jeansaussie1 Posted March 29, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 29, 2013 Sorry if this is a repeat question but I've been searching the 123 promo threads and still can't figure it out. 1st time Celebrity cruiser here. I booked through a major online TA. Their invoice says "Celebrity 123 Promo $375 Onboard Credit". Of which $200 was from Wave and $175 from TA I requested the Celebrity Booking Confirmation - Guest Copy. It says "WAV3-WAVE OBC" but there is no dollar amount listed. My question is when I go online - under Manage Reservation and choose View Reservation, on the right side it says "My Cruise Extras". I've thought I read that the $200 OBC should appear there. But it is blank. Is that correct - Is there no way to see Wave OBC online if I book through a TA?

The TA OBC generally does not show till day 2. Do you have copy of the OBC you received. I always take a copy w/me in case problems happen while at sea. So if I book a Celebrity shore excursion online thats costs say $125 will the amount be deducted from our account when we get on board? I have done a mock booking of an excursion without clicking on "add this reservation". Is this what I should do and it will be taken care of on board? Hi,:) in order for you to not pay for the excursion, you need to book on board the ship. Hence, "on board" credit:D.....if you book on the net? You will need to pay for it in full. The on board credit is good only while you are on board the ship so I would wait and book the excursion after you board:)

When I say I am booking online, I do mean through the "My Celebrity" online site, not a private tour company. I am concerned about waiting because if I can only book while on board, the excursions I want may be sold out. So in other words I have to take my chances? :(

To use on board credit you must book on board :)

adanaccruisers Posted March 30, 2013 #9 Share Posted March 30, 2013 Don't be sad:(.....go to the excursion desk after you board the ship.:) Can the OBC i received through the 123 go promo be used for gratuities charged to my account on board Celebrity? Other than a couple of excursions, we are not interested in Specialty restaurants, or spa visits and we already have the drink package included. Sorry for all the questions but we've never cruised before and I was misinformed about the OBC.

Sorry for all the questions but we've never cruised before and I was misinformed about the OBC. If you have an obc it will automatically be put on your account. So whatever you buy will be deducted from the total. The gratuties will be put on the account too so unless the 123 promo works differently? It is still a credit so it will go on your account and yes, will help pay for the gratuities.;) I haven't booked the promo so if I am wrong, I am sure someone will correct me. No worries about the questions:)

Yes the OBC can pay the gratuities as long as you have not chosen Select Dining (gratuities have to be pre paid for Select Dining). The Cruise Critic Board is a great place to ask questions. We all learn from asking. Sorry that you were misinformed. Since you have a TA, you might want to talk to them again. Generally the obc you receive from cruise is non-refundable. The obc received from TA is generally refundable if not used. The TA obc will be credited back to your credit card.

Sorry for all the questions but wPe've never cruised before and I was misinformed about the OBC. If you have fixed dining then the gratuities will be charged to your onboard account and can use the OBC to pay the cost. If you have Select dining, you will pay the gratuities before boarding, therefore will not be able to offset this cost with OBC.

texkan Posted March 30, 2013 #14 Share Posted March 30, 2013 If I switch to Select dining after I board can my OBC then be used for the gratuities? Can not answer that question. We have always booked traditional dining until this last 3/13 cruise. Booked Select Dining and had to pre pay gratuities. Not sure if you can change your Dinner Booking once onboard. Your TA should be able to help you with the answer.
Rare cruisestitch Posted March 30, 2013 #15 Share Posted March 30, 2013 Sometimes you can change from Traditional to Select or the other way around once your are on the ship, but more and more, the various dining choices are Sold Out and you find that you can't change. Let's see if this is any clearer. Any OBC is used once you are On Board for anything you charge on your SeaPass account. This could be your gratuities, shore excursions, photographs, bingo cards, gift shop, mini bar, laundry, casino withdrawals, beverage packages. If you buy anything ahead of the cruise, it will be charged to your credit card at that moment. So if you book a shore excursion from home, you pay at the time of booking. If you wait until you are on the ship, you can use your OnBoard Credit. If you choose Select Dining, you must pay gratuities at the time you pay your Final Payment. If you choose Traditional Dining, you CAN pay gratuities at the time you pay your Final Payment, OR you can wait until you are on board, and use your On Board Credit. Sham21 Posted March 30, 2013 #16 Share Posted March 30, 2013 So if we have pre-paid gratuities on the 123promo and OBC with a TA and have select dining,,, will it show gratuities paid or an extra credit in the amount of the gratuities???

Thanks, cruisestitch. :) This is crystal clear and it seems to suggest that what I am proposing should work. I am currently assigned to traditional dining. I will not make any changes until I am on board, so I will not be required to pay my gratuities before I board the ship. Once I am on board, I may decide that I prefer Select Dining. If I do so, and I am allowed to switch -- assuming availability -- my on board account will presumably be billed immediately for my gratuities. However, this should be offset by the amount of my OBC. So the result is that I can have Select Dining and also use my OBC to cover my gratuities, although I must assume the risk of not being allowed to switch to Select Dining once on board. Has anyone done this? Can anyone think of a reason -- other than lack of availability of Select Dining -- why it might not work?
Rare cruisestitch Posted March 30, 2013 #19 Share Posted March 30, 2013 You've got it -- good luck to you! And whether or not you can switch, your OBC can be used for the gratuities. But if you can't switch, and you end up with extra OBC left over that you don't spend on shore excursions or miscellaneous, don't leave it behind. Go to the casino and withdraw it in cash. They will charge you 5% to do this, but at least you won't be leaving it unused.
GeorgesGal Posted March 30, 2013 #20 Share Posted March 30, 2013 Since the OBC can be used toward your gratuities, I would book the excursion NOW if your mind is set on a particular one. Yes, you will pay for it now, but the OBC's certainly won't go to waste either!
