Kids in CL?

Recommended Posts

Okay since everyone if fired up anyway, what is the thought on kids in the CL during breakfast and lunch? This will be our first suite and I planned on using the CL for a few family breakfasts and/or lunches. I know this is allowed, but is it frowned upon by others in the CL? For us it is a perfect escape from the MDR and WJ with a much quieter atmosphere.

Firstly, what I may find significant you may not - costs are subjective.

Secondly, you need to check your facts before you speculate what I or others may have paid. In my case we're talking approximately £1,800 ~$2,900 USD for my daughter.

Get over it.

Over what?

That is the key. It is quieter at other times of day, too, as long as your kids are under control. I have no issue with kids in the CL at other times of day as long as they aren't whining. I'm one who prefers them the younger the better. Just not during cocktail hour.

Ahhhh, you're right ! People will be unhappy and of course, this will affect the concierge tip.

I'm really sorry to hear this news. Don't want kids in the lounge during the evening.

I'm not sure it's a matter of unhappiness on the D+ part. I think, if I'm not mistaken, that what Patti means is that if the D+ end up eliminated from the CL, the tips will be affected because there are less people in the lounge to tip. I personally believe that most of the tips (the primary source of the concierge's income) are from D+/PC.

.....$5000.00 is alot more money than $699.00 for an inside room in my world.... but I guess if you are D+ is akin as Royalty and all must bow to the wishes of your highness(es)....;)

It was the significant cost of having a child - the third person - in the suite. Of course if they don't like the cost for the first two, they can go ahead and downgrade to a small room and pay the same for the child. It's the child in the CL and the "significant cost" for them to be in the suite that I was addressing. The child is paying no more for suite access than they are in the interior room, so why should they be allowed into the CL for cocktails. For that insignificant cost the child already had CL access for the other 21 hours a day.

And if $399 for a 3rd person is a significant cost to someone paying in excess of $2000 per person for a suite, then I think they are in over their heads already. Subjectivity has nothing to do with it.

Using dollar cost averaging the price is pretty nice when 4 or more people start packing into a suite.

Cost depends completely on your ship and sailing date. I am paying $1299.00 for each of my children for our suite in November.

I understand this for your ship. Most ships aren't priced like Allure and Oasis. I won't even book either of these ships because of the cost. There is no chance I'll pay for a balcony on those ships when I can get a JS on another ship for less.

But generally speaking, the 3rd and 4th person ARE a whole lot less on most sailings and ships.

the quote i was referring to :

"I think you may find several vacant Concierge positions if RCI were to eliminate D+ from the CL. "

i said there will always be a replacement for the ones foolish enough to leave. the waiting line is too long.

i also see by your signature you have a long way to PC if D+ are eliminated...

Nights at sea and cruise points are two entirely different things. I think Patti has been in suites on many of those nights...doubling up. ;)

Not to mention she has a whole lot of nights coming up.

As my signature does not give you number of nights that we have/are sailing per cruise(s) nor does it list the cabin that we were/are booked in, you really have no idea when we will make PC.

I will tell you that we am much closer than you think and will need 111 cruise points after we return home from our 3 consecutive cruises in November. :D Taking into consideration our future cruises that are also listed in my signature, we should make PC by October of 2012.

Thanks Megr. I'm sure people do complain they can't bring the kiddies in, however that's why there's an adventure ocean. Kiddies can come in all day and all night except for a few hours. It's just ridiculous to me that the few seats available for adults to enjoy cocktails will be filled with babies and 5 year olds.

I am one in agreement that kids should not be in the CL or DL (is this change with the DL as well, I didn't think kids were allowed in there during the cocktail hour/diamond event).

There is a problem with the Adventure Ocean use that I have found when trying to go to the DL/DE. We have early seating, as many people with younger (7 in our case) kids do, and she goes to dinner with us. However, on our cruises, we find that the Adventure Ocean group go to dinner at 5 with the kids (at least on our last two cruises, I guess it gets them there and back before regular dinner crowd). So we need to take her out of there by 5pm to go to dinner with us. Then you cannot go to the CL/DL without the child (in our case, we just don't go)

Finally, RCCL has found a way to solve the overcrowding problem in the Concierge Lounge!!! Just let in a few squalling brats and presto! Lots of empty seats.:eek::eek:

Too Funny:)

I don't have a problem with children coming in during the day - I didn't know they served lunch in there tho?

