catl331 Posted October 4, 2012 #2 Share Posted October 4, 2012 first time HAL cruise coming up - any tips on what entertainment not to miss? Thanks! That's awfully hard to say, because except for the production show cast, the rest of the entertainers are changing constantly. Even someone who sails the week before you may not see the same comedian/magician/whatever act as you get.
Krazy Kruizers Posted October 4, 2012 #3 Share Posted October 4, 2012 You have what HAL now calls "production" show in the Show Room -- usually 2 per seven day cruise. There will be a comedian or two. The HAL Cats will sometime put on a show in the Queens Lounge. They also will by the Lido for about an hour around luncch time. They will play at a couple of sail-aways -- especially on embarkation day. In the Explorer's Lounge there will be a string trio or quartet playing in the evenings. There will be a 3 piece group playing in the Ocean Bar starting around 6 PM. There is also The Northern Lights which opens at 9 playing disco music for dancing -- and other types of music as well. And sometimes there is a guitarist that plays in the Crows Nesst -- late in the evening -- varies by ship.

jtl513 Posted October 4, 2012 #5 Share Posted October 4, 2012 they had a nice piano bar that we really like also Yes, and whoever is there tends to stay for a longer stretch than the comedian/magician/etc. They don't "use up" their material so quickly. :)
PathfinderEss Posted October 4, 2012 #6 Share Posted October 4, 2012 They also have a guitarist on the Zuiderdam that plays mainly in the Crows Nest but sometimes other places on the ship. They can be very good.

spacepotatoes Posted October 16, 2012 #11 Share Posted October 16, 2012 We weren't particularly impressed with any of the evening entertainment. The only thing I'd say is a must-see is the crew show. For our sailing, the Indonesian crew put on a show but I think they alternate with the Filipino crew. It's a fun show. Other than that, the daytime activities are good. We liked the cooking demos and mixology classes. Also don't miss the dessert extravaganza if it's offered!
