Carnival Freedom 3/10-3/18-a different perspective

March 9th-

We booked Park N Go prior to the cruise. This was great!!! It was $69.78 total for 8 days. We had 2 cars that we parked there. We arrived at 10:30, they were busy but hustling to get everyone to the port. We had a TON of luggage between all of us. We parked and a van came up and the driver loaded all of our luggage onto the van and off we were to the port. This took a few minutes to get everything situated. We tipped him when we got to the port, and then tipped the porters that took our luggage from him.

Can you tell me more about who you booked with? Is this at the airport?

Would love a copy of the fun times dmmosley@bellsouth.net .. Cruising the Freedom 04/21/2012 . Thanks your your great perspective :)

Well be there too! Have you been over in the roll call?

Actually it was La Romana, the next day. It was done in the main showroom in 2 "shifts".

Thanks! Appreciate the info! I assume your invitation tells you which shift to arrive at?

That would be correct. I must say it was probably the most under attended PGP I've been to in a while.

Lots of elbow room and no waiting for the trays.

You are doing a great job on the review. I have not been brave enough tackle one yet. We are going out of Ft. Lauderdale on the Freedom in May. First time out out of Fort Lauderdale. The cost you quoted for the parking was that for one car or both cars?

Can't wait to read the rest of your review!

I booked through Park N Go directly. I originally thought it was at the airport, but when we go there I realized I was wrong. It's close to the pier, but not covered. Below is their address.

Park 'N Go Of Ft. Lauderdale

1101 Eller Drive

Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33316

I-595 East to PORT EVERGLADES exit, then first left

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SERVING YOU!

Nice review.

Thanks! :)

Thank you! I was nervous about starting a review, but so far everyone has been nice to me. The price I quoted was for one car. I highly recommend them, they were so great to deal with!

Thanks for clearing that up! I asked my sister, she takes better notes than me, but she never responded.

You all cleaned up well! Fabulous looking in your finerie! :D

Thank you!!! :D

Just a couple of random thoughts before starting Grand Turk:

We did the Behind the Fun tour on the last day. I'll post details about it later, but I forgot to mention that as soon as we boarded the ship, we headed to the Excursion desk. There was no line, which was nice, and when we asked if there were any spots available the girl said almost all of the spots were open for the tour! We were so excited, this was the only excursion we really wanted to do. We received our tickets on the first sea day.

The nightlife was lame. Not so much for me and my husband, but for my 2 single brothers, they were very disappointed. The 70's disco played awful (my brothers opinion) music from 11-12 (motown, michael jackson night, etc.) and then after that the DJ played a loop of cheesy dance music every night. The list was the same each night. The standard songs were played MANY times. Cupid shuffle, electric slide, YMCA. My brothers like dubstep, which not many people enjoy, but the DJ flat out refused to play any in the beginning of the cruise. This disappointed Joe so much so that he wrote a complaint letter to Carnival.

We noticed a lack of people our age. The crew said it was because we chose an 8 day Southern cruise, which normally attracts a more..mature..crowd. We did notice this, especially in the casino. There was no in between for us, either they were young kids, or older families. Not a problem for my husband and I, but my brothers were looking to make some friends. We thought since we were going during Spring Break there would be a more lively crowd, but Irish George said you find that more on the 3/4 day cruises.

My husband and I don't like the process or idea of "smuggling", so we bought a TON of bar coupons and brought 2 bottles of wine on board. I love the coupons, I know I don't save much money, in fact I had so many $1.73 charges to my account because I like the "fruity" drinks which cost more than the coupon, but I still feel like I'm saving since it's all prepaid. My brothers emptied out shampoo/conditioner/gold bond bottles and filled them with vodka (I'm not joking!), my sister and brother in law stuck a bottle of Jack and a bottle of vodka in their luggage. None of it was confiscated. Just wanted to share that experience.

I also felt like the nightly activities were kind of boring. The karaoke wasn't offered as much as I'm used to seeing, the movies outside were old and boring, and after the 2 comedians left the ship, it got even more boring. We managed to still have fun on our own, I just think they started skimping on their list of things to do, or maybe we were just being too picky. :)

Also, I emailed the Fun Times to everyone that asked. If I missed you, please let me know!

Monday March 12th-Grand Turk

We decided to do a beach day in Grand Turk. How original right? Last year, my husband and I did the dune buggy tour through Carnival and we really loved it. We saw the entire island, saw the "wild" donkeys, and had a lot of fun.

