svm8 Posted September 27, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 27, 2012 I am looking for an all-in-one type makeup "kit" or pallete that would be easy to pack for our upcoming cruise and other vacations. I have bought kits like this from Avon in the past, but wasn't thrilled with the color selection. I would love to find something with eye shadow, blush and powder included and if it had lip color, even better. Any suggestions?:)

I would love to find something with eye shadow, blush and powder included and if it had lip color, even better. Any suggestions?:) Hi there, I love these kits as they are the best for travelling. I have a wonderful one which I bought duty free on Singapore Airlines in October and which I save just for travelling. It contains six eyeshadows (a nice colour selection), a cream foundation, blusher, pressed powder, three really nice lipsticks, a lip liner, a kohl pencil, a mascara, blush brush, two eyeshadow/lipstick brushes, and a small powder puff. It comes in a lovely two-tiered black plastic case which slips into a velvet bag, and has a lovely good-sized mirror. Over the years I have bought various of these kits, but I would have to say the Lancome one leaves the rest for dead and will certainly be going with me in January. Oh, and buying it at a duty free store or onboard the airline saves a few dollars as well. Cheers :)
sherilyn70 Posted September 27, 2012 #3 Share Posted September 27, 2012 The color selections on the smaller ones are always going to be more standard colors and nothing daring. I've bought several of the Avon ones you've mentioned in the past since it had everything including lip pencils included in them. Ulta and Sephora both make kits like this as well but they are typically larger and a bit more expensive than Avon's kits... you may want to check those out instead. Here are just a few to start.... they will become more prevalent as Christmas approaches as they make appealing gifts. http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod3490123 http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?skuId=2231050&productId=xlsImpprod3280307&navAction=push&navCount=1 http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod4470001 http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod4690163&skuId=2250912 http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod4690175 http://www.sephora.com/urban-luxe-mini-bag-makeup-palette-P374273 http://www.sephora.com/master-class-11-meet-the-masters-palette-P375452

Happy ks Posted September 27, 2012 #5 Share Posted September 27, 2012 Trish McEvoy sells a makeup kit where you buy your own colors and add those to the kit. I've had one for about 5 years now, I can change colors in it, just pop out the magnetized palettes. They do sell powder, blush and a whole lot of eye shadow colors. Mine also came with travel sized makeup brushes, it was a specialty gift item similar to this:http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/trish-mcevoy-voyager-collection-glamorous-beauty-palette/3374557?origin=category&contextualcategoryid=0&fashionColor=&resultback=174 but I chose my own colors. Mine is not only used for travel, I work a second job and don't go home in between, so I take it with me twice a week. I'll just add I don't care for the kits that include lip color or gloss, as those always get gummed up with powder. I find I'd rather have a small lipstick for evenings so I don't have to take a whole makeup kit along with me.
svm8 Posted September 28, 2012 Author #6 Share Posted September 28, 2012 Thank you so much for the suggestions! I think something like this will simplify my packing and conserve space in the small ship bathroom.
Froufie Posted September 28, 2012 #7 Share Posted September 28, 2012 Try ebay for some gorgeous dior pallettes (I got one for travel just a while ago): http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHRISTIAN-DIOR-Cannage-Couture-Collection-Day-to-Night-All-Over-Makeup-Palette-/320913661810?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab7f1df72 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Christian-Dior-Glow-Designer-Nude-Makeup-Palette-Essentials-with-Brushes-Blush-/320927237018?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ab8c1039a http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHRISTIAN-DIOR-Cannage-Couture-Collection-Day-to-Night-All-Over-Makeup-Palette-/230857505352?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35c02dfa48 http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Christian-Dior-DTrick-make-up-palette-compact-w-6-eye-shadows-more-/110957170271?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19d5900e5f http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dior-Holiday11-Celebration-Collection-MULTI-LOOK-MAKEUP-PALETTE-/130768711306?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e726c2e8a http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHRISTIAN-DIOR-DIORISSIME-MAKEUP-PALETTE-NEW-IN-SEALED-BOX-/270960277067?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f167db64b http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHRISTIAN-DIOR-TRAVEL-IN-DIOR-MAKEUP-PALETTE-BRAND-NEW-BOXED-/320761489357?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aaedfe7cd http://www.ebay.com/itm/DIOR-Glow-Designer-Nude-Glow-palette-makeup-cosmetic-kit-set-/200789368092?pt=UK_Health_Beauty_Make_Up_Sets_LE&hash=item2ebffa9d1c

CELTICGIRLCRUISER Posted October 2, 2012 #9 Share Posted October 2, 2012 If you are coming through an airport, the duty free section usually has travel pallets with everything in - shadow, blush, lips and sometimes mascara. I use Chanel makeup but used to buy the Dior pallets as they were always alluring and pulled me in:D
Kilnwood Posted October 3, 2012 #10 Share Posted October 3, 2012 Thank you to all who posted here for all your great suggestions! I've become inspired by reading these posts, and I'm grateful that all of you have done work for me that would have been very time consuming if I had attempted it myself..... HAPPY CRUISING!! kitty9 Posted October 4, 2012 #11 Share Posted October 4, 2012 On board the ship, I've gotten some really great kits for good prices. I found some Dior and other kits for a lot less than at home.

I had a great, compact, kit that I loved and saved for travel--we usually cruise about 3 times a year. The last time I got it out to use, some of the products had turned kind of rancid--had to throw the whole thing away. Very disappointing! OK, I confess, I'd had it for several years. It was some random brand I had bought on sale, so I couldn't replace anything.

We tend to go away for weekends quite a bit, just to the wineries area in the south west of this state, and I always take it then, so it does get used fairly regularly. I've got a Dior one as well, but that is just eyeshadow, whereas the Lancome has everything I need. All I have to do is throw in a couple of travel size cleansers and moisturisers and it's done. I think we're all in danger of hanging on to make-up too long, though. I think I've probably got nail polishes that fashionable when we were all sporting Princess Di haircuts. :)
awlpa55 Posted October 5, 2012 #14 Share Posted October 5, 2012 While I am also a fan of the Lancome sets, my daughters travel with a Mary Kay Compact, which colors specific for each of them. Place for lip and brushes included.
Happy ks Posted October 5, 2012 #15 Share Posted October 5, 2012 What I love about my Trish McEvoy compact is that I can change colors. The palette is magnetic and I just pop in/out the colors I want to take along. And no goopy lipstick/gloss full of eye shadow dust. I did get a lovely Lancome palette onboard on my last cruise but it was only eye shadow colors. I've used it almost every day since (I'm back only a week or so). I did notice the Dior kits onboard and they were pretty. I considered it for about 30 seconds, then thought about the lipstick/gloss thing. If only they didn't add those, I'd snap one up. CELTICGIRLCRUISER Posted October 5, 2012 #16 Share Posted October 5, 2012 Your right to be concerned about the kits going off. I did a post on one of the other threads recently about bacteria and not hanging onto any type of makeup for too long as they are an absolute breeding ground.
