cruisingwith6 Posted February 26, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 26, 2010 We used to be able to get a Shirley Temple for the kids with their soda cards until out last cruise on the Freedom where it was not available. Does anyone know if this is still the case?
cb at sea Posted February 26, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 26, 2010 Nope---only sodas, like coke!
marci22 Posted February 26, 2010 #3 Share Posted February 26, 2010 We could not get them on Freedom either.
SingingPixie Posted February 26, 2010 #4 Share Posted February 26, 2010 We ordered shirley temples in the Pyramid Lounge on Independence last week (we were alcoholed out and it was late, but wanted some sugar to perk us up so we could stay awake through the late-night comedy show) and were asked for our soda cards (which we didn't have, because that was the only soda we drank all week). It must be another thing that varies by ship/bartender.
galavant3 Posted February 26, 2010 #5 Share Posted February 26, 2010 My kids have ordered Shirley Temples and Roy Rogers using the soda card with no problem. Maybe it depends on the bartender. They have ordered them in the dining room as well.
Puffinater Posted February 26, 2010 #6 Share Posted February 26, 2010 Although it was back in June on the Serenade our granddaughters ordered them every night at dinner.
subtchr Posted February 26, 2010 #7 Share Posted February 26, 2010 Shirley Temples were my DD's drink of choise for both our cruises, for which she always used her soda card with no problem. Bars, dining room, didn't matter.

marci22 Posted February 26, 2010 #9 Share Posted February 26, 2010 I think it's coke and grenadine.
Puffinater Posted February 26, 2010 #10 Share Posted February 26, 2010 Here is the recipe for a Roy Rodgers Ingredients: 6-8 oz cola 1/4 oz grenadine maraschino cherry for garnish
olemissreb Posted February 26, 2010 #11 Share Posted February 26, 2010 Interestingly enough, my kids (both boys) like Shirley Temples. They just call it "Cherry Sprite"! :)
emen822 Posted February 26, 2010 #12 Share Posted February 26, 2010 That stinks.. My girls always got them with dinner (our last cruise was April on the Mariner). Is this a new change fleetwide?
jayjo Posted February 26, 2010 #13 Share Posted February 26, 2010 Last August on the Monarch, my son ordered them using his soda card.
cruisingwith6 Posted February 26, 2010 Author #14 Share Posted February 26, 2010 Thanks everyone...sounds like it is another one of those "it depends" situations. We ordered them on the Freedom in March and then we went back on the Freedom in July they said no more Shirley Temples or Roy Rogers with the soda cards. I think we asked a few different places with no luck that week. That was our kids drink of choice as well so we are debating not getting the soda cards. When we went to the evening show they would order one when we ordered our drinks.
JTexcruise Posted February 26, 2010 #15 Share Posted February 26, 2010 Hi......new here. Last cruise was back on Dawn Princess (Alaska) summer 2000. I realize a lot has changed in cruising since then (next cruise for me is on Voyager in April) but I find this post troubling. Why would any cruise line refuse to give you a little cherry and splash of grenadine in your soda when you already paid for the soda card??? This is penny wise and pound foolish if you ask me. Is RCCL and all the cruise lines overly tight like this now??? YIKES!
derrick22 Posted February 26, 2010 #16 Share Posted February 26, 2010 Is it made the same way - sprite and grenadine? When I was growing up, many moons ago, a Shirley Temple was ginger ale, grenadine and lots of cherries. :D There was no sprite then. Denise

debates2 Posted February 27, 2010 #18 Share Posted February 27, 2010 We just returned on the Carnival Sensation and my 12 year old son was able to order them on his soda package, without additional charge. We're gold status, so I don't know if that makes any difference or not.

Is RCCL and all the cruise lines overly tight like this now??? YIKES! I think so too. On Freedom, we had a few problems our first night at dinner, then they wouldn't make my youngest a Shirley Temple, so I asked for a maraschino cherry in his soda. They had to ask the headwaiter first, and that night, he did not get one. I thought it was just ridiculous.
tobecool Posted February 27, 2010 #20 Share Posted February 27, 2010 is it available in AOS? our kids like it and we are planning to buy the soda card for it. but if there's no more available, then ....

marci22 Posted February 27, 2010 #22 Share Posted February 27, 2010 The policy must vary from ship to ship. Freedom must have crabby bartenders.
tobecool Posted February 27, 2010 #23 Share Posted February 27, 2010 can we ask by calling them before sailing or we can only find it out when we are onboard?
JTexcruise Posted February 27, 2010 #24 Share Posted February 27, 2010 Glad to hear at least most of the ships are reasonable about this. I would hate to get caught and put in the "naughty room" for smuggling cherries and grenadine syrup LOL!
