Beverage Packages

We always tip over the 15% but from talking with others, many don't. I actually made out better without buying the package since one bartender we found by the pool made it well worth our while so the drinks were cheaper than we expected.

How did he manage that??

I'm assuming this was directed to me?

because he charged us for the drink of the day when I ordered something else. So I paid $4.50 for foo-foo drinks.... plus 15% auto plus my tip

Can anyone explain the drinks package. Celebritys site says for UK residents £350 per person for spirits for 10 night cruise. This seems a lot of money. Does it mean all Wines, cocktails with spirits in and gin and tonic?

Also does anyone know the current cost of decent bottle of wine and gin and tonic?

Thanks

Wine is not included in the spirits pkg.

We had several bottles of wine we found decent. Most were in the $35-$70 bottle range. My DH isn't thrilled about paying more for wine or I would have ordered others. They do have a build your own wine package that basically gives you 15% off any bottles you purchase that are over $75/bottle, but you must buy a minimum of 3 bottles that are over $75 to qualify for it.

fine, say I'm lying all you want. I was there and saw what I saw.

My info was also confirmed by the person at Guest relations. They had no different info than what the servers said.

Geeeeeeeeshhh!!! Defensive much?

Geeeeeeeeeeeeeshhhhhhh!! Is that really honest? and wouldn't that cheat the servers % of tips?

Hi, No the sprit package is for spirits at the bar/restaurants only - so you need to drink £32.50+ worth of G&T a day before you get your monies worth!. Hic.

Wine and cocktails are not included.

A bottle of wine starts from $30 and from memory a G&T is around $7.

well seriously. I'm not defensive, there just isn't any point trying to explain myself if you are going to tell me that my experience is wrong. It is my experience, there isn't a wrong or right to it. It was what it was. You telling me that I'm wrong when you weren't there is kind of pointless.

Also, I ordered a Chi-chi, which is a pina colada with vodka instead of rum. Well pina colada was the drink of the day. He ran me up for a drink of the day. I didn't realize you couldn't substitute until I ordered the same at the night club later. I still paid $7 drink regardless, so I guess no he didn't lose on tips, he made more for himself by charging me less.... he found me every single day regardless of where I was sitting on the pool deck so I guess he didn't feel I was shorting him.

It never fails to amaze me how people jump to conclusions...I never said anything about you being wrong nor did I ask you to explain yourself...in fact I said ' I would be extremely offended if I purchased the premium liquor package (a 10 day cruise makes it about $800.00) and the servers slowed up my drinks...ignored me...or what have you. I just don't see that because the website clearly states that the 15% service charge is included and I am sure that the sales for that cruise are credited to the beverage departments total sales for the week. It's not good customer service to snub someone because they pre-paid. I would also like to mention that crew members will say anything to get tips from passengers. I was in the restaurant business for years and I would hussle tips too, it's all in a days work.'

You have your view and I expressed my thoughts on the subject. That was it. My wording doesn't have a nasty undertone nor does it attack you in anyway.

Have a good day.

Just back from the summit....

First, the packages were not even advertised anywhere (except the usual soda and wine packages)

Second, I also asked around and spoke witha few of the bartenders and drink servers on teh ship. they stated that basically they don't get credit for the sales fromt eh packages even if they sell you the pkg (like the sommelier does for wine) and they don't get to count the drink total towards their sales goal for each shift, therefore they were very reluctant to sell the program and were very slow to refill those who had the pkgs. They also don't get a full tip from the sale either, so unless you tip an additional 15% they don't get anything....

We got the same story from more than 6 servers/bartenders. Thought the whole thing sounded pretty shady.

Worldsbestcandles,

How much extra did you tip the waiter? Did you, for example, give him $5 when you started drinking and then tip him again before you left for the day or what?

nope. I just rounded every drink up to $7. So when my drink plus tip was $6.50 I gave an extra $0.50, when the price of my drink kept going down, I still gave $7. Some days I had 1 drink, and others I h ad 3 or 4 just depended ont he itinerary.

I don't tip ahead of time and I didn't ask for anything special.

I was considering the beer package, but it seems a little expensive requiring you to drink a gang o beer to make it worthwhile......:(

Bob

We did the math...Lets say you like Sam Adams- that is $6.90 including the service charge. $6.90 x 5= $34.50 You would have to have @ least 5 beers a day to make it worth your cost. My husband isn't a big drinker but he feels 5 beers spaced out throughout the whole day is possible with a nap. :)

Only 5? They're not even challenging me. I'm insulted. :D

Cheers!

Really? $6.90 for one 12 ounce beer? Ouch!

I'm assuming the beverage packages would be honored in the casino bar? Any place they wouldn't be honored?

Regarding bottled water - I am not interested in their "starting at" $14.25 Cdn per person per day. This is for "fancy" water.

I am on a 2 week cruise starting Feb 28

Is there any impediments to bringing 2 cases of plain old bottled water on during boarding? I have no intention of hiding the cases of water.

What would people recommend?

Many thanks to all

ABoatNerd: People bring bottled water on the ship all the time-I have never heard of anyone having a problem.

One question about the beer package-is it only bottled beer?

The following is cut and pasted here from Celebrity website; the info is under the onboard experience, then under beverage packages. Hope it helps.

Before I ask this I know this is super tacky so please don't jump down my throat about it but.... Has anyone purchased just one beverage package (whether it be beer, liquor, soda) and shared it with your spouse? I know it says you can only get one beverage at a time using your sticker - how strict are they with this? What stops my husband from going and getting a beer, bringing it to me, and going back to get himself one?

Ok we are just off the Equinox and many of us had packages. The guys with the beer packages did fine but I had the frozen drinks one and just didn't come out on top so I will be back to purchasing individual drinks again on the next cruise. Ok it may have been due to the lousey weather we had and the fact that I was simply to busy herding my sheep to actuially get to the bar. Oh and I didn't even make it to the Micheals club even though we are elite. The cruise line earned money on me this time.

Didn't you just answer the question, it being super tacky is what should stop him?

Nothing stops him from doing that, I suppose, but the bartender will know he just got one a minute ago. Do you really want to spend your vacation running from bar to bar to try to outdo the system? But if you wouldn't feel awkward doing that I guess it can be (and surely will be) done.

Too much work. Stick to smuggling; its easier to do....:p

I guess it is a crap shoot. I am faily certain that we are going to get the beer package (for dh) and the frozen drink package (for me.) However you have got me thinking. If illness strikes one of us, it may be a real $ loss (14 night cruise). But the ease of it is really applealing to me. I was also going to bring some wine on board to have at dinner. Hate adding that Corkage fee to my beverage costs though.

For the experienced cruisers, what are your thoughts on the water packages. considering we plan on being on shore for 8 days, is there no alternative to getting water on the ship?

The alternative is drinking the ship's tap water. There is nothing wrong with it at all. I'm picky about the taste of water; I won't drink my tap water at home, but the ship's is fine.
