waterbug123 Posted September 6, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2010 Just a point of information for D+ members who might find the info useful in selecting their amenity.... If you choose the RC logo beach towel, be aware that the quality of this item has been reduced. In the past these were very heavy towels, with the design woven in. But I noticed that the one we got last month on Grandeur has a screenprinted design, rather than one woven in. The screen printing definitely gives it a cheap look. It is also not as thick/heavy, and it's about 6" shorter in length. Again, just an FYI for D+ members.

I just chose my amenity for my upcoming cruise and was considering the towel (even though I already have 2-3!) I decided on wine instead :) The towels with the woven in design are fantastic - I'm sad to hear they have compromised that kind of quality :(
LMZinSC Posted September 6, 2010 #3 Share Posted September 6, 2010 Wouldn't you know it. We are set to receive our first D+ amenity next month and I so wanted the towel.:( Bummer! I will probably take it any way though of course.
disfan Posted September 6, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 6, 2010 Hey Waterbug, you beat me to it. Last month on the Monarch, I received the embroidered look , heavy weight towel, that was "Made in Turkey- Exclusively for Royal Caribbean", and sealed in a plastic bag. I thought that I would get a matching one, so I ordered another towel on last week's Freedom. What I got was a loose "Made in China" smaller towel with hanging threads, that looked like a used re-washed towel. Yeah I know, "free is free- don't complain" but it was not what I thought that I would receive.

mommabean Posted September 6, 2010 #6 Share Posted September 6, 2010 I have also selected the towel again for my upcoming cruise. The old ones were nice but they don't wash well. They end up looking all pill balled and full of multi-colored lint. Maybe the new ones will come out better in the wash. I would also think there could have been a demand for a lighter weight towel with the weight restrictions on luggage. I have actually wanted a lightweight thin beach towel to take off the ship to the beach. the ones they supply for us to take are so bulky. I want something thin that will fit more compactly in my beach bag. This might work out well for me. This may also drive up the ebay price for the old style. FYI, I also have 2 different style microfiber totes. At first glance they look alike but there are subtle differences in the first ones I received from the current ones. Gina I looked at my first D+ tote bag. The little film strip picture is not in the middle. Instead it has the logo stitched on in the middle in white only with the former add campaign slogan also stitched on - "get out there". Otherwise the bag is the same. I like the old bag better - I think the film strip looks silly. Gina
Tagsalong Posted September 6, 2010 #8 Share Posted September 6, 2010 We always get the wine. Guess our Oct.2 cruise on Oasis will see us getting the Walmart $2.65 Spring Oak bottle! Sorry, I forgot the exact name -(something) Oak.
insulationbabe Posted September 6, 2010 #9 Share Posted September 6, 2010 It's oak leaf but you were close - hey that wine's not bad in a pinch - the merlot is bad but the charonnay is ok Our TA always has a nice bottle of white wine waiting for me anyway:)
PantherFan Posted September 6, 2010 #10 Share Posted September 6, 2010 We got this same cheaper towel back in May on the Mariner. It was the same ogo towel that they were using as pool towels on the ship.

mikebz Posted September 6, 2010 #12 Share Posted September 6, 2010 I really don't want to step on anyones toes, and will probably get flamed for this comment, BUT. One of the reasons that RCI gave for eliminating the welcome back amenity for all C & A members was that it was not appreciated. I remember too many people posting here, that they didn't like the hat, had too many of this, or too many of that. Well, I am not D+ yet, but I would like to still have some benefits when I get there. Free is free, stop complaining. If you feel disatisfied with your gift, give it back to your room steward. I bet you wouldn't like the look you get. Again, it would be rude. Thank you
Laoghaire Posted September 6, 2010 #13 Share Posted September 6, 2010 Hello...We were on the Serenade OTS in April, and received two! One made in China and a lighter one made in Egypt! Don't know how that happened. Helen

wolfcathorse Posted September 6, 2010 #16 Share Posted September 6, 2010 D+'s got a D+ tote bag??? I've been D+ for a little and never got that! s for the towel as an amenity, I'll pick a towel up at the pool and pay the $20. I prefer to drink my amenity. 39august Posted September 6, 2010 #18 Share Posted September 6, 2010 One per cabin. And the tote bag was not given to D+'s across the board. It is one of the D+ amenities that you are allowed to order each cruise.

Some ships leave the pool towel in the room for D+ so we don't have to go through the towel check out and return. As for using the D+ amenity towel. And ruin it? LOL Really we for some reason prefer an object to take home. As DH says, we can drink all the wine we want in the CL so we may as well get something that's not available already on the ship. I may be able to go into business soon though with all these towels and totes. I wish they would come up with other non-edible non-drinkable amenities. (And I don't mean slippers - they seem to hand them out many times anyway) Gina

mommabean Posted September 6, 2010 #22 Share Posted September 6, 2010 see my attachement I noticed there are a few other options for 49+ cruise credits. waterbug123 Posted September 6, 2010 Author #23 Share Posted September 6, 2010 I would also think there could have been a demand for a lighter weight towel with the weight restrictions on luggage. For fun, I weighed them on a food scale, and the new one is 10oz lighter. But I would be very surprised if RC made this change because a bunch of people complained that the towel made their luggage too heavy. No doubt it was purely a cost-saving measure. If my luggage was too heavy I would just choose a different amenity that did not need to be taken home. Maybe wine for instance, that can be consumed onboard. YMMV

I think I'll have to start with the picture frame or photo album soon. Have you gotten either of these items? If so, what do they look like? What size is the album?
