But honestly, Choosing between the Epic and the Star has become a challange.

I cruised before, not with NCL so my expectations are not for what I got before, at this point I just want a list of pro-cons for a 53 year old single guy on both vessels.

As my first single cruise, I just want to be social, its a must for me as I am set on a TA.

P-C's welcomed, Thanks

Hello,

I am going on the Star in January and was on the Epic last January. I have also been on the Jade, Wind, Sea and Sun. We enjoyed the entertainment variety on the Epic, but preferred the size of the others. The Epic size wasn't overwhelming, but it somehow was less personal. The Epic is newer, so I expect the Star will be a bit more worn (although still nice). Either way, with a good attitude, you will have a great time!

For a solo cruiser the Epic will probably be cheaper because of the studios which are currently found on the Epic only. On the other NCL ships and cabins there will be a single person surcharge which can be up to 100% of the cruise fare pp for the double occupancy.

We get some great stories here about solos sailing on Epic. It's very conducive to meeting new people an enjoying yourself.

Read Don's review in my signature area, plus here are a couple others...

I think you made a great choice. Someone cruising solo couldn't pick a better ship.

I am not in a hurry to go on the Epic when I cruise with my mom it is just too big. But if I was solo I probably would.

Hope you have a great time. It seems far away but will be here before you know it!

Just curious, Donna.. what part of being big don't you like? I've heard people say this before but I don't get it. Too far to walk?

When in port in St. Thomas, talked to guests on Epic........some said they didn't like all the walking to the elevators & had to wait a long time. also, did not like bathroom configuration since the sink was in the bedroom & the shower on one side w/all glass doors offering no privacy & toilet on other side. No door separating bathroom. Watched a video on Sun & they stated that the new Breakaway ship would have bathrooms w/door (they were going back to that) so imagine they have gotten a lot of negative feedback about the bathroom layout on Epic. Also, with so many people,,,,,,,,if you met someone, chances are you might not even see them again unless you arranged meeting. I have not been on the Epic so all this is from others. Our casino guy on Sun (who was bartender on Epic for 3 months) said Epic not good for older folks as the elevators are so spread apart & it is a lot of walking. Looking at deck plans, it appears there are only elevators in two areas of ship........none in middle of ship...

Not necessarily for me. I cruise with my mom and she gets winded and she walks soooo slow. I think if we were on a big ship together she would probably just think something I suggested was too far and limit herself. What's funny is she lives in a high rise in downtown Dallas and doesn't drive. She walks a lot. But usually at her own pace. Maybe she just doesn't want to slow me down. She always has to say "slow down" to me.

She still has a lot of energy and is a lot of fun and makes friends easily. So, if she is more comfortable on the Sun, where everything is close, then that is fine with me because I love the Sun. And even in the stern we aren't too far from anything we would want to do.

I will probably go on Epic or another larger ship sometime in the future in another situation.

Thanks for the clarification. I can attest to the fact that the walk from the spa to my forward room seemed to take forever sometimes :)

as I have not been on either......having said that.....on the Spirit.....the long walks, between one end where my cabin was and the kids club at the other end...were always a good thing.....I don't remember ever using the middle ship elevators............ (helps to keep the weight off :) )

As I said before...good luck with that choice.....Epic vs Star......uhhhmmmm???

Venture on an Epicurean experience :)
