Beverage Packages

If you pre-purchase this on the website before you sail, how do you get the card? ie, if I want to have a drink at the pool 10 minutes after we get onboard, is that going to be a problem?

The information is printed on your sea pass - the same card used as your room key and ship identification card. It is also in the ship's computer system so when they ring the drink on your account it will show that you have the package and will be enterred as a no additional charge transaction.

if you pre-purchase it will be pre-printed on the sea pass card and if you purchase it on board they will immediately apply a sticker to your card and update your account information on the computer.

Here's what mine looked like last time. You can see where it indicates Pkge Type is PMNA (Premium Non-Alcoholic)

OK, I'm confused. You said that they don't get a full tip from the sale. How much of a tip do they get?

This really bothers me. Someone is not telling the truth. Either Celebrity or the bar tenders.

Plus, the service I received on our last cruise did not indicate that they were not receiving tips. I will be very embarassed to think that these people who gave me such great service did not get compensated for it. I did give a tip to a couple at the end of the cruise, but I would have given more had I known.

Does anyone know for a fact if what was stated above is true?

"therefore they were very slow to refill those who had the pkgs. "

I can tell you that this was not my experience. I had 14 days with the package and the service that I received from everyone was excellent. I suspect that the servers receive a portion of the 15% that is charged for the package with each drink, but I have no idea how they would figure it out except they do scan and track each drink. I did give a extra tip the servers that we used a lot at the end of each cruise, but I found excellent service without it.

Do I have to purchase a package for each of us or can the two of us use one package? We drink scotch, drumbuie and canadian club mostly. We also drink premium teas & coffee. The wife and I are booked on the Equinox sailing to Panama on 12 December 2011. We will be in Aqua class. Any input would be helpful. Thanks.

Sharing Beverage Packages is not allowed. Each of you would have to purchase the appropriate package.

Wait a day before purchasing. (you don't have to buy the 1st day anyway). Evaluate whether it will be worth the price based on how much you drink the 1st day. Factor in being off the ship during port days. One of you can buy a package and the other can buy drinks on a per beverage basis. If one of you gets a package you both don't have to purchase one, but sharing a package is expressly prohibited.

you can purchase a package at any point on the cruise for the number of days remaining. I know this as we did it on the silhouette in August. we purchased the premium package for my son for the last 4 days- 2 of which were sea days. I believe it was $54 x 4 days plus gratuity. This can be done at any bar on the ship.

Its a pity you cant buy them for just certain days, like my cruise next year has 2 sea days, 5 port days back to back, then 2 more sea days... I think it would be useful for the sea days but not sure about the 5 port days... but I guess the cruiseline needs to make some money too!

I am a bit confused about the Frozen drinks package as this is the first I've heard of it. My DH and I got the drinks package on our MSC cruise last spring and it was fantastic value and very convenient so we were planning on getting the Classic package for our upcoming Celebrity cruise.

But does the fact that there is a special 'Frozen' package mean that we can't get drinks like frozen daiquiris or frozen margaritas with our Classic package?

I don't believe that there is a Frozen Drinks package on Celebrity. Perhaps someone has confused this with another line.

In January of 2010 I had a frozen drink package. They no longer have that. They changed the packages for the better.

We are just back from the Eclipse Eastern Med trip and both of us had the Premium Alcohol package. We routinely each had a double shot latte (or two) and a freshly-squeezed OJ for breakfast even when we were going off the ship, which was most days. We had water - every time we went past a bar, we picked up a small bottle of Evian each and then we also got a large bottle of Evian the day we boarded to use in the room and replaced it as needed. We asked our room steward to empty the fridge (which he did). We got a couple beers to keep in the fridge.

One day we got back too late for dinner, so while I ordered our meal (from the MDR menu), my DH went and got a glass of wine for dinner then went and got another, all while we waited for our dinner to be delivered. No problem with bringing back the glasses of wine - except in the Tastings room where they will let you take out standard glasses, but not the good ones. No big deal. We had a drink before dinner most nights, and a bottomless wine glass with dinner as well as a big bottle of Pellegrino. We had espresso after dinner and sometimes an after dinner drink. Our sommelier was able to give us one wine with our appetizers and a different one with our entrees. And we didn't have to both have red or white, but could mix it up to match what we were each choosing to eat.

On port days we always had 2 bottles of water each. On sea days we had beer or wine with lunch and perrier. In the casino, we could get a water or a drink. At the pool, we had water and sometimes a frozen drink.

I didn't keep track of the exact value but it did promote harmony - we didn't have to decide if we could afford that bottle of water or that glass of OJ, or the frozen drink, but could simply enjoy it. I believe we drank considerably more nonalcoholic beverages than we do without the package, and probably about the same amount of alcoholic beverages. Having the package just makes life easier - and isn't that what vacation is all about? Ease. Yes it is expensive, but we buy one and then a few months later buy the next one so we spread the expense over time.

And we do tip our drink servers $1 extra when they are nice - which is most of the time. It is just our thank you and I have no clue if we get better service because generally service on X is great.
