Live from the crashed Grandeur in Costa Maya

I'd say the "football" sized gash is more CFL (Canadian Football League) sized. We've got bigger balls. Haha...

Photos are on CruiseJournals. The link doesn't work on this board though.

Not sure why some of you are complaining about Costa Maya . . . my friend and I got a couple of really beautiful Tanzanite rings there last year!!!

In all seriousness, though, I'm glad everyone is o.k., and I'd like to thank those of you on the ship who are keeping us informed. Also, thanks for the pictures. Are the pictures from the other ship's boards any different than those posted here? I remember that concrete pier in Costa Maya, so I can see how this could happen, and how little damage could be done to the pier, but extensive damage to a ship.

Good luck to all of you, and I hope the free booze starts flowing soon!

Royal Caribbean just announced special pricing for sailings on the Grandeur... everything will be "Hole-Sale"... Ha Ha Ha.:D

LOL! You reminded me of what my son came home from school with the day the Pope was elected. He wondered if the new Pope would be hounded by Papa Ratzi! LOL

I'm a news producer at a TV station in Houston, looking to talk directly to anyone on board the Grandeur (either by phone or e-mail.) It would really be ideal if there were someone from Houston on board who could respond to this, or to the e-mail address under my profile.

Thanks everyone!

MikeO

I bet your are. Surely there are some ambulances for you to look at in Houston?

Love you guys.....

I, too, was on one of the hurricane cruises. We had to use our 500.00 ( per cabin, not per person) on board credit,, not a problem for us. And had to use the furture cruise discount by Dec 15,05. Blackout dates apply and you must book in the same category cabin as in the original cruise. Each indiviual in the Cabin got the discount. So each could travel when they wanted. We are going on our Future cruise discount cruise May 8th. all 5 of us,, and it really does represent a big savings. We had also comtimplated cancelling

our cruise altogether, but since we didn't have power at home and everything in town was closed down anyway, we decided to go.. HAd a blast!

Good luck

im suppose to be leaving on saturday but the RC rep. said its not expected back till sunday between 7-11am ... but they dont have any information on when & if our cruise is even leaving.......

i'm thinking about switching to carnival, just so i can go on a vacation...

Aren't you in the substantial penalty phase for cancellations. I would get something in writing from RCI saying that you will get 100% of your money back before I cancelled this cruise.

moofus, it sounds like the onboard credits were just that...use onboard or lose. That would suck for us since we don't spend much onboard. Well, at least our tips to the staff are more than adequately covered, and we will have a discount if we cruise next year.

When we were aboard the Splendour ,while cruising the Panama Canal, the narrator told us that the ONLY time that a RCCL ship is not controlled by the ships crew is in the Panama Canal. Ships have to allow the Pilot to navigate the canal. It was also interesting to learn that the mules do not pull the ship through the canal, rather they just keep the ship straight so it doesn't hit the sides of the canal.

I hope everyone gets home safely and hope this hasn't ruined your vacation.

Ambulances are too quick. Cruise ships are much easier to catch! :D

Fisher Lady,

But the only place in the world the piolt has control over a ship is the Panama Canal. In the 5 or 600 cruises I have done The pilot advises the Captain but never touches the controls. The tug boats are only for show they have never been used on the new ships.

Tj

Folks, I double-dog guarantee this is the final and most authoritative word on this topic. Might I mention most of those 500-600 cruises were Mastering a Vision-class and a Voyager-class vessel.

Thanx Captain Bang-Bang. Are you still retired? Do you get a lifetime pass on RCCL?

But there are so many goodies in the gift shops and the liquor store! Worth paying the duty, wouldn't you say? Plus all that logo gear for Christmas presents.

That is so NOT true. The pilot is just that a pilot brings the ship into port and does not leave the ship till it is tied up at the dock. The pilot also takes the ship out of port and then gets on the tug after it is out of the dock area completely.

When we were on the Splendour, when we were at the repeat cruisers get-together, the captain was asked that exact question. He stated that the ONLY time the pilot is completely in charge is going through the Panama Canal. Otherwise the captain is in charge.

Easy - Go into the casino - draw cash on your ship card - go back to the cashier a little later and change your chips to cash ;)

I find it so midleading that RCI reps are telling yall when to expect our return, when our Captain doesn't even know. We received a letter in our staterooms about an hour ago which just reiterates that the Captain said around noon ... they'll have a more definite answer by 6:00 pm today and if the ship isn't going to make it to NOLA this weekend, we have the option for them to take care of our airfare from here on Sat or Sun, or we can stay with the ship until repairs are finished, and then they will take care of our airfare from NOLA.

You know its ashame for you all on the boat. You wait for this vacation, and you spend all this money, just to sit around now and wait to see what is going to happen next. Hope with all of this you are still enjoying yourself. And thanks for the post!

Jen - what is RCI saying about your wedding? Hope everything works out. I suppose if they sail on Sunday, you can still get married then but do you have people coming for the wedding only and have their travel plans made for returning home on Sunday?
