Soda/Drink Prices

Recommended Posts

Should I point out now or later that these prices are considerably less than one would pay at, for example, the bar in a Vegas hotel or any big city hotel... or any bar at any resort....

With the tip, $2.24 for a soda, $8 or $9 for a mixed drink, maybe $5.75 or so for a beer.... try getting those prices out of the mini-bar at the Hilton.

Sure it'd be great if they were cheaper. But they're not.

I think the OP was just asking if the prices are correct not complaining. No need to call in the Carnival Defense Force quite yet.

Agreed...but it is a good point. I cringed when I saw the drink price list, but then reminded myself that I pay (depending on whether I'm at a lounge, casino bar, club) $6-10 for a beer in Vegas and $10-18 for a mixed drink! I frequent Disney as well and nowadays beers run $5.75+ and mixed drinks, $8+. But it's never a bad thing to remind people that they are paying regular vacation prices and not what they pay at a downhome bar :)

Exactly, I was only wanting to make sure I was reading things correctly.

I don't need to be reminded what the Hilton charges or Vegas, as I am not staying at either when I am on a Carnival cruise.

Also, just some FYI, I don't stay at Hiltons and I can get Heinekens for $2 all over downtown Vegas.

Anyway, thank you for the responses, I will budget accordingly.

DH and I were at the evening show on our last cruise and for 2 cosmos with the 15% tip it was right over 20.00.

WOW, I can see why all the "smuggling" goes on now. Wasn't following it at first, but I didn't know how much drink prices had gone up in the last two/three years.

Lots of ports have cold beers for $1 ... different than buying in the bar at a hotel or on a cruiseship. .. especially on a cruiseship where there is no competition. .. unlike at the ports.

You can still get cheaper drinks too ... why concentrate only on the high end??

Morning specials abound, and port specials .. and just a regular bar drink, no fancy glass is less than what is posted as averager, just a rum and coke, one liquor.

They do have specials for certain drinks on certain nights that is not for the whole cruise tho.. I only wish it was LOL:p

That is good to know as I was just posting an avg. of what I saw.

You posted that you can take your fancy glass up for a $2 less drink/refill, the website said it is only .75 less.

You could also look at getting the soda card. I always get my moneys worth from that. I don't care for tea, so I do drink sodas while on a cruise. Plus I can use that to go with the bottle of CC we get from BV. It turns out to be much cheaper at the end of the week than getting individual drinks every time.

Does the soda card work for room service? We're planning to ordering through Bon Voyage (rather than deal with the stress/paranoia/time consumption if we're caught smuggling). If the soda card works for room service, that will be great!

Am I reading this correctly that a bucket of Bud Light beer is $24 for 4 bottles. For some reason I thought that was for 5 beers. Just questioning for a neighbor who will be sailing Carnival in Jan and drinks that stuff like it was water. Thanks!

No, the soda card does not include room service sodas. Also, just a FYI, although it's called a soda 'card', it's actually a sticker that is affixed to your sail and sign card. Juice however is available on the menu at no charge from roomservice.

Another also... your can only get one soda or juice at a time from the bars or dining room.

So what drinks can you get for $5.25 - the value of a drink coupon? I know you can apply them towards the cost of a higher priced drink but are there any that you can actually get with just the coupon?

I am not certain, but I believe it would be things like a rum/coke or vodka/sour, etc.

The drink coupon is an interesting thing too. I notice you get 4 coupons, valued at $5.25ea.(gratuities included). That totals $21 yet it is imprinted on the sheet that it has a $21.25 value. How is that?

LOL - you are right! I just ordered some yesterday and paid $21.25 for each sheet - doesn't make sense  I wonder if the value of the coupon has gone done or the price up because I remember reading that you saved a slight bit by purchasing the coupons???

Now I remember what the "savings" is - the gratuity. If there were a drink valued at $5.25 you would save the cost of the tip.
