lovezepplin Posted March 20, 2012 #1 Share Posted March 20, 2012 Hello fellow cruisers. Yesterday was another day of smooth sailing. I will start right off by answering a few questions. yes I have seen many passengers with cans of Bud and Bud Light. There doesn't appear to be any problems with the elevators I have not seen the MDR menu even though we are supposed to get one daily, our room steward is....well, lets save that for my final review when I get home. Plenty of entertainment on board, a little something for everyone. The new Piazza is laid out very well and there is always alot of people milling around. Street entertainers were comics and jugglers as well as a string quartet. As I said, a little bit of everything. Last nights big show featured Rick Novell, a physical comedian. Only one word to describe his performance - AWESOME! If anybody reading this has him onboard during your cruise - get to the theater early and get a seat because both shows were filled to capacity. Oh yea, the staff is being a bit more agressive when it comes to the "reserved" seating - if you aren't in that seat before the show starts chances are it won't be available when you do show up. Dinner in the Horizon court kinda sucked last night - same fare as lunch. At least 3 weddings on board judging from the little white bells attached to cabin doors - Captain was a busy man. Only one person was busted for smoking a cigarette in the room (yea, Mr High IQ, like nobody was going to notice the smell in the hallway) And of course, there were the complainers - there is now a designated line at the guest services counter for Elite and Suite guests. And of course I landed right behind a whiner. The guy was angry because he had to share a queen size bed with his wife (NO, I AM NOT KIDDING). He said that the always get and inside cabin with twin beds - duh - he didn't verify the bed configuration when he booked) He droned on and on to the point where the poor girl behind the desk just stared at him. (When he finally left, I offered to throw him overboard) Well, time to go see the sights of Aruba - I will report back Ann

Caribensun Posted March 20, 2012 #5 Share Posted March 20, 2012 Thanks for the update, if you have GS301, we had same problem with the menus, OS cabin steward awesome!! Love the elite suite line, has been around for the last 3 years on the ships we have been on. If you are in L302 would love a review-noisy quiet etc.. Glad you are enjoying the ship for us. Chef Alexander is a great chef, enjoy your Sabatinis breakfast for us.
kywildcatfanone Posted March 21, 2012 #6 Share Posted March 21, 2012 Lovezepplin, thanks for the update. I will keep Rick Novell in mind, hopefully he will be on in two weeks, sounds like fun. lovezepplin Posted March 21, 2012 Author #7 Share Posted March 21, 2012 Well, Aruba was beautiful and hot but there was a gentle breeze that made it bearable to walk around. There was a big Clipper ship docked next to us from Columbia and allowing Princess cruisers board and tour. First time ever doing specialty dining - the new Crown Grill - the food is WONDERFUL and they grill your steaks to perfection. I would suggest trying one of the specialty salts as it really kicks the flavor up a notch. Ship is kind of quiet right now, I guess after two full days at sea and lazing around the pools, tooling around Aruba knocked the pep out of everyone. Entertainment for the masses sucks tonight, some kind of orchestra music in the theater - not my thing. Tonight is SMOKE FREE night in the Casino - amazing job getting the stench out - no trace of the nasty smoke at all. back again tomorrow

suzyed Posted March 21, 2012 #9 Share Posted March 21, 2012 Do you know anything about the mini suite balconies? I have been hearing all kinds of stuff. Would love to see a photo!
lovevacadays Posted March 21, 2012 #10 Share Posted March 21, 2012 Thanks for posting. I wonder if that whiner asked his cabin steward to reconfigure their beds back to singles. Very easy to do.
john_galt Posted March 21, 2012 #11 Share Posted March 21, 2012 I'm beginning to wonder if the 'extended' room service menu is worth the effort. It sounds like it's a struggle. I'm planning on two Ultimate Balcony Dining nights anyway...
cool cat cruiser Posted March 21, 2012 #12 Share Posted March 21, 2012 Hi from UK' Glad you are enjoying your cruise. We are going on Grand this year '. Could you answer a few questions please. Are booked on baja deck midships. Could you tell me what furniture there is on the balcony and if it includes footstalls. If not can you request these? Are we able to ask for a mattress topper ? Regarding the sanctuary are you able to book this when boarding or the evening before each visit? is it worth going to? Whats the movement of the ship like since the refurbishment. Is it stable. Many thanks.

