We loved the Mauro Mansion. It's ranked #1 on TripAdvisor. It's within a walkable distance from the train station, on a lovely canal, and close to many sights. We did get an all day tram pass when we went to the museums. Those were a little further out. Anyway, we really enjoyed our stay there.

we stayed 3 nights at the Hotel Estherea, on the Singel Canal.....short walk to Dam Square, very good location.....we walked everywhere.....

very unique boutique hotel with old world charm......check trip advisor for reviews/pics

we did not book with breakfast included...at the end of the street was a great little restaurant where we had the most amazing omelettes...and around the corner was a bakery with all sorts of buns, croissants, sweet rolls etc. Plenty of meal options.

There are so many hotels to choose from....many in great locations for walking the city. I'd look at tripadvisor.com for a good overview. You can start there for locating hotels in your budget and style. THere are business type hotels near the train station/Dam Square and very handy. (We stayed at the Radisson Blu) There are small boutique and bed and breakfast types all thruout the city. All depends on what you are looking for.
