Mid-late 20's solo cruisers??

I just finished my second cruise ever - on the Norwegian Jade, as a 29 y.o. solo traveller, leaving Venice. I have the same problem as you - most of my friends can't come along due to financial or relationship constraints. I have to admit that there aren't very many young single/solo travellers on my 2 cruises, but I was able to befriend other travellers travelling as families, especially with grown children (say, the grown children in their 20s as well).

On Louis Cruises, you'll find travellers travelling with Contiki Tours, which targets the 18 to 30-something crowd. However, the crowd I met last summer (August 2010) consisted mainly of Aussies & Brits, and all they want to do is drink (they bought the all-inclusive drinks package). I don't even know if they got off the ship to do ANY shore excursions. Pretty much the Contiki crowd was a "frat house" crowd, not exactly my cup of tea.

I've grown to like cruising solo - the staff/stewards are very kind and there's nothing like enjoying a balcony all to yourself on Mediterranean cruises.

So I say, kudos to you, keep it up!

joy! i am not alone!

i am 32 and i do things alone all the time with no worries (i PREFER concerts alone and wont let anyone come with me), but a full on vacation always made me nervous. last year i did my first land vacation alone and loved it, and decided to upgrade to the cruise this year to test the waters at going international alone (the goal to go to the places no one else i know will - SE asia, ecuador, russia etc).

all you youngins that state the reasons you cruise alone are exactly the same as mine. sometimes its nice to have the affirmation :]

Im in my late 30's just did my first solo cruise and I loved it, I am looking for another one to book as we speak. If I waited for someone to vaca with me I would never go anywhere. I hate when people think I am lonely because I went on a cruise by myself, I know married people that are lonely..please dont get me started on that. Anyway love cruising solo.

215girl, Glad you had a great time on your first solo trip. My first solo trip was a while back, but I found that traveling solo gets to be addicting. Because of limited vacation time I used to do a couple 7 dayers a year, but now I have moved to just one longer trip as then you can really relax and kick back. Happy sailing.

Well, it looks like my first "solo" cruise will have to wait. My sister and bro in law decided they want to cruise with me so we will be sailing Freedom of the Seas June 24th. I will be glad to have the company and am sure we will have a great time, but I definately still want try the solo thing in the future. Now I just got to make it 6 weeks and 5 more days!!!:D

I did my first solo at 30 and never looked back. One of the things that helped me was to not worry so much about meeting people my age and just be open to it. Some of the most fun I had were with people who were older than me, and who welcomed me into a big family reunion cruise they were having.

Also, one of the reasons I started cruising solo was the problem of having friends in there 20's who couldn't afford to go. Once I went and talked about how great it was, my friends changed their minds and wanted to come along on the next one.

Luckily, they came in an odd number and I made the (extremely willing) sacrifice to pay more to have my own cabin. This made the trip great even though I wasn't, strictly speaking, solo, but I had all the advantages of traveling solo.

Now I'd say I do solo about 2 out of 3 cruises and go with friends maybe 1 in 3. About half the time I go with friends, I still get a solo cabin.

Woohoo, there are loads of us out here! I'm a 27 yr old single girl in the UK and about to book my third solo for all the reasons you have already mentioned. So next time I get that slightly confused look of 'But you look too young to be here on your own, what's that about?' I will think of all of you and how many great times have been had by us younger solo cruisers :D

zpdw484 - You might not be travelling alone any more but you could always try doing a few things by yourself to see how it goes. Have a great cruise

Yea it is great to know that there are other people out there in the same situation as us. I was definately psyched about my first solo cruise but I think going with my sis and BIL will work out well. My sister and I have sailed together many times and had a blast. I will definately do many things on my own and try to not be a total "third" wheel. lol soooo excited. Just checked my inbox and our cruise docs were issued today!! It's starting to seem real!! Only 46 days!!!

