Kids in CL?

Recommended Posts

No, that's not what a said. It's about different things for different people but whatever the attraction to the CL, ultimately most people don't want children there for 3 1/2 hours a day. Some want adult conversation, some want free booze, some want a seat, some don't want kids hands on the food, some want to watch the D+ action, whatever...with no kids.

Gina

I'm not sure why all of that, outside of the free booze, would not be taken care of by an adults-only lounge even if you had to pay for the drinks. If the Viking Lounge was only 21+ after 5pm, but the drinks were not free, that would take care of anyone wanting a place to go to without children underfoot. The only difference is people won't go because the drinks aren't free.

Mind you I am in agreement that the CL is better as an adult-only place, but stating a valid alternate and dismissing it as being unpopular just makes it sound like the sticking point is the free booze, and not the adult-only atmosphere.

So does that mean kids should also enjoy the Crypt or other dance venues at night? I mean if you pay for your child to cruise they should be allowed to enter the dance clubs at night right? No wait they have a rule that says no one under 18 in clubs. Just like there was a rule for no children under 18 allowed in CL between 5 and 8:30. *Biggest reason is same reason the dance club still has. Alcohol being served and adult oriented venue at that time.

I would say there is a big difference between making a venue 18+ for everyone on board, and marketing one of the primary perks for suite being this lounge but then stating only some people can use it. Besides, children are allowed in all the other lounges at anytime, so I don't think it's a matter of alcohol being served, just they want to make an adult-only area for people.

We received a similar phone call that lasted @ 20 minutes. RCI appeared genuinely surprised at the blow back they are receiving over the new policy. Obviously they are reviewing the policy and hopefully they will reinstate the 3 1/2 hours of adults only time in the Lounges.

Just difficult to understand how anyone would think Adults, Liquor and Children in a confined space would somehow enhance the total cruising experience.

I think they are not going to change this policy back too quickly unfortunately. More likely they will try to appease both to some degree, and make a spillover "kid-friendly" (or adult-only) area.

The reason I mentioned first class is that in similar 'flying forums', a similar elitist, anti-child view is taken. Something that equally winds me up.

As a matter of clarity, I congratulated Mr Goldstein on the change of policy earlier today, I was given a lovely reply within 20 minutes. I wonder if any of the complainers received similar swift responses?

I've now un-subscribed to this thread, once again disappointed in the generalisation of certain scenarios by some of the CC community. My family, including my daughter look forward to a pre-dinner drink, spending around 20 minutes in the calm oasis of the CL each night of our forthcoming cruise.

I'm sure our louche behaviour won't lead to future alcoholism for my daughter.

Can you say Lindsay Lohan, Amy Winehouse, Kathy Lee Gifford?

After looking at some of the posts on this thread I think that the tone of the conversations is dreadful. Why on earth anyone would want to sit in the CL with children is beyond me, for goodness sake just go and enjoy the suite you have paid for. Please don,t assume that D+ have earned their credits in inside cabins, why would we when we get a great discount on balcony and above. This is one of the perks we enjoy as loyal RCCL cruisers. Also, you know who you are! do not expect any argument from me. I am merely stating my case. If there were any bothersome children in the CL then I would hope they would be quickly removed and the parents held responsible. I can only imagine that its folks like you that would be the type to let your child in the adults only solarium. I find mostly that the parents guilty of that usually pretend to be unable to read signs. Do enjoy your next cruise. I note that you are not a frequent cruiser and hope that this is the start of a new experience for you which is always made much better when one is pleasant and does not wind other guests up.

You know, this discussion was actually going well until you showed up. Everyone presented their opinions pretty respectfully for the most part. People were disagreeing without being disagreeable. You dragged it down to a whole different level. I think you are trolling.

So true. I went and read his review that he wrote of his cruise on Voyager and not once did he mention anything about how bad his 10 year old daughter felt about not being allowed in the CL. She was upset that she didn't get a towel animal every night.

I'm thinking Alaska, June 2012, ROS. Please people, as many of you as possible DO NOT BOOK this ship, you will hate sailing with me. I will ruin your whole cruise.

OK, now with so many of you canceling, prices will drop and I will get a great deal, maybe I can get the Royal Suite for the prices of the d+ insides so many of you use....

See you in the CL!