I also am wondering what caused Royal to make this decision to allow children in at all times - do you think it really was made strictly on parents complaints?

I agree.

There are enough places for children on the ship.

Why oh why add the CL to that list.

Whats next - the Solarium and the Casino?

As much as I love children (notice my grand-daughter as my avatar) ;)

there are occasion when its just nice to have some ADULT TIME.

Well the answer to why is easy... free drinks! People want them, it's the only place to go with them, and both want to go without options sometimes. I personally wouldn't do it (CL or DL), as I am in agreement that it works best as a non-kids area. But without an alternative to getting free drinks, people will want to bring them.

I agree with others on here that children shouldn't be allowed in the concierge lounge during cocktail hours - they certainly are not allowed in bars - at least in Florida - as soon as happy hour comes around they are asked to leave - love kids to death but they don't belong around a lot of people drinking - telling jokes, etc. Kind of takes away a nice quiet, before dinner drink or after dinner drink atmosphere

I will email our concierge on the Freedom and ask as well about this issue and report back:)

I've watched suite guests tip very well. We always do. We tipped the concierge extremely well on Explorer and he didnt' do anything extra for us.

There are always people who don't tip at all or do so minimally regardless of what class of cabin they are in.

Regardless, I can guarantee you the kids will take up seats. The same parents who complained their precious little ones couldn't come in will say they "paid" for that seat so they can sit there. Imagine if even only 1/2 the suites had one child in them, that would basically take all the seats in the CL pretty quickly.

So, I think our question to Adam should be when do we get to go into the kid's clubs, as a pp mentioned. If these parents truly want fairness and equality, let's see how they feel about that.

The seat thing is accurate. If someone takes their kid into the CL, they will want them to be able to sit if they are staying. Anyone who thinks the kids are going to get up for them are probably wishful thinking, though it does depend on the kid and how crowded it is.

I take my DD to lounges with us sometimes in the evenings (before 10) if there are activities going on (trivia, karaoke, some games). If it's not crowded she sits in her own seat of course. For smaller places, if it gets packed, I will just have her sit on my lap, particularly if we're not going to be there long and it is individual seats. The DL/CL fit that type of area, though I would not be taking her there anyway. This is my choice of course, because they HAVE "paid" for their seat as well as anyone. So if the choice is to sit there, they have as much right as anyone to have it.

Obviously you're never going to the kids club, due to safety issues with adults there. I do have to say I think kids would last longer with their sanity in the CL, casino and solarium then most adults would in the kids club *grin*

I think what RCCL needs to do is find a balance with the drinks/CL, if it's the one spot that has free drinks (and let's face it, many people go there for that reason), then people will want to go to it, with their kids if there are no other ways to do it.

As for seats, this would be a chance for parents to teach their kids manners....get up and let your elders be seated. But manners are a thing of the past for many.

Also, there are safety issues for adults in the CL when kids are running around underfoot. Senior suite guests will be there and if they trip over a running around kid in a crowded lounge.....well, you understand. Safety issues work both ways.

Too bad the concierge may be put in charge of child management issues, possibly offending the suite parent of the sweet kid, when they have to be told to manage their child during the busy cocktail hour.

I'm not sure that matters. There is no significance to who is in the room in terms of cost. It is not a child price, but a 3/4 person price. Who is to say a child is not the second person in the room, paying full fare, and the spouse is the 3rd person sailing at the reduced rate?

The real cost for a family is the total amount to book the room. You can dollar cost average all you want, but 4 people in a suite is still a lot more money the 4 people in a balcony or below.

My gut is yes. There are not many reasons to do it otherwise and risk the complaints of those who want an adult-only atmosphere. They probably had enough complaints from people paying for suites that it was worth making the change.
