After your first balcony cruise.....

I totally agree with all the posters...I shared an inside room on my last cruise, never again, felt like the walls were closing in.

Also, I am a smoker, so I smoke on the balcony (I choose the most AFT room I can, so the smoke goes behind the ship). I also ask my balcony neighbors if the smoke bothers them.

I have also had Suite, but the only reason I like it is the VIP boarding...heck, I can wait an hour or so and save big bucks.

Wow. I REALLY dislike smoke...but if I'm ever stuck next to a smoker, I hope it's you! You have an incredible amount of respect for fellow passengers, and on behalf of all non-smokers, THANK YOU!

(sorry for the hijack OP)

Well I have never had a balcony cabin myself. I usually try to do PT or OV cabins. But my mom isn't big on what kind of cabin she has, and she got an upgrade to a cove balcony on our last cruise.. She loved it. She's booked in a OV cabin on our upcoming cruise & keeps saying she won't miss the balcony, so we will see if that is true. I honestly don't think my mom will miss it though because as I said, she was never particular on cabins to begin with. But you never know! My brother & his girlfriend had a cove balcony on our last cruise too, and they have an inside cabin this time on our upcoming cruise (trying to save $$$). And they aren't even on the cruise yet & already make comments about how they are gonna miss having a balcony. So it all depends on the person, I suppose!

We have never done anything other than a balcony. I know I wouldn't like it. I want to be able to 'feel' the weather. Love morning coffee and danish out there. Also nice to sit out there while waiting for the other to get dressed/shower, and as far as liking the inside so you can sleep in, I can sleep at home. I'm on a cruise. I want to experience it.

I've been in a suite, a regular balcony cabin, and an aft balcony. I would certainly be willing to try cruising without one, but it would be difficult because I get up at least an hour before my fellow cruiser(s) and drink a pot of coffee on the balcony. We also spend at least an hour or more there each evening, as well as at random times during the day. When there are 3 of us girls in a cabin, it's a great place for 1 or 2 to hang out while the other showers, changes clothes, and gets ready to go! :)

When I cruised with my husband, he was in bed the first two days because of rough seas. I was always either in the casino or on the balcony. It was a nice place for me to hang out while in the cabin as opposed to sitting there watching him sleep. :(

I tried it on our last cruise a 4 nighter on the Navigator trying to go cheap then RCI had the nerve to drop the price and forced to me to upgrade back to a balcony :D:D:D Its hard once you start even on a short cruise 3 sea days glad we did corner aft. :)

Nope - never gone back to an oceanview from a balcony. We actually got hooked on suites after taking one for a special anniversary and have done only suites since 2000 We've got an aft facing balcony for a short cruise coming up and already thinking we made a huge mistake and won't be happy, especially because of the size of the bathroom. We have another cruise booked for August with DS and family and have standard balcony cabins next door to each other. If the next cruise in 9 days does not work out then we will upgrade for the August cruise to a GS.

Have you been able to switch back to an oceanview or inside? Sometimes I look at the prices of the oceanview rooms and think we should save a few bucks and go back to an OV. But, before booking we talk ourselves out of it and stick with the balcony!! Once we switched to balconies, it was like a whole new vacation experience! LOL :D

WE sprung for a balcony for our 10th anniversary cruise and enjoyed it, but not enough.

We prefer to cruise twice a year in insides, versus once a year on a balcony.

WE hated having to wait for a year before and after that cruise, rather than our usual Sept. and January/February cruises in insides.

We are doing our 2nd balcony in September, but only because on the Legend, the balconies were only $200 more, rather than almost double like usual.

(plus it is one of those triple length balconies)

If they would let me sleep on a sofa on the Promenade and shower in the spa and cruise 3 or 4 times a year, I would jump at that. :D

I really don't like cruising without a balcony, but we have had insides on last minute 3-4 day cruises and survived, but even though it was just fine, I DO miss the balcony. For us, that balcony pretty much "makes" the cruise -

That said, I'm sure that I would book us inside again on a short, last-minute cruise.

First cruise was on the Riviera Deck. Moved up to a balcony cabin on the Empress deck on the second one. Said we would never not get a balcony again. On the third cruise, we booked a balcony cabin on the Empress deck but was upgraded to the Panorama Deck. You guessed it, we would never go lower again.
