Century Sky Suite 1201

Due to a very poor travel agent, and empty promises, we ended up in an accessible sky suite. That doesn't bother me, but the potential noise does. Anyone have any experience with this cabin. I doubt if it will get changed for our Alaska cruise June 3rd. Thanks.

If you decide to get a different room let me know, our friends, one of which uses a walker and has mobility issues, are on a waiting list for an accessible sky suite for June 3 so they can join us. :)

I just called Celebrity and told them I would be happy to pay the difference to move to a different suite since this is an accessible one, which we do not need. They said they were all full.

It would appear that the suites are booked. Our friends would take a regular sky suite if there were no accessible ones available. Just a few weeks ago I noticed there were still suites left and they decided they would like to join us and made a call to the Celebrity rep. that we used, left a few messages and he didn't return their calls. By the time I found out they were waiting for him and not asking for another rep, the suites were all booked. They put them on a waiting list but it's getting kind of late since the cruise is only a little over 2 weeks away, for arranging flights etc. I didn't realize the balconies were a bit smaller on the accessible rooms.

The TA that we got rid of made all kinds of promises, and well, we got rid of her. I am sorry about your friends.

We were in 1201 as our family member is in a wheelchair and requires an accessible stateroom. We did hear noise, especially from the band. The jogging track sometimes had some early morning runners, but it was only on a couple of mornings there was a lot of running noise.

If you are not in need of the accessible features so that you have to have this cabin, then you would certainly want another sky suite if you had a choice. The bathroom has a roll in shower because of the need for the wheelchair, so there is no whirlpool tub. The fold down shower chair is old and small and we had to call maintenance to repair it when we first came into the cabin as part of it was off the wall. The balcony is smaller than the other 12th deck balconies and because you are on the port side (the smoking side), cigarettes get thrown on the balcony (along with other trash from the pool deck above, such as napkins). There is no privacy unless you are very close to the door as not only do people peer around the bulkhead, but those standing on the pool deck can look down.

But it didn't make much difference to us, though, because, although this was an accessible stateroom, there was no ramp out to the balcony and the balcony doorway was several inches higher than the balcony so that there was no way to roll a wheelchair back and forth. We reserved the sky suite because there are no accessible balcony staterooms on the Century except for the two accessible sky suites, but it was not until day five of our cruise that we were able to get a ramp put out there. I would be very interested in knowing whether or not there is a ramp out to the balcony on your cruise. Please email me at kacruiser@sbcglobal.net and let me know.

BTW, there was only one lounger on our balcony and both the cabin steward and butler claimed that they could not bring another. Again, it didn't make much difference until day five when we got the ramp. After that, I used self help and brought a lounger from the pool deck. The cabin steward didn't say anything. So if you only have one lounger and the cabin steward and butler tell you no, just go out to the pool deck and bring one onto your balcony yourself.

We do not need this cabin for the accessible features, and frankly were not very pleased to have it assigned. I am very concerned about the noise, but when I called celebrity yesterday nothing else was available. Not quite sure what to do about it.

We have not cruised celebrity for 6 years due to a bad cruise that kind of put us off. However after cruising the "luxury" lines, Silversea was in April and a horrible trip, we have decided that celebrity would be a better fit.

Any suggestions?

Maybe there is a concierge class cabin available instead, and perhaps they could give you the difference in OBC.

I would still keep trying to contact Celebrity. They should be able to help you. Better still is your travel agent, if you used one. Ours (Pat Webb from Galaxy Cruises) is amazing.

BTW, why was Silversea so horrible? We were thinking of trying them some day.

We had 1201. Same accessible suite, opposite side. Although there are signs posted everywhere on the outside deck above specifically saying "No Jogging", people were constantly running up there, and it at times, it sounded almost as if they were going to come through our ceiling! We had to call & complain almost daily. Of course, by the time they sent someone up there, the runners had finished their "morning workouts". That said, we did not hear noise from the pool area, unless we were outside on the balcony.

I will call Celebrity again, but it is somewhat frustrating. I did have a travel agent, name will go unmentioned who said to book the suite guarantee because there were 3 available and I would get one of them. So I booked it, and should have just booked the suite on the celebrity website and forgotten about saving a few bucks. Finally she released the booking to us, after we ended up in a cabin that she "promissed we would not get"........

Not sure I will use a TA again, and I think this is about the 30th cruise.

Why was Silversea horrible. Well, for a perdiem rate of $700 pp per day you should have great food, your sheets changed more often than every three days, you shouldn't have to ask for anything. Well, the food was very poor.....the fish wasn't even fresh. It was just overall a disappointing experience to say the least. Our TA did a good job however, and I like him. It wasn't his fault that Silversea experience was poor. We had gone on Crystal the year before, nice and excellent food, Seabourn was very nice, and Regent also. However, are they worth the tremendous difference in price? I really am not sure, and so we are coming back to Celebrity.

I would book two Celebrity cruises in a suite before I would go once on Silversea. We were not even in a suite (well they call all the cabins that) but it was the lowest category just above the window ones. For that kind of money I do expect it to be really special, and frankly I am so irritated. Like most people we work hard for our money and when we spend it, we expect a certain level of service. It didn't exist.

We have 1201.....I thought the issues with the joggers was resolved. Apparently not.

That is surprising for a $700 per day luxury cruise. Wow! you do deserve better for that price.

We took a highly discounted Crystal Cruise last year. It was worth every penny. There is a reason Crystal ALWAYS wins for best ship, in most every survey we've seen. The food is out of this world good.:)

We enjoyed Crystal. The food was excellent, so was the entertainment. If you want to do some reading go over to the silversea board. They think they are pretty important. You cannot even say anything about their ships without people coming down your throat. Smoking is also a problem. The main bar had one side as smoking, and as you know the whole room might as well have been as it was unbearable.

One last comment about that trip, the company is Italian owned, and the wife of the owner has some special charity that they charge a donation on your bill of $6 per person without telling you. I called them and said that charity is a freely given donation, not one put at the bottom of your bill so you do not notice it. It has something to do with the wife's deceased sister, but frankly that is wrong, nice money maker though.

Thanks for the head's up. Silversea may not be for us.

As much as I did like Crystal, I do believe they still have a very lenient smoking policy. We could smell smoke residue in our room, and there were ashtrays. I wonder if you can request a non-smoking room.

Smoking really bothers us.

I lost my dad to Lung Cancer. :( He started smoking in his early teens and could never break the habit/addiction.

Wife and I were former smokers, but are smoke free now for a couple decades. I can relate to what smokers are going through in terms of their individual rights and what not, but we are highly sensitive to the smoke smell. We can hang in a smoke filled casino, for a little while, but not too long.

LOL -- when we first cruised Celebrity, I was blown away by the concept of a totally smoke-free casino! Although DH and I are not big gamblers, we do enjoy the time we spend there. Our recent Century cruise had two slot-pulls planned by our roll-call members. We came close to breaking even both times, and everyone had a a lot of fun! I haven't ventured into a casino on RC in years (except to hold my breath as I run through).
