Bad Smell on Carnival Paradise?

Recommended Posts

I am considering a cruise next year on Carnival Paradise. However, upon reading numerous reviews, several people mentioned that Paradise had a "bad smell" to the ship, almost like sewage. I know that you can sometimes get a bit of an odor on Deck 1, but I am a little worried. Both myself and the friend I am cruising with are extremely sensitive to any odd smells (we both get terrible migraines). While the Paradise would fit in well with our travel plans, I don't want to have a headache for my entire cruise. Can anyone tell me if the ship truely does have an "off" smell to it? Has anyone been on it recently that can confirm or deny these reviews. Sorry for the odd question, and I appreciate any honest answers. Thank you.

I've never read one particular ship has a consistent odor and we would have read it on here. Any ship can have water problems, I had them on Triumph once. It just happens. Sewers back up and lower decks I think can get the smell more easily.

I wouldnt worry overly about one ship having a smell consistently. Its always going to happen once in a while.

Just off the Paradise last week. I did not notice any bad smells. She is a really nice ship, just out of dry dock. We really enjoyed the Serenity area and the food was great. I would not hesitate to sail this ship.

Can you elaborate on her drydock updates and post some pics? We sail in a few weeks! Thanks

I just got off the Paradise. 03/01 to 03/05 Tampa to Cozumel. We did not notice any smell and most of the carpet is new. Sunday was really rough though, 60 knot winds and 12 foot seas, the carpet may not be so new now.

We sail in a couple of weeks. Would also like to see some "after drydock" pics. Thanks!

There was a small water issue one day on our Jan cruise and some brief smells came about but nothing too bad.

Yes, Paradise has a Serenity area (even before dry dock) on 9 all the way in back of ship. Great area.

You will always find a "smell" complainer on these boards.

The sewage type smell is not exclusive to a particular ship. It can happen on any ship. If you have an ordor in your cabin, close the drain in the sink. That will usually help.

Some crusiers carry a small gel room deodorizer.

The one and only time we smelled any sewage (and, yes, that's exactly what it was), was on the Destiny. There was a plumbing problem that affected a good portion of the deck we were on. They had to make the repairs which meant they had to open areas that normally remain closed to get to the pipes. The smell didn't last long, but it was noticeable. We had no water while they fixed the problem. But, it wasn't a big deal for us. We just went elsewhere for a couple of hours.

I'm pretty sure this problem can occur on any ship. If they have to make repairs to the plumbing, you'll probably get the sewage smell.

I'm just glad that I'm not the one having to make the repairs! Yuck!

We were just on the Paradise 2-11 to 2-16. We did not notice any type smell around the ship at all.

Other than the amount of smoke around the Casino and the bar right outside the Casino. So if your one of those folks that can't stand smoke stay away from that area. And the bar on the right side of the main pool area (if your facing the front of the ship) Lots of smokers there too.

On the other had our room R57 did have a funny locker room type smell to it.

If we kept the air on in the room it was not nearly as strong but then we would need a coat in the room. They keep this ship COLD....guess to fight that cruise virus that is always popping up.

They did put an ionizer thing in our room one night at dinner and maybe helped a small amount. But they would not use any chemicals or air fresheners??? Not sure of that reason.
