And, if you can get the time zones coordinated, there's Skype. Even if you can't see each other, it's only 2.3 cents a minute for calling cells and land lines from your laptop/netbook.

 

On most ships Skype and Voip are either disabled or the bandwidth is so slow, that they don't work. Don't count on Skype on any cruise ship.

This would be with free internet. If you can use skype on a ship (many block it), it will be another 30 to 75 cents per minute for the ship.
