Hotels in Amsterdam

If you go to the RIVER CRUISING board, you will get more ideas that fit your style. Here, most want only to be near the ocean cruise ship pier.

Also go the Europe Ports of call board here.

Also you will find really great info if you go to tripadvisor.com and their FORUMS board. After a couple clicks you'll get right to the AMS board with 5 residents and other experts of AMS who will offer all kinds of suggestions. I'm finding out so much good info pre visit.

We will be there in Sept., and are looking at Radison Blu, because it is within a couple blocks of Dam Square on the canal ring. It is a modern hotel, but built using old buildings. Some of the neater places where we want to stay (Old Central) are in the $300+ range, and I want to keep it at $250 beacuse we'll be there 3 nights.

Any suggestions on hotels in Amsterdam before our cruise? We like the charm of European type hotels. We would love to be on the canal close to everything?

we are arriving in amsterdam a week before our cruise leaves for the Baltic and have booked the Hotel Etherea. Its a European sytle hotel locally owned and managed. Reasonable by Amsterdam standards. it is in the central part of Amsterdam in a section known as nine little streets. within easy walking distance of many sites.

if you want more information about Amsterdam head over to the British Isles/Western Europe board since technically Amsterdam is Western Europe. there are a couple of posters there who are very familiar with Amsterdam and offer excellent advice.

We were in Amsterdam in 2008 after a transatlantic cruise and a lot of our fellow CC'rs stayed at the Moevenpick Hotel which is right there at the port. We did not as we chose to stay closer to Schipol Airport and take the train into town. These fellow CC'rs bid on Priceline.com and all got that hotel or the Renaissance (which was under refurb at the time). The ones who stayed at the Moevenpick LOVED the hotel and got it at a great price via Priceline. They were able to just walk into downtown. If we ever get to Amsterdam again, that is where we will be staying. They said it was a European style hotel. You can check on TripAdvisor for traveler's reviews of the various hotels.

go to Tripadvisor, and do the research. That cheap hotel where you think you are getting a great bargain might not be so great. Read the review.

Older hotels in Amsterdam have a style of their own. Many are on the canals. we stayed at the Ambassade, and loved it, but there are many choices.

I've stayed in the Hotel Pulitizer several times over the years and love it. It is on a canal just down the street from the Anne Frank House. It is a Starwood property. It is very expensive - but check for specials on Starwood's website. You will have a great time regardless of where you stay.

We stayed at the Hotel Pulitzer last year. It was very nice. We booked using Hotwire and got for a really good price.
