dizzy205 Posted May 7, 2005 #1 Share Posted May 7, 2005 UPDATED STATEMENT Miami – Saturday, May 07, 2005 -- Norwegian Dawn encountered some adverse weather conditions on its return from the Bahamas and as a result will be delayed arriving into New York, until the early morning of Monday, May 9, at approximately 3 a.m. As a result of this delay, NCL has cancelled the one-night May 8 cruise. Passengers booked on the May 8 cruise will receive a full refund and a 50 percent future cruise credit certificate for the amount they paid for the cruise. Additionally, NCL will be doubling that cruise credit certificate for a selection of cruise dates out of New York. Guests should contact their travel agent or NCL for a list of applicable dates. Passengers booked on the cruise and their travel agents are being contacted to inform them of the cancellation. Norwegian Dawn’s May 9 cruise will commence according to schedule. NCL sincerely regrets any disappointment this weather related cancellation may have caused. Guests aboard the vessel will be invited to remain on the vessel until Monday morning and we are aiming for disembarkation to commence as early as 6 a.m., for guests who have commitments on Monday morning. This schedule will be finalized once the arrival time is firmly established during this evening and possibly tomorrow morning.

theduffys Posted May 8, 2005 #3 Share Posted May 8, 2005 Is it possible that they have sailed the ship way out around the storm to avoid the critisism from the last storm?
dizzy205 Posted May 8, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted May 8, 2005 who knows! I was so looking forward to getting my Mom onboard! She was even excited! This so stinks  I am looking at my documents and pouting :( I just realized that I spelled cruise wrong--I guess in my haste...and sadness...well I am sure you all can forgive me. 2Cruise4Ever Posted May 8, 2005 #7 Share Posted May 8, 2005 The Dawn is now scheduled to arrive tomorrow (Sunday) at 5:00 p.m. The seas have calmed and they are picking up spead. The Mother's Day cruise is still canceled :(
Gypsea Posted May 8, 2005 #8 Share Posted May 8, 2005 you are saved from going on a short sail but look at it this way....One night is NOT enough. Now you can book a week holiday for your mom and do the Dawn up right. You really must. It is a great ship. I think the short cruises are a waste. You are lucky this happened. REALLY. I sailed the Dawn once with my daughter and then took the rest of my kids. They all loved it and you will to. So many sailings don't fill up that you will find a great week to use your certificate on. Happy Mothers Day! Cheer up, Rita
Galley Girl Posted May 8, 2005 #9 Share Posted May 8, 2005 Hey Gypsea, How ya doing? Remember when we were trying to keep each others threads on page one. That seems like such a long time ago but I remember it well. Things happen for a reason and Im not going to question it but It just BLEEPS for now. I hate it when I get so up about something and then it falls apart. Oh well like shoreguy says SHIP HAPPENS! Do you have any trips on the horizon? MrPete Posted May 8, 2005 #10 Share Posted May 8, 2005 .well I am sure you all can forgive me. Of course, but it's now a good thing you have another cruise to look forward to on Friday! Disappointing for your parents, though, I'm sure! Try and look on the bright side. Now you don't have to hit the NY piers three times in one week! See you on the Lido deck at the end of the week (unless our ship gets delayed!)
dizzy205 Posted May 8, 2005 Author #11 Share Posted May 8, 2005 Thanks MrPete! I checked again this morning, still no Dawn in port :( I quickly made alternate plans for Mom and us :p I called the Borgata in Atlantic City, like my DH suggested, and took advantage of the comp rooms we have, so we will still have a good Mother's day! My Mom was so dissapointed, she was really looking forward to this. She was all geared up, taking this chance knowing that she has huge motion issues....Well, she booked at least, so next time we have an opportunity to do something like this, she will not hesitate. Everything happens for a reason, that is the way I always look at things, so whatever the reason, it most likely is a blessing. Better things to come! BirthdayCruiser50 Posted May 8, 2005 #15 Share Posted May 8, 2005 Good morning almost-cruisers and Happy Mother's Day... Got up this morning, got all dressed and ready, and just happened to log on to NCL to see if there were any further delays. Cancelled??!! What a disappointment. My mom can't go on a full cruise - doesn't want to be away from my dad that long (they're both elderly) and there are medication problems, so this was it. Not only that - what if we'd been running behind schedule and didn't have time to check the 'Net before boarding our train to NYC this morning? (We live near Albany.) Now that would have been fun, all the way the NYC to fight Mother's Day crowds, and discover the cruise was cancelled. I have to say, right now I am not real enamored of NCL. This was going to be my "test run" for their ships and cruises and right now I am less than thrilled with them. OK, we get a refund, and a coupon towards a future cruise - but as I said, Mom can't cruise a full week. I also had to pay a 10% penalty to cancel our train tickets. Sorry to unload on you guys, but what a turn-around this day has taken. Hope those of you who have put together alternate plans have fun! Carol D. dizzy205 Posted May 8, 2005 Author #16 Share Posted May 8, 2005 We you are right, we were packed! We had to go somewhere!!! I think I will make reservations at the Old Homestead in the Borgata. My husband took me there for my birthday, it was super fantastic. My mom will love it! You will find me at the poker room after dinner....I will be at the 2-4 holdem table! Enjoy your Mom's day! Who knows, we may win big tonight. I was reading on the Princess board that the Golden Princess will be delayed as well. She was supposed to be in port with the Dawn. She should be in port tomorrow at I think 7:30am! That is supposed to be a transatlantic trip, and one person said they will miss the port of Dublin  because of the delay. That stinks for them. A few weeks ago, it was all criticism b/c they allegedly hurried up to get back to NYC for a promotional event, now b/c they are late .... all because of weather which last I checked was out of their control! BirthdayCruiser50 Posted May 8, 2005 #25 Share Posted May 8, 2005 Trina LC...yes, it's very true that the weather is beyond their control, but I still reserve the right to be annoyed and disappointed. There is noplace nearby I could take my mother on such short notice to produce the special weekend we had looked forward to for months, and we ended up going to the mall. So the weekend was a washout and we are both royally disappointed. If having a special event like this pulled out from underneath you doesn't bother you, then that's wonderful, and I'm envious of your ability to bounce back from disappointment. (Said without any sarcasm whatsoever.) I don't intend to raise any kind of a stink, or sue anyone - that's just above and beyond a normal reaction. But right now NCL is just not my favorite organization in the world, and I'm not ashamed of feeling that way, or saying it. There just seem to be so many things that can go wrong with a cruise vacation. It's way too "iffy" of a situation for me. I think my upcoming vacation plans will stick to dry land.