My next solo cruise is not until next year on the Adventure of the Seas, but I did a 9 night solo cruise on the Explorer in January and I loved it; my cabin was spacious and I got to set my own schedule. I can't wait to do it again next year.

I have been on 8 cruises, but haven't been fortunate enough to sail since 06. I miss it sooo badly! I can't seem to get anyone to go with me. I am a 27 yr old single male and do not have a travel partner. Seems like all my friends are either married, in a relationship, or just can't come up with the money to go. Anyways, I have decided that I am not going to sacrifice something I love any more. I work hard, so why shouldn't I vacation hard??? I am used to living alone (except for the dog) so why not crusie alone? Just because i'm single doesn't mean I shouldn't cruise right??? lol Anyways, any advice for a 27yr old male solo cruiser?? I am a pretty seasoned traveler and cruiser but haven't done the "solo" thing yet. Is there any other 20 something solo cruisers out there to give me some words of wisdom?? Surely I'm not the only person in this situation lol

I'm just a few years older than you, and I got one word of advice for you: do it! I had the same worries you're having, and none of them came true. Everybody was very nice. Eating alone in the buffet wasn't a problem; I saw plenty of people do it, and crew members occasionally stopped by to exchange a few words. Just be open to new interactions, take part in as many onboard activities as you can manage, don't be hesistant to join an existing group, and try to limit the time you spend in your cabin. At the absolute minimum, you will not hate it.

I made a promise to myself last year that I was booking my first cruise whether I go with someone or not. Since no one could get it together, I so happy to be going and can't wait. This is my 30th birthday present to myself!! Sailing on the Carnival Splendor on November 11th.

No, I just couldn't bring myself to spend that much more money for a solo cabin, when i could just book a triple cabin for the three of us. Saved a LOT of money. I originally had myself booked in an inside cabin, but now we have a triple balcony cabin and it is costing me around half what I was originally going to pay for the solo inside cabin. I'm not really the type to ever be in the cabin except to sleep for a couple of hours, so it will all be good. We have all agreed to definately use the "do not disturb" tag if needed so that no one will get any unexpected surprises lol

I'm so glad found this thread I thought I was the only 20 something to cruise solo. I'm so glad to think I'm not the only one, I was beginning to think I was a bit strange cruising solo in my 20's

I cruise solo for all the above reasons, and the only person you have to worry about is yourself. I first cruised solo when I was 22, haven't done it for a couple of years but I will certainly make up for it over the next 2 years, got 4 booked and I can't wait.

I prefer to cruise with celebrity even though the average age is 40-60, as somebody said I work hard so i like to holiday and I like a little bit of luxury.

Not quite late 20's, since I'm over the 30 hump (just barely) but I finally booked my first solo cruise on the NCL Epic this November. I figure the studio is a good place to start. Just like the majority of you, I find myself in the odd place- not being able to find a travel partner. They are either too busy with family, in a relationship that would make me the 3rd wheel, or don't have the vacation time / money to go. I've been talking about this for two years and figured it was time to take the plunge!

I'm also thinking about cruising solo for the first time. I've actually been on a few land trips alone but I love cruising more so I think this will be perfect. I'm thinking of Carnival Miracle out of NY.

Wow, I thought at 24, I was going to be the youngest to solo cruise.

I got the Liberty OTS coming up on Sept 1st. I booked it and afterwards had some hesitation because it is a Mediterranean cruise. You know, lots of couples. However, the main reason I did it is because I need a getaway to myself. My last 3 cruises I felt like I had to cater to everyone and lead the activities. I couldn't set the temperature in the room, I had to clamor over everyone else's stuff that they couldn't keep picked up. Ughhh.... I didn't hate it, but I imagine solo cruising is much better.

I plan on bringing a few books, reading by the pool, going to the casino, seeing the sights, etc. on my watch. Oh yeah, can't wait!

I'm too chicken to get on a plane to get to my cruise, guess it's my age and timid nature. I envy people like you.

I go solo but from my nearby port. I have no backup person if anything goes wrong.

Have a great time!!
