TWO4THESEA Posted September 2, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 2, 2011 We've book a western Caribbean cruise in Jan 2012. Does anyone know if you have any internet service on board and what the costs are? Also cel phone service either on board on port side. We'll be on the Equinox 11 nites. chipmaster Posted September 2, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 2, 2011 Internet is available but pricing varies by line and how many minutes you buy. I've not heard one good thing about value or speed, ever. As the ship is at sea the normal speedy service one is experienced to at home is not available. Cell phone is also going to cost you, provided thru the ship. When in port internet and cellphone service will depend on where you go and what your contract supports. spookwife Posted September 2, 2011 #3 Share Posted September 2, 2011 it is EXPENSIVE and it is SLOW on board. each Line has packages you can buy. there is no cell service while underway for the most part, and only if you have an appropriate International plan while in port.. and expect to pay outrageous roaming fees on top. Rare Hlitner Posted September 2, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 2, 2011 Most of the cruise lines charge about 50 cents per minute for internet that is about as slow as the old dial-ups. It can take 5 min to just log onto most sites. This is why most of the crew use internet places or free WiFi when they are off the ship in ports. As to cell service, just about every ship now offers cell service (world wide) through a third party company that works with all the major cell phone providers. As a general rule it would cost you about $2.50 per minutes to use a cell while at sea. When you get within range of the ports they turn off the onboard cell system so you can use whatever they have ashore. In the Caribbean some ports such as St Thomas and San Juan have normal US cell service at regular prices. Hank
