Theres that attitude we all love LOL j/k, lighten up. :D
It's the truth. That's the ONLY way she will be 100% guaranteed not to be around smoke. Until RCI changes the policy, that is. Nobody's twisting her arm, so she can pound sand...
Well, nobody's forcing you to be around the smoke. Stay home.
Apparently there's a smoker who really needs a cigarette... jeez... grumpy much?

Give me a bar and a casino with no smoke and I won't bug you.... trust me. I put up with smoke in bars and casinos because I have to, not because I want to.... Just like smokers put up with sitting in the theater for shows because they want to see the show....

Wrong. Not a smoker, just tired of all the whining. Nobody forces you to go to the bars or casinos. You make that choice of your own free will. I don't feel bad for you at all.

About the only areas of the ship that are a problem with cigarettes is the casino and some of the lounges. The rest of the ship, such as the theater and the dining room and half of the outside of the ship are smoke free.

I know that most of you guys are going to tell me not to visit these boards after this but I'm still going to say it anyway:

After joining these boards in January, I have noticed that I am getting more and more nervous about going on cruises because I am afraid that they will turn out to be really bad. For intance, after reading this thread, I feel like our cruises are going to be ruined by cigarette smoke. Or reading some other threads, I feel like our cruises are going to have bad food, no activities, ect. I never felt this way for any of our other cruises. O well!

Also, am I the only one who thinks cruise critic can be addicting?:D

totally understandable..i've never been on a cruise and sometimes the topics make me a little nervous..
but, i have travelled many times before, and a vacation is all what you make of it.
if i don't have to cook and clean or work, anywhere is fabulous :)

and yes, these boards are addicting!! LOL

Geez, everybody needs to lighten up. Every time a smoking or non-smoking thread shows up, it only ends up being a debate between a bunch of b*tchers and whiners. Go to your neutral corners and give it a rest. :D

Here, Here!!!

We all aren't ever going to agree, so let's just give it up.

Regardless of anyones personal habits, they are people too, and always deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, no matter what you feel about their habit.

If you look back you will see that I (I assume you are referring to me) commented on you saying Quote" Well until that policy changes, you are making a conscious decision to go on a smoking ship. If that bothers you, then stay home. I'm not a smoker, but if you're such a wuss that a passing whiff of smoke is going to get your panties in a wad, then stay home."Quote

And I replied.........A whiff of smoke is one thing. Sitting with it going up your nose, in your eyes, clinging to your hair and clothes is another. To me it is a huge difference.

It is people like you that make so many of these threads get pulled. I can look at both sides and while I am a non-smoker I can appreciate where the smokers are coming from. They have their rights, too and until laws change it will continue to be the way it is. But it doesn't mean that I should pound sand because I don't like to smell nasty after having it cling to my clothes. Most smokers I have come across are considerate and I would like to think that the non-smokers show them the same respect. I know I do.

We were on the Norwegian Dawn in December and found that ship was much better for non-smokers that other ships we have sailed. We never had to walk through a casino to get to the theater on the Dawn. However, in March we sailed RCL Legend of the Seas and found it very smokey. We had to walk through a smokey Spinnaker Lounge and then through the smokey casino to get to the Theater. I was very disappointed in that ship. I have noticed on our last Carnival cruise that they have separate smoking and non-smoking bars. I am hoping Royal Caribbean will have some changes on the Jewel of the Seas when we sail in October.

Very happy that Massachusetts now has non-smoking restaurants and bars. Wish the cruiselines would designate non-smoking cabins like most hotels do. People with asthma really suffer from smoke, so I am glad to see some cruiselines are trying to make improvements in newer ships.
Sorry - I didn't know all caps meant "shouting." I certainly didn't mean to shout at anyone. My 90%/10% reference was a generalization - not to the ship particularly, but to restaurants, airports, sports arenas, etc. There are so few places that accommodate smokers anymore that we become resentful when people invade our 10%. Even on the ship, I don't see how anyone is offended that there are a couple of OPEN DECKS on the starboard side where we can smoke. There are precious few indoor PUBLIC areas set aside for smokers - 10% or less. So if you don't want to be offended, stay in the non-smoking areas. I didn't think saying this was nasty - just common sense.
The problem is there is no such thing as a internal smoke free area on a ship apart from the Theatre, smoke does not understand to stay in the area where smoking is allowed.

It is time there is some bars where smoking is baned completely.

Yet another thread to show the mental abilities of both members of this board and the monitors. It is truly amazing to see the lower level of the F curve (that differs from the bell curve, anyone with a degree from a credited university would understand) of intelligence beating a dead horse together!

Way to go with your 'job' of making posts on this board enjoyable moderators!Kudos.

I know this isn't helpful on the RCL boards but they did have a no smoking and smoking side in the casino on the Celebrity Summit. I'm sure if you were smack in the middle it wouldn't help much but if you were in one end or the other it made a huge difference and I was told they had an improved ventilation system.

I do smoke but it got so bad at times that I would just go to the non smoking side and it truly was clean fresh air. I know non smokers can smell smoke alot more but I honestly could feel the fresh air circulating. :)

Oh, I can't resist.

I've gotten to the point to where I have NO tollerance for smokers whatsoever.

It is a filthy, disgusting habit and those who claim they are addicted are just making excuses.

It makes as much sense to allow someone to smoke n a restaurant as it does to allow someone to dump radioactive waste in a restaurant.

Just the other day I was walking down the street (downtown Chicago) and a person in front of me threw their cigarette on the ground. I said, very loudly, "yea, that's right, just throw the damned thing on the ground. Someone else will pick it up."

Actually, I think you're mistaken. That's half the argument against the tobacco company's. Cigarettes are addicting and any medical professional will agree with that. I doubt many would have started smoking alot of years ago if they had been aware of the health hazzards and how hard of a habit it is to break. If you've ever watched an old movie you would realize that back in the 60's smoking was a part of polite society. Times change, sometimes people don't.

I think they probably are addicting there can be no other explanation why so many people smoke harming their health and the health of others.

Your statement that smoking was part of polite society must be one of the most stupid explanations I have ever come across I was around in the sixties and old enough to smoke, I did not and was never considered unpolite.

I admit films portrayed smoking as cool and glamorous, the very opposite of how the average person perceives it now, however the percentage of people smoking has barely changed, and the smokers are still as unconsiderate as ever.

Lets ban it completely outside private houses and quadruple the price to pay for the additional health care costs.

Yeah, like smoking is the biggest reason healthcare is so expensive. It's expensive because the malpractice INSURANCE is too high for the dr.'s. It's also expensive because there are a lot of hypochondriacs who waste the dr.'s time....anyway...that's a nice little fantasy you have going there... totally irrational in my opinion.

Oh, and by the way, if I'm not mistaken, I think smokers pay MORE for insurance, so it should be of no concern to you. If they want to smoke, they pay dearly to be able to do so. Get past it people. People will always smoke, whether or not you like it or agree with it.
