Celebrity Eclipse

Thank you so much! This review is just what I needed. We are choosing a Baltic cruise for this Summer right now and Celebrity was one of the options. Could you advise about the passengers there? What age category and what countries was the majority from?

We are in out fifties, Brits - me and my friend. We like nice food but are not heavy eaters and we are not very much in for drinks (a bit old fashioned - like tea ). We are in for art and culture. And we like it when it is calm and comfortable. Do you think we will fit in?

You will be round pegs in round holes.

Celebrity is the best cruiseline we have sailed on.

Take advantage of the non alcoholic drinks package,

The choice of teas in the Cafe d bacio is fantastic.

I would also suggest select dining, you can choose to eat at any

time between 6.30 and 9pm which may be a good option

if you are looking o do a Baltic Cruise.

1. Celebrity has the most progressive non-smoking policy in the mass cruise market. It is the only cruise line to ban smoking on balconies as well as in the cabins and the casinos. On the Eclipse, smoking was limited to a section of the port side of the pool deck, to the port side of an outdoor bar at the back of the ship, and to an outdoor bar on the starboard side on the deck above the pools. I heard no complaints from anyone.

There is an additional smoking area on Deck 5, but is it well away from main traffic as the walking deck does not wrap around. We too were on this cruise and thoroughly enjoyed it...enough so that we booked the exact same ship on the exact same weeks in the exact same room!

Did you join our roll call Trailawyer? I do not remember meeting you at sailaway. Perhaps you will consider the 1/11/14 sailing again. (Curacao instead of Bonaire, but the rest is the same)

The stateroom differences are partially visible even on Celebrity's own website, but, in addition to the location of the cabin and Blu, what sold us on AquaClass was the shower with its multiple jets. I never emerged from a shower feeling so refreshed, and kept looking for excuses to drop my soap. :)

You obviously have much thicker skin than I do :) I could not find a way to set the spray heads in a position that didn't actually hurt unless I turned off the overhead shower head....but then it's pretty hard to wash your hair, face, upper body when the jets of water are lower. Perhaps I need a lesson in how to better use the showers in aqua. I would love them if you could adjust the spray pattern of the individual jets to something other than "pressure wash".

I suppose that I do have a lot of hard bark on me to survive in court, but we traveled on our cruise with two other couples who are not trial lawyers, also in AquaClass cabins on either side of ours, and everyone raved about the showers. It's too bad that you were unable to enjoy so fantastic a feature.

what's the trick? Are the spray patterns adjustable so it doesn't just jet straight out at one point on your body? (I know you can move the jet around to point in different directions). I must be missing something.....and I've been on three s-class aqua cruises in the past year.

In an earlier post you complained about Blu, you complain about the AquaClass showers, and yet by your own admission you keep on sailing in AquaClass. How bad can it be? You remind me of Woody Allen's famous criticism of a restaurant: "The food here is terrible, and the portions are too small."

I've never suggested that someone not book aqua class....however you raved about the showers and my experience differs (which is why I am asking what I'm missing). I don't use the jets...I find the shower head wonderful...but clearly I'm missing something based on your posts.

Blu is excellent on some things and not quite so excellent on others....and that varies by ship and perhaps by cruise. Very few things are perfect...I've had terrible steak in Tuscan Grill and some wonderful steaks....does that mean I shouldn't eat in Tuscan Grill.

So getting back to the showers....I was asking a serious question....have I missed some adjustment capability?

Since I didn't consider the water pressure uncomfortable (just the opposite), I had no cause to adjust it and so I can't offer you advice on something I did not try to do and had no thought to do.

If you sail AquaClass again, I suggest simply asking your cabin steward for a "lesson" (as you put it).

Or, in the alternative, you might also contact Celebrity via its interactive website and ask your question.

Or you can pose your question in a forum on this website.

If the pressure can't be adjusted to your liking, then you might consider choosing a different category of cabin for your next cruise.

Triallawyer-I am a retired trial attorney; and, I was a sole practictioner for many years. Where do you practice? Also, are you solo or a member of a firm? One of the reasons, inter alia, for my retirement was the difficulty of solo practice, and the diminution of the law from an honorable profession to essentially nothing more than a commercial enterprise.

