bbwex Posted January 11, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 11, 2012 How difficult will it be to arrange a water taxi from a hotel on the Grand Canal to the airport to make a 6:35 A.M. flight?
euro cruiser Posted January 11, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 11, 2012 Not difficult at all. If you are staying in a hotel have them call and make the arrangements for you. If you need to call yourself, you can read about the different services and find the phone numbers on the city's official tourism web site here: http://www.veniceconnected.com/node/1554 On the same site you can download the fare chart (the second pdf in the list) here: http://www.comune.venezia.it/flex/cm/pages/ServeBLOB.php/L/IT/IDPagina/19521
CruiserBruce Posted January 11, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 11, 2012 6:35am flight? Means being there by 5am at the latest. I would be staying at an airport hotel.
riffatsea Posted January 11, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 11, 2012 No need to stay at the airport. I have done that early morning run by water taxi and it is quick and easy. Let your hotel call. The airport counters don't really open much before 5AM so no need to be there earlier.
CathyCruises Posted January 11, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 11, 2012 Me too. Once again I will recommend the Marriott Courtyard at the airport--nice digs, way less expensive than Venice and perfect for a night before an early flight, complete with free shuttle. One of the best tips I ever got from CC--just passing it along.
mapleleaves Posted January 12, 2012 #6 Share Posted January 12, 2012 If you look down the page a few threads you'll find another post regarding water taxis. One of the replies provided a link to the Consorzio Motoscafi, the water taxi cooperative that provides service 24/7. You can get an estimate or make the reservation on-line. Some hotels add a surcharge when they make the reservation for you, so if nothing else get the estimate online so you know if the hotel is quoting you a fair price. bbwex Posted January 12, 2012 Author #7 Share Posted January 12, 2012 Thanks for the tips and help. DW and I will decide if we want a hotel right in Venice, though we won't appreciate it much as we get off the ship, have that day, and are obviously leaving quite early the next morning, or we take the advise of the Marriott near the airport just for convenience. We just have to deal with our luggage the day we disembark.......

If you decide to stay out near the airport, you can check your luggage for the day at Piazzale Roma, then just pick it up when you are ready to head out to the hotel.