Yes, I did enjoy the pictures and your review. Can't believe that the same person that is posting here is the one that wrote that wonderful review.;)

Radiance is a beautiful ship. We'll be boarding on 9/27 so I will make sure that I alert the staff and especially the Concierge that you are coming.:D

Actually, we loved that cruise for lots of reasons and I am sure you can see that in my review, we also really liked RCCL and found the experience to be very good. The CL was a minor complaint that was an annoyance but not a deal breaker. We are the type of cruisers RCCL likes, we always like nice accommodations (suites), buy drinks, pics, shop, would go to the casino if it were smoke free, and in general contribute to the bottom line. We are nice to the staff, tip extra, and generally keep our cabin clean. We try hard to follow the rules.

However, in reading the attitude of some posters that think a guest booked in a suite does not deserve everything they pay for made me mad and I spoke out and got attacked and so I responded in kind. If you don't like my view point to bad, but I have a right to myi own opinion and I pay for the perks I receive.

Thank you, I will be the guy in the suite who is the big tipper with the nice polite family.

See my prior post, tried to nicely explain my viewpoint, but I am su I will get attacked because I stepped on some d+ toes.

Just curious if you've started on RCL to make the casinos all smoke free....if so, I'd be glad!!

I have, I put it on my comment card, wrote the corporate office and posted here. I told everyone how much I loved their cruise product but that they lost money because I would not gamble in the smoke filled casino. Give em time, they will come around.

Read this on a review..........

"There are truly some wise and experienced people who gave great advice that enhanced our trip. We are thankful for this board. "

Thank goodness for all us D+ whiners!!!

I stand by that statement, I have always benefited from this board, and it's members including some d+, I am proud of what I wrote and glad you posted it. I also read great advise on trip advisor, Rick Steves, and other places. Credit is given where it is due.

And "why all of that"? Because I didn't say what you said I said.

How wonderful! We saw her in October last and she was such a nice girl and a great Concierge!

I believe after our Dec cruise with her she was moved into Guest Relations (promotion I believe)....She IS a DOLL......absolutely genuinely sweet person....I think she goes home soon as she can't fly after 7 months and she's due in Nov.......

sorry for the off topic....back to our regular programming ;)

She went home today. She always worked in guest services behind the scenes doing work to clear the ship in ports. I can't remember her exact title. She worked at the guest services desk as needed. She was trained to fill in as concierge but has never done it as her main job. She had the personality along with the experience needed from a job she had prior to working for RCI.

I think everyone misses her. We'd probably all change our tune if it was her bringing her baby into the CL. ;) :)

You all need to stop this nonsense immediately. Hate to break it to you, but currently, there are bigger issues at stake in the world than whether or not a child is allowed in the CL. We all can respectfully disagree or agree with the new policy, but both suite guests and D+ guests are showing a very unappealing side of themselves at the moment.

I am a D+ member, been cruising in suites since back in the 90’s, and have spent hundreds of thousands with RCL. But let me tell you something – that doesn’t make me better or more entitled than anyone of you on this board. I am of the opinion that my loyalty has earned me the benefit of using the CL just as someone who is paying the suite price has earned the benefit of using the CL. However, if we don’t stop this complaining and griping, there isn’t going to be a CL for anyone. That space can be converted to a revenue space faster than you can say “D+”. Don’t kid yourself folks, if I were RCL giving you such a nice benefit and ALL I heard was complaining, I would start second guessing if it really was worth my time and money to provide such a benefit to ungrateful people. Like it or not, that is where we are at the moment – on the border of being ungrateful. Choose which fire you want to play with - a CL with polite children or no CL at all. The choice and ultimate outcome is in your hands - so think about what you are saying and if it is really worth firing off a letter to the entire board of directors.

None of us have even been in the CL since the new policy was announced – yet we are saying these huge statements as if we are experts on the subject. Frankly, you aren’t until you experience it first-hand. At the end of the day, you will see that this policy isn’t geared at little children; but rather ages 12-17. Let’s be frank – I would take 12-17 year old any day of the week over 21-22 (and I was this type of guy back in the days, so no flaming!) year olds who act as if they are at the Frat House. Would you?

Now stop it and start focusing your attention on other issues and put this petty behavior behind us. Experience this so called “crisis” on your next cruise and then make an informative opinion about it. But cut the BS.

Thanks Gina! I just sent her a message on FB....and she wouldn't have to bring it in the CL...I'd babysit her the whole cruise!! Wouldn't be a problem!!!

She is a GR8 concierge....

Course, Fernando and Reyno are right up there on top with Georgina!!!
