newsycruiser Posted December 26, 2011 #1 Share Posted December 26, 2011 I just read a roll call posting that Royal Caribbean does not allow baggage to be walked off in San Juan at the end of a cruise. Does anyone have recent experience with this policy? Thanks..............
SConnolly Posted December 26, 2011 #2 Share Posted December 26, 2011 Oct 2011 Serenade, we took ours with us. No issues back then.
Ocean Boy Posted December 26, 2011 #3 Share Posted December 26, 2011 There were always walk-offs on my several cruises on Adventure out of San Juan. I supposed things could have changed.
phish tales Posted December 26, 2011 #4 Share Posted December 26, 2011 i can't see how anyone can do a 7 day cruise with at least 1 formal night and carry their luggage off by themselves.
cruisenfever Posted December 26, 2011 #5 Share Posted December 26, 2011 i can't see how anyone can do a 7 day cruise with at least 1 formal night and carry their luggage off by themselves. It's called packing efficiently with a minimal amount of shoes. :)
Rala Posted December 26, 2011 #6 Share Posted December 26, 2011 i can't see how anyone can do a 7 day cruise with at least 1 formal night and carry their luggage off by themselves. Dh and I take only 1 carry-on and our personal item each when we do 7 day cruises. And, yes, DH always wears jacket and tie and I wear usually evening pants and sparkly top for formal night. We wear outfits more than once, send a few things to the laundry sometimes, and as the above poster stated, minimum amount of shoes. It really is not that hard to pack efficiently and still look nice! :D

Just getting our stuff off of the ship is a piece of cake.
RCI_FADM_76 Posted December 27, 2011 #8 Share Posted December 27, 2011 We were just of Serenade on 10 Dec. They seemed to discourage the luggage walk off (as they never offered it up as an option on debarkation), but there was no formal enforcement of it. I do even remember commenting to my DW on it the night we received the debarkation instructions. Even so, people were still carrying their luggage off. They don't offer express walk off with luggage on Serenade, because they have a very efficient system for early departures. We had a 10:40 AM flight in May and midweek we took our flight info down to guest relations. You are issued special RED luggage tags and put your bags out the night before as usual. Express departure began at 7:30. We arrived at 7:45 and we were escorted right off the ship. Front and center at the bottom of the escalator were the red tagged bags. We picked up our bags, got in a cab and we were at the airport at 8:15. We sent the bags through agriculture inspection, no line. (I had to watch) Then we checked in and waited for our flight. I was very impressed. :D

frito58 Posted December 27, 2011 #11 Share Posted December 27, 2011 I like that way better than the early debark Carnival had , that was a free for all getting off the ship , everyone cramming their bags on the elevators . We will be on the AOS in 2013 I will feel comfortable booking a noon flight or earlier. I mean we made an 11:30 flight easy off of the Victory it was just kind of a hassle to get down and off the ship with 6 of us.

joyride21 Posted December 27, 2011 #13 Share Posted December 27, 2011 We walked off with our bags on Adventure earlier this month - no problem at all. Also, i can't see how anyone can do a 7 day cruise with at least 1 formal night and carry their luggage off by themselves. I don't understand why anyone would need more than one carry on for only a 7 night cruise, formal wear included. :D To each their own. Do you happen to remember if the "walk-offs" were the first folks off the ship? Just off the AOS yesterday. Walk-offs are not the first off the ship, they give an E-pass to those with early flights and they get priority starting at 7:30. Those with flights between 8-9 go first, then 9-10 etc. We always do self assist off the ship but were told we HAD to put our bags out to participate in this - but found many had large bags with them in the meet-up lounge. We were off the ship by 8 only to find 1 bag, the other missing. We filled out a form and headed to the airport to make our flight. We'll call Miami today in hopes that it turned up. Have a great vacation. We loved the AOS, great ship, great crew, good shows, good food. Fran

This is certainly different than other procedures we've experienced. I've been on AOS several times, and I'm looking forward to a return visit based on your glowing review. Hope your missing bag turns up safely.
frito58 Posted December 27, 2011 #17 Share Posted December 27, 2011 I still like RCI's way better , Like I said I watched debarkation of the Victory as we stayed across the street , Hundreds of locals flocked off the ship first for no other reason they just wanted to get home , and lots of them just hung on the sidewalk outside waiting for rides. At first I thoght it was people waiting to get on , as they were there for a long time I had walked over with a cup of coffee and just watched the whole thing nothing else to do lol and no other port you can really do this it was kind of different . Since you are such an expert packer would you mind sharing your secrets with us and post a packing list so we can fully benifit from your expertise? birdylady Posted December 27, 2011 #19 Share Posted December 27, 2011 It's called packing efficiently with a minimal amount of shoes. :) Ya'll obviously ain't 'fluffy' folks. Question- How long does one have to wait for a cab when they get off AOS? I know when we were in Seattle last year, it was a LONG ride. And we noticed there IF you had a porter take your luggage for you, you went to the front of the line  !!!! Any input would be greatly appreciated as we have a 12:40pm flight in April. We would had to try to be first off the ship if it means killing 3-4 hours at the airport. But we are the type to stress if we are just barely at the airport in time for security/luggage, etc... Thanx. Erika

There will be a taxi coordinator as you exit the terminal. You tell her/him where you want to go. You will get a slip that has the fare on it and you will directed to a cab. We have never had to wait. You should have no problem making a flight at that time. It will be about a twenty minute ride.
