Considering 10 day caribbean on Norwegian Sun..........see where they refurbished it Jan 2011.............added Brazilian steakhouse onboard.

Really need any advice/opinions about this ship/cruise line before I book.

We have only been on two cruises...Royal Caribbean(southern caribbean) & Princess(Panama Canal)

LOVED...Royal Caribbean...........was not as impressed w/Princess.

Thanks all for any advice!!

Last winter we took a 7 day trip on the Sun, convinced by the good price and convenience of departing from Port Canaveral since we winter nearby. We usually sail HAL or Celebrity and we were somewhat nervous about NCL. Well, we had a fine time and will be sailing the SUN again in January. Utter luxury? No, but a nice overall experience.

!!

read the different threads about the SUN...just do a search.

there is an CC member on her now doing posts everyday-check that out.

will be on her in 45 days for my 2nd B2B she is an older ship, the refurbish wasnt so much things you could actually see...more inner workings--i think the suites got a spruce-up and then the addition to Moderno; but they still have the older style tvs which isnt so great-doesnt really bother me!

she was a GOOD ship, despite her breaking down the first week we were on her last December but we still had a GREAT time and she had a WONDERFUL crew!

we also will be doing a B2B on her next year for 3 weeks, so i guess we LIKE her;)

besides the STAR she has my favorite HULL art!!!

one of the BEST things about NCL is FREESTYLE--just look at all the threads on here about that and what people LOVE about it--THE CHOICES ARE YOURS with NCL!!!

Just got off the Sun on Sat Oct 18th and it was our first with NCL.

We did Brazilian on our second sea day, and Teppanyaki on our first sea day. If you have good Brazilian back home, don't try this one you will be disappointed.

Also NCL must have refurbished the wrong ship, because the sun look like its falling apart. First time ever that we were not sad on debarkation day.

Everybody has a different perspective, I guess.

We sailed the Sun in August and thoroughly enjoyed it; have been on most all NCL ships and we would go back on the Sun in a heartbeat.

Nice size, phenomenal crew, great service.

Not the biggest, newest or most hip of the fleet, but very comfortable for us.

Here's a photo tour I posted

OP - it might help those of us who are familiar with Sun to know what it was about RC you "LOVED" and what it was that didn't impress you about Princess.

Where do I begin??? RC had an amazing staff...couldn't find fault w/any of them. The Cruise director was awesome....shows were great & food was excellent.

Not to bash Princess....but the staff was not polite at all...as a matter of fact...most were downright rude. The exception was the cabin stewards & casino/show servers. I did enjoy the cruise director too. I have already talked to Princess about some of my concerns....(they were shared by many other passengers).

anyhow, I do not let those issues ruin a cruise/vacation. Hearing lots of negative reviews about SUN but I can find the positive ones also so just interested hearing what everyone has to say about it.

We sailed the Sun in January on our first cruise ever. We loved the ship and the crew. The Sun is well maintained and while not a huge ship was just the right size in my opinion. Since I don't have any other lines or even other ships for a comparison all I can tell you is that we had a great time. Would I bring a bunch of kids on her, probably not because in my opinion there isn't a lot for them to do but we had fun.

the Brizilian steakhouse on board the sun is AMAZING!! And yes i have one at home.. Liked it so much went back a 2nd night.. also its only 20$ a person.. one at home is 35... Also loved the sun so much I booked again for the week after thanksgiving.. Which will be my 3rd cruise overall.. The Sun is a smaller ship but ive never sailed on anything bigger.. Food is always subjective.. I didnt have a bad meal.. tried some new foods like some didnt like others.. But the wings in the sports bar is AMAZING!

Well, you did not get off the Sun on 10/18 because I was on the Sun in Mexico that day...The cruise ran the 15th to the 23rd...We went to the Brazilian it was great...

Are you sure you went on the Sun, clearly it is not falling apart but in fact a rather nicely appointed ship which is in extremely good shape considering her age....

It seems like this question comes up several times each week. The Sun is a wonderful ship. I have spent 23 nights on her in the last two years doing two amazing itineraries (South America and the Baltic). I love everything about her. The crew is wonderful and friendly. We had a mini suite for South America and an inside for the Baltic. Both were great cabins. I wouldn't hesitate to sail on her again.

Just got off the Sun last week , did the 7 day eastern Caribbean. Had a blast!!!! Staff were excellent our cabin steward Joffrey, went out of his way to make sure we had enough of what we needed. Brazilian Steakhouse was amazing, Le Bistro was by far the best food there. Outdoor Café past the buffet (aft) was a little know area and was great for breakfast. Sunny , great views , made to order omelette's or eggs any style. The same at lunch time as well. Didn't even notice the "chair hogs" there were a few , but not to the extent that I had read here.

DW and I would sail on the Sun again @ the drop of a hat , beautiful ship , well appointed, all staff were amazing at least the ones we encountered.

Go , enjoy yourself, you wont regret it.

cheers..the Ump...:D

We sailed on the Sun for a 9-day Baltic cruise RT Copenhagen in late May/June. Since we love the Dawn, we didn't think we would like the Sun as much. But we did. Had a mid-ship balcony room on the Sun that was the same larger size as the Dawn's mini-suite. Crew was great. Only downside was the Garden Cafe area--half the size of the one on the Dawn. Our TA said the Sun was built for warm climes, but on a Baltic trip in late May....eating breakfast outside isn't an option. Tough finding a table in the cafe (people who got them just kept them, even after finishing eating). We 'discovered' the breakfast at the Brazilian restaurant. It had lots of good choices, and if you wanted something the cafe had, I just went to the cafe, got it, and took it to the Brazilian restaurant. If you cruise during the warmer months, the space problem at the Garden Cafe won't be a problem, as it's so nice eating outside.

I would add, I have never been on an NCL ship that appeared to be falling apart. Even the old Sea (once the Seaward) was in good shape just a few months before she was leaving the fleet. We were on her with 3 other couples, all commented on what good condition she in.
