What I dont understand is (and this is an assumption) most if not all of you are adults.

1. There are rules/laws in place.

From there you have a few options.

1. Follow the rules like a responsible adult.
2. Dont follow the rules and pay whatever consequences there are like an adult.
3. Whine and complain on a forum like a spoiled little brat.
4. Dont cruise.

For the most part im looking forward to my first cruise. However having the chance to spend it with some of the people I read about here is just scary.

Grow up, follow the rules. If you dont like the rules intelligently approach the cruise providers and have them changed or dont cruise.

How hard is that? Better yet just buy a bunch of booze get a rubber floatie fill your tub up (at home) and have a party.

[quote name='Russell in MD']Smuggling beer isnt worth the trouble IMHO. Too bulky for the cost savings.

Liquor for me is purely for consumption in-cabin. Too much trouble going back and forth to the cabin to refresh. I view my cabin the same as I would any type of hotel room.

A ship has a captive audiance you have no choice but to buy on board if you choose to consume, unlike on land where you can vote with your feet where there is competition.

If you go by what was discussed on the CNBC show where passengers needed to spend like $7.50 per day for them to make money I think its safe to say even avid smuggleres manage to meet this threshold.

The argument that smugglers somehow dont pull their own weight when it comes to on board spending I think is completely invalid.

Ive always managed to contribute my share pretty well over the years.

That is all they need someone to spend a day on alcohol or anything on board?

I like the floaty filled with booze idea Aknot..

Yeah that's what I said:rolleyes: Little paranoid donchathink:confused::rolleyes:

Carnival banks their profit on alcohol and casino and excursions......it's not a secret;)

I have to agree with that statement. I remember watching a special on cnn or msnbc where they went on a weeks cruise and followed the inner workings of the cruise ship. The food and beverage manager stated that a weeks cruise is only profitable when each passenger spends $775. So if we begin with that number, assume some don't spend anything while some spend much more, I would assume booze and casino bring in the most revenue due to mark up etc.

One server told me that some cruises consume all alcohol, some cruises drink more beer and some don't drink anything. (on one of my cruises they ran out of bud light)

I smuggle but not to excess. I would love to see the prices of drinks/beer come down. I still think folks will continue to smuggle so long prices remain high. Just sayin' :)

Wait, one poster said that they seen the same special... He said it was $7.75 not $775.. Although, I would assume it is $775 and not $7.75 .. That makes no sense..

Is there a moderator that can validate my IP/email? Was this person a "problem"?

Yup, that special was on not too long ago. I distinctly remember 775. Blew me out of the water with that number. Please keep in mind that's not all booze, it's the total amount each passenger has to spend in order for the cruise to turn a profit.

I think this show was on a NCL ship. :)

Actually if it was the NCL program......it was about bringing their booze revenue up by the last night of the cruise in order to make a profit.....

More likely for a drinker to spend that then a non drinker. So they want ALL pasengers to spend that? Not just the smugglers, or non-smugglers, or non drinkers.. Then how come everyone on this board that downs smugglers not fess up to their own share of what they should spend on a cruise. I constantly see people posting that because of the smugglers, they will have to pay higher fares and more for alcohol and such. But based on that CNBC speacial, they want each person to spend that amount? I am going for the least stressful thing to me which is not to smuggle, don't want to worry about it, but I can tell ya I won't be spending $1500 on board.. I will just drink less if I have to.. Whatever..

They are looking at an average.....not specifically each person.....

Smuggling has been going on since waaay back......and if anything Carnival has lowered their prices since I started cruising......people just like to bitch.......

Off the Liberty out of POM last week, they were cracking down pretty well. Saw them checking all the wine, making sure there was only a bottle per person. Also talked to several people during the cruise who had their checked alcohol taken, some in bottles and some in Runners.........

Why do you think they push only Carnival excursions? Why are they playing all these Bingo games? Why do they push the sale items each day in the shops? It's all part of the bottom line. The above was just an example. but it should give us all an idea about expenses and profit. Smugglers should not be blamed if prices go up. EVERYONE needs to spend to keep prices DOWN. Just sayin' :)

Actually, it's not that far fetched. I was on a cruise in 1991 where our whole floor went dark because of an electrical overload. The origin of the overload? The passenger cabins. We received letters in our cabins the following morning banning everybody from using certain electrical items in their cabins, including hair dryers.

Ask an airline pilot or a cruise ship's captain if an overloaded electrical system is something to be taken lightly or something that is "far fetched"

Sounds like they need to ugrade the electrical during drydock if they're incapable of providing the power needed for their guests with reasonable power needs.
