Soda card for one person

Thanks!

I've just had a search on the princess website and i can't find any mention of the soda deal. Perhaps they don't like to advertise it too much as they stand to make more money by selling soft drinks as and when?

Of course, if I'm just being blind and someone knows of a link, that'd be great!

Oh, they adverstise it enough on the ship! No worries! As soon as you board there is a table selling the stickers. They are all over the place on the first day.

DH gets a soda sticker. I don't. I prefer to drink ice tea with my meals but DH doens't. I bring on some Diet Coke for in the room but usually drink ice tea while dining or laying by the pool if I don't want a frozen drink. I buy the coffee card and he doesn't. He doesn't like lattes and such. I even get a frozen coffee and bring it out by the pool at times.

You have to drink at least 3 cokes a day to make the coke card worth the money. Why in the world would someone drink 3+ cokes a day?! That's 500+ calories a day just for cola! If you need to caffiene, the coffee and tea is no extra charge. Make the extra calories worth it, save the 30 bucks and have an extra dessert.

They have a new concept onboard called "Diet Coke" ... no calories!!!

Worked and managed restaurants. Cost of soda is about 3 cents a serving. I don't drink a lot of sodas, but the one time I bought a soda sticker for my wife and myself, our dining room server asked me why I like to throw away money. Princess knows and their charge for the sticker shows it. Before you light up your flame thrower, I try to stick with water with lemon so I have not "robbed" Princess. Just another facet on the stone...

I'd really like to know the what the difference in price is between a glass of soda vs a glass of lemonade or even a big glass of their OJ which can be stored in the frig until needed. The difference has got to be minuscule at most.

So drink the lemonade and orange juice and buy your soda in port and bring it back to the ship. It will cost you less in the long run.

Your rationalization is like saying that if you pay for one person to eat at a Hometown Buffet, or similar restaraunt bringing in other family members without paying for them and then having them eat for free because the excess food has to be thrown out at the end of the day anyway. It's only a matter of degree, both are wrong.

The OJ would cost more. The lemonade about even. The nasty tea and coffee syrup..less....Princess is well managed as to cost. If the soda card profits get me a cheaper aft balcony..I am good with that.....It really is all relative. You would be hard pressed to figure all the ins and outs to their bottom line...I love them just as they are .. :)

I'm just thinking of getting a ultimate kids package for one person and a plain soda card for the other, as I don't think either of us will make full use of the UKP! :D

Sounds like your question isn't really about soda - both the soda card and the UKP card get you soda. The UKP also gets you mocktails, hot chocolate, etc. But it still would be wrong for both of you to utilize the UKP.

Then really the card can be shared - no???

Is this a case of where it is a rule, but it isn't really enforced?

I really don't drink soda - so i'm not one of those that are trying to save a few bucks.

Anyway - I see people on this thread and others talking bout this. Soda brings in probably more than 1.5M per year in profit to the ship (per ship). Why wouldn't they charge for it. I personally think its a ripoff - they wanna charge - i think they should charge per cabin not per person. Again i dont drink soda so i couldnt care less

That's probably the only way it could be controlled but it would antagonize to many soda drinkers if their spouse didn't care for it. Either that or build the price of unlimited soda into the base price of the cruise whether you drink it or not.

I discovered the UKP on our last cruise. It was nice to have a foo foo kids drink in the evening. (I am the wife of a recovering alcoholic, so I do want to support him) It also lets me appear to have a drink without having to explain to waiters at dinner and draw attention to being the only non drinkers at the table.

I agree that soda is basically a huge money maker...but think also how much you pay for a soda at McD's, Wendy's, any restaurant for that matter. Its a huge money maker no matter where you buy it. But as in anything else...if someone doesn't like the price, just don't buy it.

You would need to drink over 71 sodas per day before Princess would not make a profit. They pay Coke 6 cents a can and much less than that for fountain drinks. Disposible cups cost more that the soda inside. Sodas are a high profit margin product.

I'm not a sodaholic like many people are. I'd rather get my calories from the food offered on the ship than drink alot of sodas.

I'm personally not a big soda drinker but let's see...

1) there are other choices of soda besides Coca Cola

2) some people like to drink soda and over the course of the day 3 sodas is not a lot to them (especially considering 1 at lunch and 1 at dinner is not very much)

3) diet soda is an option and a diet soda x 3 <> 500+ calories

4) not every soda has caffeine, some people don't drink soda FOR caffeine and some people don't care for coffee or tea... even if it's free

5) some people aren't into dessert

Some people aren't into ship casino games... some people aren't into ship shopping... some people aren't into ship bingo... some people aren't into ship drink specials... some people will never buy a ship coffee card... some people will never buy a ship soda card... others will.

Vive la difference!

:D

If you find that $4.25 a day + 15% gratuity is too expensive, I wanted to point out the soda sticker on 'budget' Carnival is $6 a day + 15%. I expect they are charging more to compensate for 2 for 1 usage.

I travel solo and buy the soda sticker, so I cannot support any soda sticker sharing. it's something I don't have to pay a single supplement on, so let's not build it into the fair (sodas free on Disney but they charge more, as I understand it--family cruising is not my type of vacation).

I prefer the card to hauling Diet Coke 12-packs on the cruise (I'd need more than one). I fly to the cruise port and it is just me dealing with my luggage.. At home I use an online grocery service (Peapod) and have my 12-packs delivered. So, I'm not shopping/carrying them on my relaxing vacation.

As a new cruiser to Princess, I would like a little more information about these "soda cards." I will be sailing with my two teenage grandsons who drink soda like there is no tomorrow and have heard that sodas are about $4 each on the ship. How much are the cards, what are the restrictions, and how do I get them for the boys? Thanks for any input. Debbie

I think it's $4.50 per day + 15% tip.

You can't miss them - you will no doubt have multiple chances to buy the sticker on the first day.

With a coke sticker on your card you can get fountain pop from any bar at any time just by showing the sticker. You'll also get a tumbler that can be used. Fountain pop is not available w/o the sticker - cans are the other option.

For me, its breakeven at 2 cokes per day (which in their sizes I drink easily, remember these are bar sized cokes, not McDonalds MegaJugs.) Beyond that, it's just a matter of not having to care about it (fixed cost versus variable). If I want a soda, I get a soda and don't worry. It's the same logic that has me buy the almost all inclusive package when we go to Disney.

I feel it is all about honesty and ethics....

We always BUY 2 coke cards and we use them....hubby will take both coke cards up to a bar and get us each a diet coke....

I drink diet coke at meals, at poolside and sometimes in the Princess Theater because I don't drink alcohol, as I don't need alcohol to have a good time or the extra calories and/or sugar.

Sodas are about $1.95 each plus 15% grat.

The card works out to about $4.25 or so per day of the cruise plus the 15% grat.

I have read on here about the ultimate kids package, can someone tell me what this entails and how much it costs. Is it just for kids? Or can adults purchase it too?

Anyone can get it - price is somewhere around $9+ a day.

It's the soda card + virgin fruit drinks.

::: waving "Hello!" to Brian :::

I believe it includes everything the soda card does, plus juice at non-breakfast times and "virgin" drinks. :)
