it all.

Have a great time. We did and will always remember it. Now, we're going on the brand new OASIS of the Seas (Royal Caribbean). Our first time on RCL and it's the largest ship in the world! But we're sure you've been hearing all the hype on it.

Still love Carnival. It IS the FUN SHIP!!!

Bon Voyage!!!!!

Phyllis & Chuck

Living in Paradise!

(Naples, FL)

(oh, our count-down clock is wrong; there's a glitch - we're really sailing on the Oasis - 7 night Caribbean - in a few weeks!!!!!)
