Curious about the rates. Is it a better price if I book while I'm on the ship? Taking our first cruise next weekend and anticipating a new addiction to crusing! I keep seeing posts about booking the next trip while on the cruise. Should I do it then or wait?

Sign up for the Crown & Anchor Society on the first day of your cruise. See if you can get the Loyalty Ambassador to expedite this and get you a membership number.

 

Then, when you book your next cruise while on this first cruise, you will be entitled to an OBC (on board credit) for that next cruise. The amount depends on the length of the cruise that you book.

To the OP: next to getting an onboard credit to spend, the reduced deposit is a very good reason to book on board. Also, you get a better cabin selection if the cruise is 6 or more months away.

 

The obc can be cashed out in the casino for a 3% fee, or the last day of the cruise you can go to the Customer Relations desk and cash it out there.

 

This, of course, is if you don't spend it all on the cruise! :D

 

I prefer to book an actual cruise rather than get a Next Cruise certificate. The deposit for an NC is non-refundable, while the deposit on an actual cruise is refundable. For $100 per person and an obc, it's just a great way to get more bang for your cruising buck!

Emilygrace, they changed that rule effective June 1st. You now MUST be a Crown and Anchor member to make a future booking on a cruise.

We prepaid $200 toward a future cruise while aboard the Legend of the Seas last Nov. It actually worked in our favor because everyone else needed to plunk down a $900 for our next cruise which will be a transatlantic next year and we were able to confirm our reservation with only that $200 we paid. It would have been hard to come up with $900 and we didn't want to miss out on the great deal.

Me too I booked the Mariner around the Horn in May while on the Summit. $200 downpayment and $300 OBC. If I had known that they were going to change that, I would have booked another 3 cruises.

Nope. You get the cruise credits by sailing on a Royal Caribbean cruise, regardless of how you booked that cruise.

 

And if you are talking about booking on board the ship and getting OBC for your next cruise, you can simply tell the Loyalty Ambassador who is helping you to book that you want the cruise transferred to XYZ Travel Agency.

The deposit is $100 per person. Booking on a cruise is a win-win IMO. However, remember the "Next Cruise" certificates have a non-refundable deposit. You can always transfer your booked cruise to another cruise and keep all the bennies and the deposit intact.

If you use a Next Cruise cert and cancel you lose YOUR DEPOSIT, but can re-use the cert. Transferring a cruise keeps your deposit.

 

In the future the best thing to do is book an actual cruise while on another cruise, get the obc, and then transfer the booking later on if you choose. If you cancel in this situation, you get your deposit money back.
