"Recently I posted how the new entertainment management are looking at the music we offer on the ships. Many of you commented on what you would like to see on lido and it appears that a four piece band playing Caribbean music is something you would like to see return. I have collated all of the 1000+ comments and make sure that the right people sea them. Thanks to all who posted."

Hopefully Carnival acts quickly on this.

Oh I really hope they bring back the live bands. Was very disappointed this past Dec. on the Breeze.

I hope they act quickly on this too. I hope he also saw all the comments on the DJ not being on lido. Or at least turning down the volume and mixing it up a bit. I do want the four piece Carribean music to return, however I hope they don't just sprinkle it in between the sets the DJ does.

They probably would have gotten more timely feedback had they still had the onboard comment cards. Still odd how they eliminated them just prior to the Carnival Downgrade.

Hey, there's a good name for a ship!

Has there been any more info on this from John? Any changes coming?

This is exactly what the DJ on the Glory did a few weeks ago. He played the exact same set of songs in the same order on multiple days. A few in our group went up and made requests and every request was denied. He did not stray from his "set list".

Maybe the DJ was told what type of music, every body as a boss. I for one think DJ music should be only be played in a club because that is what you expect to hear, so if you do not want to hear DJ music you do not go to a club, however the DJ on the lido deck could at play bands that play Island music- UB40 would be a start!!!!!

Ditto this. Ecstasy last November was this and Pop stuff neither of us recognized. Moved to the Dream and got Ray Charles, Jimmy Buffet, Zac Brown, etc. and the live Black Jack Band.

Last week on Fantasy, lots of music we recognized and no 'rap-crap' or unfamiliar pop. :D

The Black Jack band was fantastic.

I agree 100%! Black Jack Band is among the very best we've ever heard on ANY cruise,,,Any Line. THANKS

"SKY"

I have never heard that band I hope CCL does not phase them out because of the 2.0 program like other live music, it would be a bad idea to get rid of a good band.

I'm having trouble understanding why the DJ doesn't have more say in what's being played.

After all he or she is the one who sees how the crowd is reacting.

Being a DJ myself I understand when you mix a large crowd of different people with different tastes in music there will be some who won't like whatever is being played.

I think a lil bit of everything would be the answer. I've been looking for some steel drum stuff and its not the easiest thing to find.

Keep the DJs around just change the playlists a bit.

So, does anyone know if anything ever became of the music vote on JH's Facebook? A Caribbean band would be awesome. :)

that's the awesome thing about a DJ

you can have your steel drum Caribbean music from the 1970s, and I can have my Skrillix from yesterday -- and someone else can have their Pat Bennetar from the 1980s --- and it's all the original real artist not some hack cover band.

This is my biggest complaint about Carnival. When I was on RCCL they had a carribean band playing at the pool during the day and a dj when they were on break and it was great. I think that this is a big thing missing from Carnival's ships. When I am cruising to caribbean I want to here some steel drum, some reggae. I also would like them to have a dj that interacts with the crowd... not just push a button and play a song. When on RCCL there dj talked to the crowd on deck and in the club to get people pumped up and dancing, it was great.

Not that I have seen. Looks like another survey that was taken then forgotten.

Kind of like playing the news early in the morning on Lido. JH had said they would no longer be doing that. And they still are... I have to say, I love the Liberty! But when I was up on deck at 7 am... and all of a sudden the news cam blaring on ... I mean BLARING, it scared the living crap out of me! And it was so loud, you couldn't even enjoy being up there.

How about some Quiet time with no music? No one needs a wall of sound 24/7! How about some time to think. If you want music, bring your iPod with your own preference in music!

Ummm...well. There are places that don't play music. :)

I cannot imagine the lido having a block of quiet time as if it were a pre-school.

Very slippery post..... :D

Just off the Victory. Still no live duos or bands on lido. This DJ was better than the DJ on Glory in January. He did mix it up and was more interactive with the crowd. I also like that they did not have the guitar soloist on the lido like they did on the Glory in January. I do very much miss the live music though. There was an excellent Phillipino band that played at the casino bar every night. I would've loved to hear them even if for just an hour or two on the lido.

Ummm no...that's what your private balcony (if you have one) is for. There are also other decks around the ship that most people don't know about, those are perfect for quiet time. I don't think any lido deck on any ship should have quiet time (except late at night and early morning of course). :/

My last cruise on the Splendor had the music (noise) so loud I couldn't sleep in my cabin.

I fixed the problem --- My next five cruises were on another line !!!:)

They used to do this. At least that's what I remember from my other cruises. My last cruise was in 2007 and my family and I spent a lot of time on the lido because we loved the band(s) and people watching. I wonder how much time we'll spend up there this time...

Come back and let us know if it's really any different, the 40th time you hear those steel drums pound out Red Red Wine and Give it Up or Dai-Oh!:)

Well good for you. If lido music it's disturbing you in your cabin that is way too loud. It could've been the area of your cabin too though. Either way I would've complained to the CD and help desk. I've always had a great time on Carnival cruises but I've been out of the loop for some years now. I hope I love this cruise in August as much as I loved my others but if not I have no problem going with other lines. I hear great things about both NCL and RCI.
