Not do dining room?

How can you go on a cruise and not do the dining room....I mean you can but why would you not ...for me getting (well not dressed up) but dressed up ( not talking about formal night) and having a formal dinner is part of the reason why i cruise....I enjoy the nice food and the great company as well as meeting new people...and the Dinning experience is part of that...My Cruise next month i will not be doing Elegant night because we don't want to pack formal wear...but we will be cruise casual every other night.....I also think it will help your family Socialise and meet People on the Ship with you

Maybe you'll change your mind after 20+ cruises. Then again maybe you won't. Everybody is different.:)

Main dining room? Meh. I really have no desire to sit in a dining room for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. That's time I could be doing other things. Last cruise we ate there one night. Will most likely do the same in Sept.

On the Sensation in August (Your time Dining) we were in and out in less than hour all four nights. We didn't eat more than one of anything except we split an extra dessert one night.

On our January Fantasy we were at the late seating and it was three different groups traveling together so it took longer and the server kept bringing out food - two different entrees (for example if you couldn't decide and asked his opinion - then you selected the flat iron steak, he'd still bring you a lobster tail - or the pasta and the potpie) - so those meals took about 1.5 hours. But we took our time.

My 14 year old loves the MDR - he fell in love at 9 on his first cruise. They bring you whatever you want, if it's a girl, they fawn over you.

I just did the 4 night Paradise cruise and used the MDR the entire time,,which is all I ever do. May I recommend anytime dining? I tried it for the first time. You will be able to get a table for just for you and the kids and they seem to feed you quicker because dinner doesn't HAVE to stretch to the next feeding time. They seem quicker, I suppose, because they know they could need your table for another set of diners coming in. One night we were in a hurry and our waiter knew,,we were in and out in 45 minutes. If you don't like it you can always buffett it,,so at least sign up for it.

ETA: two out of the 4 dinners were were sitting at a table right next to familys. The kids were very well behaved and really seemed to like the MDR. I am no good at ages but I would guess they were in the 9-10ish range.

In my opinion, taking the kids to the Main Dining Room would be a wonderful opportunity for them to "expand their culinary tastes". They'd be able to "try" so many things that they might not have had before...and they don't have to finish them if they don't like them. At least, try it a few times. : )

I fully agree... my teenage sons have discovered several things they love and would have never tried in other circumstances.

I agree! My son was 10 on our first cruise. He is a very picky eater. His favorite part of the cruise was going to the main dining room and trying things he had never tried before. He ended up eating EVERYTHING that he ordered all 5 nights. The only thing that he only ate half of was a mushroom soup that he didn't care much for but he did eat most of it! I was shocked that he tried so many different things including escargot. LOL The waiter was awesome and always brought him and my daughter a "special" dessert.

If you're going to the dining room for dinner dress like you would if you were going to a nice steakhouse, not Denny's. PLEASE.

Long shorts (not cut-offs or gym shorts) ARE allowed in the dining room except for Elegant Night. Sorry but it's approved by CCL even if you don't like it.

On our recent cruise we saw a lot of pax in long shorts & tops.
