passport or BC?

The passport alone is all you need. Leave the BC safe at home.

You can, however, hide a photocopy of the BC as well as a copy of your passport photo page in your carryon or luggage to have in case you lose your ID while abroad.

Your passport is all the ID you need no matter where you travel in the world. It is accepted by all nations on earth. Leave the BC at home and your DL unless you intend to rent a car somewhere. BTW you can use your passport for an ID when boarding a domestic flight inside the US. TSA likes it better than your DL.

In addition to your passport if you also have a drivers license take it. You don't have to have it but it's a good idea to have this just in case you lost your passport and needed to help facilitate getting a new one. Or if the ship was holding passports and you just needed another government id. Again, not required, just nice to bring along if you have one.
