Glory balcony for non-smokers?

Hi,

Heard some reviews saying they found ashtrays on the balcony when they entered the room on the first day. I have just booked a Carnival Glory balcony room. I am wondering does Carnival Glory offer non-smoking balcony rooms (including the balcony) at all? If so, then I would need to call Carnival to request one. If not, then please let me know, if you are a non-smoker and booked a balcony room before, do you smell any cigarette smoke on your balcony and the room?

As far as I know, all Carnival balconies are allowed to be smoking, and since it's outside, there's little chance that the balcony will smell like smoke when you arrive. Smoking in staterooms is also allowed by Carnival (except Spa Staterooms) and they do clean the staterooms before you arrive. If you smell leftover smoke in the stateroom, just notify your stateroom attendant.

We had five inside rooms on Glory in 2004. No one complained about anything that trip. If Glory doesn't offer non-smoking rooms at all, I think we will be fine this time. Thanks for your explanation.

The Glory does not have any cabins or balconies that are nonsmoking.

However, the Dream does (sailing from Port Canaveral) and the Splendor does (sailing from Long Beach, Ca).

Both have Spa Cabins that restrict smoking in the cabins and on the balconies.

I know I'm gonna get flamed by all the smokers out there, but I wish the cruiselines would have one-side of the ship's cabins delegated as smoking and the other non-smoking (like they do when out on public decks.).

People will tell you that when you're out on your balcony, with the ship moving, there's no way you'll smell the smoke from other folks smoking out on their balconies. That's a load of bull. I ALWAYS smell it if someone's out there smoking. Sigh:(

I think someday this will happen, but for now we just pray we don't have any chain smokers for neighbors.

To answer your question, yes, you can usually smell the smoke from a neighbor in close proximity.

Not exactly correct. There is no smoking on the balconies in the Cloud 9 spa cabins on the Splendor and Dream.

MOST of the time you will not be bothered by cigarette smoke while on your balcony. Sometimes you will smell someone smoking, but it is usually brief and generally smoke is not present every time you are on your balcony.

That said, however, we had the misfortune of being booked next to two chain smoking little old ladies that spent the entire 10 day cruise on their balcony smoking. And talking very loudly (they were half deaf). That cruise we didn't spend as much time on our balcony.

there was a smoke free ship in the Carnival fleet a few years ago that we went on called the Paradise( she is still in service but is now smoking).

I was a smoker up until about 10 years ago..and we are going on CCL cruise #6 in Feb.. I can honestly say I have yet to smell cigarette smoke inside the cabin.. on the balcony it can be another story and of course there is the casino.. some times it is so bad in there we can't stay.. I would suggest ( if I may be so bold) that you take a travel size of frabreze(sp) if you are worried about a smelly room..

happy cruising

You will NOT be bothered by stale smoke in you Stateroom. In 9 cruises we have never had a problem. The only smoke I have smelled from my balcony was the illegal type drifting over from another balcony.

YIKES!!!!:eek:ROFLMAO

I've never seen ashtrays. If they are there, I don't see them. Yes, I have smelled smoke on the balcony, but it's not that bad and it's not that often. We haven't been on Glory, but we've had balconies. The only one little situation we had was the guy on RCCL who smoked his Cuban cigars on the way back. We shut our balcony door. I know cigars are special to some people, so we just didn't go out when he was smoking. I never smell smoke in the room, though!

I don't smoke..never have. I've been on 25 plus cruises and the only time I got a brief whiff is when the ship was in Port and not moving and my neighbor was standing by the rail on his balcony. If it really is going to bother you, you may want to book the 1st Stateroom forward. This way you will have only one neighbor and chances are the wind will be blowing any smell aft (in case they are smokers). Just a suggestion!

Just hope you don't have a smoker in front of you.

Our group had two balcony cabins on a recent Glory cruise. The cabin in between us had chain smokers in it, I think it was ALL they did on the cruise. You could actually smell it in the hallway, even when their cabin door was closed.

As for the balcony situation, because my cabin was in front of the smokers I never had much of a problem, even when we were both out on the balconies. Our family in the other cabin was always downwind and they caught the worst of it.

Hi,

Heard some reviews saying they found ashtrays on the balcony when they entered the room on the first day.

Really? I only read ONE review that said that.

Seems it said some other stuff, too, that was---well, never mind.

Enough people sail Carnival that:

--if you smoke, you won't have a problem finding a place to do it.

--if don't smoke, you won't have a problem finding a place to avoid smoke.

ENJOY!! :)

Nope.

And the odds are in your favor that the previous resident was a non smoker as well.

If there's an ashtray there when you get there, just give it to your attendant. DW is always looking for one, and we never get them.

Of course it's a bunch of BS. For better or worse, Carnival's smoking policies are pretty liberal. The problem with making one side smoking and the other side non-smoking is if one side fills up faster than the other side. Carnival does not want to lose smoking passengers by telling them that the smoking side of the ship is completely full. When you get the chance to go on one of the new ships, be prepared to pay extra for the non-smoking spa balcony cabins. We booked one on the Magic for next summer and I feel good about not having to worry about breathing nice clean air out on the balcony. The other spa benefits are an added bonus as well.

Do some of you hold roll call for the neighbors that smoke that they are always on the balcony at the same time you are. We have had a balcony the last 18 cruises and never had a problem with smokers on the balcony, with the ship moveing we get more then enough wind whipping around. The only time we saw our neighbors was leaving or entering a port. I have my cigar on sail day at 130 on the balcony and nobody is ever around, on all those cruises. We think we use our balcony alot and thats only maybe 2 hrs a day, if its 3 thats pushing it. Everybody is out and about, port days and sail days.

20 years, almost all balconies’s and wraps and never had a problem with smoke.

Problems were more to the soot and trash from above type. Have had ice thrown on us from above a couple of times in wraps. Most annoying are guests arguing/fighting or drunk a door or so away on the balcony. Neighbor’s last cruise used a stereo on the deck so loud some one had staff show up and have it turned down.

Had a whiff of a cigar once but was gone in a minute.
