Just back from the Eclipse !!

I totally agree - look what happened on Costa when the Captain was (allegedly) busy socializing. I would rather the Captain focus on safety and commanding the officers and crew than gladhandling Elites and participating in CelebritynLife activities.

Ditto! I'm not looking at the Capt to "meet and greet" or entertain me. His function is to run the ship and make sure we have a safe voyage.

Hi Lalotte,

Thanks for your update. Sorry to hear about Eclipse lacking a soul. That's a very interesting choice of words, as we had a disappointing experience on Eclipse in November. We had a Cruise director and Hotel Director who were both very invisible and forgettable, and I felt that was likely a major factor in why things went wrong.

I absolutely agree that Sue Denning is one of Celebrity's very best, and will do whatever she can, to improve areas under her control. Knowing her energy, I wouldn't be surprised if it's already turned around :)

Thank you for sharing your insights, and welcome home !

Andy,

Our Hotel Director was Tom Brady on the Eclipse Jan 12-26 cruise and he was wonderful. I ran into him several times as he seemed to be everywhere, checking on things. I expressed my appreciation for how wonderful everything was for us. They must have changed hotel directors since your November cruise. If I remember correctly, he was at the Connections get together as well.

We just got off the same cruise and thought everything was great. Tendering in St. Thomas was just fine. We waited about a half hour and had no problem. Very short wait coming back as well. The tender let us off in the heart of the shopping district. Did not have to pay six dollar cab fare to get there.

We are elite (members that is) and liked the 3 drink vouchers each, every day, except the first night, it worked real well. Never had a long wait for the waiters, maybe because we always tipped on the first drink. We visited all the bars but went to the martini most frequently, great bartenders. Only negative was the terrible music being way to loud. However, the bartenders turned it down when asked. They told us and we overheard them tell others that they receive hundreds of complaints every cruise about the music. LISTEN UP CELEBRITY!

Hi Monika,

I've heard nothing but good things about Tom Brady. I can assure you he was not the Hotel Director on Eclipse in November. I hope he'll be onboard in April, as it would be nice to finally meet him.

Andy - If you get the chance to meet him please tell him that past passengers are still sending accolades his way and appreciated all that he's doing/did to make their cruise so wonderful!

Thanks,

Monika

So were you able to use the Elite coupons in the Martini Bar?

Yes we were, Only bars you can not use them is; The molecular bar, dining room, Qsine,

something Bacchio or in the theater. We liked the coupons better than just going to the Sky Lounge every night.

Were the coupons able to be used in Cellarmasters? We were on the Silhouette and could not use them in Cellarmasters.

We're you restricted in which time of the day that you could use these coupons?

Hi,

We are on Eclipse on 23 March, and was just wondering if there were any discounts given once onboard the ship for drinks packages ie. premium packages, or the wine package. We have not been fortunate enough to facilitate the 123 Go promo, since we stay in UK.

Thanks for any info

So just to make sure I understand: Did everyone know well in advance of sailing that you'd be tendering - for example was tender listed in the itinerary included in the advance cruise documents?

Yes the tendering was known very early. We were on the Jan 26 cruise, having booked in March 2012. We knew from initial booking that there would be too many ships in port and that the Eclipse would tender. Eclipse's own lifeboats were used as tenders and it worked very well. For us it was a chance to spend a relaxing day at Trunk Bay in St John.

The Captain on the Silhoutte for the Nov 30, 2011 was the Master, Captain Nicholas Pagonis and the CD was Paul Baya.

I thought is was 2012 but I guess time really flies. Didn't see that long ago

.

We were on December sailing and our Captain Pagonis was great. CD was OK.

I am glad Sue in on Eclipse now. She is one of the best left.

We were on Eclipse 11/17 sailing. Seemed to me the whole crew was very friendly, always a smile and greeting. We used the Valet service - getting our bags to the airport and to home airport - we all met in Michael's Club, were escorted off the ship and into a very short Customs line - best $40 ever spent!

Was disappointed in breakfasts in the buffet - half cooked, limp bacon and slimy scrambled eggs. Lunches in the buffet were great - something for everyone. Dinners in the MDR were hit or miss - some very good, some very bad... Loved the iPad/iPhone classes - our instructor was very knowledgeable

and funnier than any of the comedians :) The glass blowing show was terrific!

Regarding the guest speaker Lisa Didier:

what were the topics of her speeches?

Second, what types of activities were on sea days?

Lisa's topics were:

Buccaners

Pirates of theCaribbean

Madams 1850-1910

Original Natives of the Caribbean isles

Madams Part II 1910-1950

She was great!

I so agree Sue Denning is the best Cruise Director on all of the Celebrity Ship.

My husband and I have sailed on twelve Celebrity cruises. We are planning another two this year can wait especial the Transatlantic

Another vote for Lisa Didier! She was the guest speaker on our Canada/New England cruise on the Summit and she is NOT to be missed! She did her two Madams talks and also a talk about "Yankees" It was a packed house!

Maybe we will be lucky and she will be on our up coming Caribbean cruise.:)

I wrote a review, it was a satisfying cruise but a few issues, here are my general thoughts ( I have been on 15 celebrity cruises):

  • Fellow passengers were classy, nice to be with.
  • food was excellent, so was the service, the best ever
  • Embarcation and disembarcation went very smoothtly
  • Escargots were available twice, not on menu. Replacement crab and mushroom were not good.
  • Coupons were used for Elite members but servers would ignore us.
  • Captain was never seen and hard to understand.
  • Cruise Director, Patti Honacki, was ok but never seen except on stage.
  • Music throughout the ship was awful particularly Fully Functionnal band, no ballroom dancing on the Eclipse. A capella group Top Shelf was fine but not featured enough, Perry Grant was his usual funny self even if the Sky Lounge lacked atmosphere.
  • Not enough activities on the 5 sea days, always the same, even if there was a lot of repeat guests, no talent show ( crew or passengers) which at least would be different from one cruise to the next.
  • Guest speaker Lisa Didier was exceptionnal and she drew enormous crowds.
  • On the whole the guest entertainers were very good and the production shows exceptionnal.
  • I also wish the itinerary would be a bit different from year to year. We will have to look elsewhere next year.

I think the Eclipse lacks a soul ( contrary to the Equinox and Silhouette), but I think the change of cruise Director , Sue Denning is now on board, should remedy to that !

My DW and I just finished our Eclipse Cruise 1/26to2/9 and I totally agree with all your observations.:(

We were on the same sailing. We found breakfast buffet had a lot of variety, but since we don't eat big breakfast, we ate most of the time in Aqua Cafe or Elite breakfast. Dinners in MDR were good for the most part.

Did you have to pick up your luggage before you went thru customs? or you pick it up at your hope airport?

Thanks

We put our bags out the last night of the cruise - with special tags on them - and didn't see them again until we got to our home airport. So, no, we didn't have to take them through customs. I hope they offer the same service on our next cruises.