This time around we decided to just sit at the beach right next to the pier. We were going to head down to Jacks Shack, I really wanted to see what all the fuss is about, but when everyone else saw the chairs waiting they all just decided to plop down. We got off the ship pretty early and took a front row of chairs, closest to the water. Apparently, people are inconsiderate, who knew? After we were settled in our chairs, people started dragging their chairs around and positioned them right in front of my husband. Eddie's toes were practically touching the kids head that was in front of him! I looked at the kid and I said "you're kidding me right?! you're not staying there". I guess I could have been kinder, but I was so shocked at this family. They couldn't care less that they were intruding on our personal space. The whole beach was open but they had to sit right on top of us. That same family also didn't care that they were stepping in some poor kids hole that he had been digging for a long time. We got to watch them do a photo session right in front of us for a good 15 minutes. They were so annoying! Soon we noticed a lot of people moving their chairs around, I don't know if this is what you're supposed to do, but I felt like the cruise passengers left the place a wreck!

Besides that little disturbance, we had a pretty nice day. We laid out until around 11, then we went looking around the shops and went back to the ship. Eddie and I hung out on the secret deck for awhile, just people watching and taking pictures. We met up with Jake and got some drinks on Lido until it was time to go to dinner.

At dinner, Chaz the magic man stopped by and amazed us all with his tricks. We LOVED him! Just found out he is transferring to the Ecstasy, I would go on that ship just to watch him do magic. After dinner, we went to watch the comedian, Steve White, one last time before he left the ship. He was just as funny the second time around.

Joe talked us all into doing the laser tag in the Victoriana Lounge. It was $5 per person, and they let you go in groups of 3. They had a big, enclosed blow up maze on the stage. We were by far the oldest people doing this! Jake, Joe, and Jim were in one group, Kristyl, Eddie and I were in the second group. This was absolutely exhausting! We didn't realize how out of shape we all are until we started running/bouncing in circles for 5 minutes. The 3 boys admitted to just laying down after about a minute in the maze. I managed to stay up the entire time, just running around like a lunatic. I lost, by a lot. It was a different experience, and turned out to be a lot of fun!

Wiped out from the day in the sun and the 5 minutes of laser tag, we called it a night. Tomorrow we were going to La Romana!

Jules---Love your review. I'm a little worried about the lack of activities!

Please email me the fun times!! Thanks.

I'll send those right over! I really think we were kind of picky this time around. When my husband and I went on our honeymoon, I never felt "bored". It was easier for us, since we weren't looking for people to meet, we could do anything and just be happy. My brothers were looking for a different experience...lol Also, we didn't go to any of the shows, and that seemed to be the big entertainment for this cruise.

Loving your review :) Love the "Windy" pics, very cute!

Can you please send me the Fun Times

to estymeetup@aol.com

thank you

Oh....I hate to say.....I will LOVE LOVE the Motown/Michael Jackson in the Disco...(ouch, yeah I am a lot older than you guys LOL):p

Your brothers might enjoy the Liberty ....it may be a more lively 7 night cruise, especially with the New Pubs on the Lido....Imagination is a fun short cruise, lots of younger people on it, more party...NCL is also really a good ship for Party Party...they have a great White Hot Party on deck on every cruise.

I'm sorry, I'm not trying to argue with you, but I thought at the end Brad tried to talk everyone into booking an excursion for DR and he said that if u don't there's nothing really to do there. This was after the screen had malfunctioned and we couldnt watch the movie thing. If that was true then the party would've been on Monday grand turk day.. ?

Another request for the Fun Times! Loving your review and perspective. We are doing this for our youngest sons college graduation and will have ages 4-58 covered! The good news is that his older brothers will be along for entertainment if they can't find any on the ship :)

Rot ro! This sounds like us, pushing 50 and not very rowdy! We should fit in just fine on the June 30th, 8 nighter!

Thanks for the reviews!

I have the Fun Times loaded on my computer, but I'm not sure what the best way is to get them out to you all. I think it'd be easiest to just email the PDF to whoever wants them.

I am missing the last day's Fun Times. :( I have no idea what happened to the little tear out piece. I'll continue to search and if I find it I'll share it.

If you want the PDF, just let me know your email and I'll send it along. :)

I would love if you could email me copies of your fun times (we are on this ship, this itinerary on June 2nd).

BlueNEeyoreMom@aol.com (please put Freedom Fun Times in the subject line), thanks in advance (awesome review so far - I'm still on page two). :D