LOL! Must be a newbie. . .

Seriously, can you tell me about the cabin differences? I have been on S Class in AQ, FV and CC--obviously a huge difference in FV but the other two cabins seemed identical to me, other than the showerhead!

Just so you know, the Celebrity reps are well known here to be clueless; if you want to know about anything, this is the place. I wouldn't believe a thing the shore-based personnel tell me. So asking them how the shower works??

MarGG if you enjoy an international mix of guests as we do you will enjoy the Baltic on Celebrity.

This cruise will attract those with an interest in history, architecture, culture and fantastic European cities. Not to mention the luxuries on board the S class ships on which we have sailed 5 times, once on Eclipse. Even in summer the Baltic can have occasional cool days so take a jacket. You have made an excellent choice, on sea days head for the Solarium.

I practice in a firm of 10 lawyers in historic Bucks County, Pennsylvania, just north of Philadelphia. Some of us in the firm, including myself, practiced in large Philadelphia firms for several years, but because we live in the suburbs became tired of the daily commute. My practice is about evenly divided between Philadelphia and the surrounding counties.

I don't know your definition of "newbie." I have been on at least 12 Celebrity cruises I can remember; a lesser number with other lines. If that makes me a newbie in your book, I can live with it.

I disagree with your characterization of Celebrity representatives as "clueless." Those I have spoken to have been both courteous and helpful. For example, no one in this forum answered my question about smoking I had posted months before my cruise, yet a Celebrity representative I "spoke" to on-line answered it immediately, honestly and accurately.

Also, you'll recall that another option I had offered to the passenger looking for information about how to adjust his shower was to post an inquiry in a forum like this. You seem to be someone who purports to know so much. Maybe you can help him.

Very interesting, since I tried a case, many years ago, in Harrisburg or Harrisonburge (please excuse the spelling). My recollection was the courthouse which was a marvel of constructrion. It was back in the early 60's; and, as I recall it was located about 50 miles from Pittsburgh.

Thank you for your very articulate review:). My DH and I are sailing Eclipse Aqua in April - do you recall the name of the Matre'd in Blu? just wondering if anyone we have sailed with before.

Yes. The maitre d' was Jorge ("Mr. George") Simoes who we knew from the Constellation. His assistant was Erkan Kurnaz. Although our party of six was large for a small restaurant like Blu, they managed to seat us efficiently each evening and made arrangements for us to dine in other venues whenever we requested. I can't say enough nice things about them. They are both genuine gentlemen.

Good to read a 100% positive review. We're sailing on her 3/9 and watched her sail off for the last time before we go (portevergladeswebcam.com) yesterday. Now we are terminally excited! I thought the Constellation and Summit were beautiful, but after reading your post, I'm looking forward to being amazed all over again! Thanks!

Having just gotten of the Eclipse, we agree with the review. The Eclipse is outstanding.

Note that Erkan told us that he was leaving the ship soon to visit with his family.

Because we were in a Sky Suite we had our choice of the MDR or Blu. We chose to eat in Blu, although we did eat in the MDR on the first night (and enjoyed a delicious cut of Roast Beef). The food and service in Blu is excellent. In our opinion, it is well worth the additional cost of Aqua Class.

It was our first time in a Sky Suite and we loved the additional room and the extra perks. Our butler, George Matthew, couldn't do enough for us. We had read that some of the S-2 suites have early morning noise issues but we hsd none in 2118,

If you are referring to the capital of Pa, it's Harrisburg and it is about 240 miles from Pittsburgh.

We were on the jan 26 cruise on Eclipse and agree with your review. It was a wonderful 2 weeks, and we have already booked for next year. We ate in the MDR and found the food to be excellent. A beautiful ship and a great crew.

That could be it. I tried that case in 1962; hence, my memory may be failing me. I recall that we flew into Pittsburgh and drove from there to our lodgings, and eventually the courthouse the next day. The courthouse was magnificient, thick walls and granite etc.
