What is there today in St. Martin-St. Marteen

Recommended Posts

What do folks do in St. Martin?

I don't mean to be rude but I am about to make my 3rd stop there and still don't know why so many folks list is as their favorite. It is something I must endure to go to St. Thomas.

Beaches - got private island stop

Snorkeling - could it be more beautiful than my excursion the day before in St. Thomas

1st trip - beach package and then an island tour (55 passenger bus driving to other side - took a nap

2nd trip - hike, long shuttle ride, okay hike then shuttle driver tried to make us stop in Marigot (not on itinerary) and we had appointments back on the boat. He actually took a vote.

3rd trip - strongly considering zip line

Have considered town bike tour; just not many options.

Butterfly farm doesn't appeal to me but neither does another beach day.

Any suggestions are helpful.

What's wrong with a beach day?

Why do you want to go to the Caribbean in the first place?

IMO some of the beaches in St. Maarten rival many on St. Thomas. In addition there are casinos in Phillipsburg and prices at some shops there rival the prices you will find in St. Thomas. Had you stopped in Marigot you might have enjoyed the French atmosphere which contrasts so much with the atmosphere of the Dutch side of the island. But as someone else has mentioned, what is so bad about another beach day? Check out Maho Bay where airplanes pass low overhead as they prepare to land at the International airport.

I am the exact opposite, I look forward to St. Maarten and could care less about St. Thomas. To each their own.

I think the lushness of St. Thomas makes it an overall prettier island compared to St. Maarten/St. Martin. Other than that the only thing that St.Thomas has is its proximity to St. John. What beach in St. Thomas is as nice as Mullet, Pinel or on a calm day, Orient? Shopping is better in St. Martin IMHO as well. For snorkeling go to the only really great snorkeling spot Creole Rock. St. Martin has fabulous restaurants and a great nightlife that people can actually go out and enjoy. I don't mean to be rude either but did you do any research before you planned your first two visits to the island? This is an island that has gorgeous beaches and you took a bus ride and hiked! I have a feeling that you are setting yourself up for a disappointing third visit as well if you choose to go zip-lining. I would not consider a bike tour or a jeep tour in St Maarten, it is just too congested and not the island for it. I would suggest researching the beaches and going to one of them, stopping for a nice lunch and doing some shopping or taking the rhino riders excursion to creole rock to snorkel and then continuing on to a beach after that. There is lots of information on this board and with a little planning and a good attitude you could have an awesome day on St. Martin. :)

We have only been to St. Maarten once, but it was one of our favorite ports ever - overall, most beautiful beaches in our opinion. Our family rented a jeep and drove around the island, sampling different beaches. We found one (I think it was Dawn Beach) that was truly the most magnificent beach we'd ever been to. Good luck - hope you find something that will appeal to you this time around!

Golden Eagle Catamaran is a great excursion! We've done that one twice and enjoyed it immensely. It's hard to suggest something, not knowing what you enjoy doing. We like snorkeling and beaches, so it fit us just right!

On our last cruise we did a tour with Bernard. It really gave us a wonderful taste of all the amazing things St. Martin has to offer ... so much so that we chose to return for a weeklong land vacation. We went to orient, marigot, maho, had some shopping time, saw some beautiful views ... we really enjoyed it.

We did the tour with Bernard and loved it. He takes you to some nice places / beaches for a little sampling. He is a great guy. Very knowledgeable and has a great passion for the Island.