lovezepplin Posted March 21, 2012 Author #14 Share Posted March 21, 2012 Do you know anything about the mini suite balconies? I have been hearing all kinds of stuff.Would love to see a photo! Well, they are still there - lol - just kidding ya! Some of them have the newer chairs and tables and some still have the white plastic and they have the floors painted blue. Cool Cat Cruiser - I believe there is a new thread on here regarding the NEW rules for booking time in the Sanctuary. I personally have no use for the place since I have a big AFT Suite balcony. I guess it is all a matter of preference (my preference would be that if I have a balcony, why pay the extra for the privledge of sitting on a lounge chair) . Yes you can request the egg crate cushions for your bed but you may want to call Princess customer service and inquire about reserving one. As for the ship itself, we have enjoyed very, very calm seas this week with no rain. The Grand handles beautifully and we feel just the normal rocking . Mysweetness - MUTS sucks - at least this week - I personally was hoping to see Puss-N-Boots but no luck. Not too many hanging out under the big screen at night and it has been mostly concerts or kids movies - neither of those are any interest to me. I will check back later
monakayk Posted March 21, 2012 #15 Share Posted March 21, 2012 :confused:Is the new pizza place:Alfredo's (think that's it's name) FREE or is there a charge to eat pizza there? :confused:What about the new Library-Tea Room? I think there is a charge right? About how much is one of the specialty teas?
Caribensun Posted March 21, 2012 #16 Share Posted March 21, 2012 Glad you enjoyed Aruba. If Cristin is your cabin steward you should be getting what you need, he was awesome for us. Love you large aft balcony it is the best! Sorry they are not showing good movies on MUTS, our 2 cruises-best MUTS movies we have ever had on a ship. Enjoy the weather. lovezepplin Posted March 21, 2012 Author #19 Share Posted March 21, 2012 Monakayk, there is no charge for pizza but you can't take it with you either. The IC has these little cup cakes, a diffetent flavor each day, and they are yummmmmmmy. The library is more opened and is combined with the tea room. Sorry I do not know the cost of the teas since I don't drink it but I will try to get some info for you before Saturday Curacao is a gem. Only in port until 1:00 as the HAL Westerdam was right behind. There is only one pier that the locals refer to as mega dock so only one ship in port at a time. Off to find something to eat

Bflinner Posted March 22, 2012 #21 Share Posted March 22, 2012 Can you tell me if the Tea at the new "Leaves Tea lounge" are free? Or is there an extra charge?
Palmist Posted March 22, 2012 #22 Share Posted March 22, 2012 I was on the week of Feb. 25 to March 3. The pizza at Alfredo's is to die for so don't miss it. No charge and delicious. Pool side pizza OK but nothing compared to this one. Leaves, the tea place was empty every single time I went by there. and there is a charge. MUTS was great, had good movies and Academy Awards. The bed sucked. So hard I got a hurt back and had to go to the Chiro when I got home. Someone told me after the fact I should have asked for 2 extra blankets and laid them on top of the sheet for extra padding. I will next time if I ever go on a ship with hard beds. Food was good to fair on the Grand. It is an older ship and it felt tired to me. Just one person's opinion. Had a wonderful cruise anyway. Went with the flow. Crzn-Life Posted March 22, 2012 #23 Share Posted March 22, 2012 :confused:Is the new pizza place:Alfredo's (think that's it's name) FREE or is there a charge to eat pizza there? :confused:What about the new Library-Tea Room? I think there is a charge right? About how much is one of the specialty teas? On the Grand now. The cruise has been really really nice. Alfredo's is free. The pizzas are quite good with very generous toppings. They will also accomodate requests to change the toppings, i.e. mix and match so you don't have to stick precisely with the what's on the menu. Leaves Tea Room and Library is open and there is a charge for the tea. Serving times are listed daily in the patter. We've seen people in there drinking tea every day, however most of the people are in there to use the library for games and reading. The server is there at the times listed. john_galt Posted March 22, 2012 #24 Share Posted March 22, 2012 I sailed on the Grand in 2003 and will sail her again on the 31st. It will be very interesting to see how she has changed. I've sailed on sister ships before but this will be my first time to sail the same ship twice. :)
kywildcatfanone Posted March 22, 2012 #25 Share Posted March 22, 2012 We sailed on the Grand several years ago, and again in December. We are also booked on her in two weeks. Obviously we like the ship. The dry dock last year really updated the atrium area, it might now be the best looking Piazza on any Princess ship I've been on. We had a great cruise in December, and expect the same coming up. Mike
