Just off the Destiny 6/05/10

At 6am I up and ready to head to the Atlanta airport. My flight departed Atlanta@ 8:35am. To my suprise Airtran was actually on time for something for once. As I sat with DM some kids headed for their vacation never sat still or quiet.:eek: P5300036.jpg

I was soo excited when I saw the Whale tail I started to squeal... Once we were checked in and aboard the Destiny I kinda drew a couple of opinions. 1. Destiny is dated very dated! 2. The elevators were super slow.. 3. The cabins were actually tiny.

While finally reaching the cabin @ 1:30 on the nose the staff was standing in front of the hallways not allowing you to enter to drop off any bags. The cabin was 9188 in front of the Laundry room. Our room steward was the best anything that we needed he made sure that it was supplied. The dreaded smell was there!!!! It reaked... all over the ship I noticed the smell.

Very interested to read the rest of your review. Not sure what to make of the Destiny--seems to be a ship people either love or hate.
As far as the ship itself It needs some work.. There are balconies with the old TV's and the old Safes. I think that the Itinerary is fine but Upgrade...

I loved the Destiny we were on her this past Dec. I would sail on her again in a min.

A friend from work just set sail on the Destiny this afternoon. he was a

first time cruiser, had lots of questions and was kind of nervous. I know by

this time on my first cruise, I was already hooked.:D

We had one of those old tv's with 2 inches of dust under it. I was surprised that our safe worked on a code. I had read on here about safes needing a credit card, etc. I guess we got lucky on the safe. :rolleyes: Was your bathroom in pieces? Ours had what it looked like a rubber patch at the end of the shower divider. I loved the itinerary but regret not having gone on RCI Grandeur. :mad:

We are on her in 18 days, from my research their is no better ship out of port of Miami or Fort Lauderdale on short cruises, IE 3 to 5 days, this summer.

 

OPTIONS: All are old ships.

 

 

Carnival Destiny , (Largest of the list, has the most balconies by far.)

 

RCL Majesty of the Seas (Was on it last year, not impressed)

 

RCL Grandeur of the Seas (One quick look an you can see it's outdated)

 

Carnival Imagination (similar to Fascination that I was on 2007) GREAT TIME.

 

NCL SKY ( This is a beautiful ship)

I too have been on Majesty...first cruise so I had nothing to compare it with...second cruise was Navigator...much nice. As for Sky, I have a friend who worked on it, and her family are CCL regulars...she wanted me to cruise on it but after hearing her family's complaints about the ship and service I told her chances were low...lol...she no longer on that ship or I might have given it a try. For now, I'm giving Destiny a try!

Waiting for more of the review (and about the reeking?? Where was it? when? )!!!

When we got off the elevators we smelled the odor.. Bad Perm is a fitting description.. From the 1st day I noticed. But the Martini's kinda downplayed it (lol):D

Yeah the old TV was funny at first. The safe did work on a 4 digit code. It reminded me of a microwave (lol) here is a picture of the shower.

Breakfast in the MD was the better choice. The Lido deck was a jungle. I was bummed to find out that there was no longer the gourmet coffee cards available. But winged it. The ships Casino was a busy as ever. I gave to the slots and took some from the tables. Then gave more back to the slots and the tables. But at night time the action picked up Good..

I enjoyed watching the older people on the cruise feed the quarter monster( The one that drops and pushes the quarters)..

This also was Elegant night..

Did you like having a cabin on the Lido deck? I have one booked for Nov.1 and this will be our first Lido deck cabin. I spend a lot of time at the pool so thought it would be convenient.

Yes I had 9188 it was directly infront of the Laundry room and could get sort of noisy.. But it was very convienient..across from the elevators.
