MORE things Splendor ... NY style!

Hmm...$100 for our family in that case...not sure if it's worth it and don't think DH will go for it. The priority embarkation and debarkation sound good to me, but we are traveling with other family members to and from the ship and we like that group "Welcome Aboard" photo, so I would also have to convince 2 other cabins worth of people to do it. For dining reservations, we decided we're not going to the steakhouse and we did the early seating dinner. We don't go to a port with a tender either...we're going to St. Thomas, San Juan and Grand Turk. So yeah, probably not fit for our situation.

Understand your logic. We get a couple of extra perks in home ports where it is offered, so we are pleased it is coming to NY as we sail in August from there.

When is it coming to NY? I have been checking everyday for the last 3 months and it is still not showing up for me.

I just saw it on his Facebook:

"Faster to the Fun is now available to purchase for the Carnival Inspiration for cruises starting June 24th.

By the end of July we will start the program on Carnival Glory, Carnival Pride, Carnival Miracle and Carnival Splendor and I will have exact dates for those soon.

Cheers"

I feel bad for the Splendor. It is going to take a beating from the NY whining and grumbling crowd. Nothing worse than being on a cruise full of NYers, they trash the ship, get obnoxious and drunk(out of control drunk), and are never happy. The Poor poor Splendor, will need to be drydocked after NY.;)

That might be so ...

Whoa now, wait a minute. We are from Brooklyn, NY and NEVER get obnoxiously drunk, have never trashed a place of any kind in all our lives, and we are VERY easy to please. I have cruised out of NYC, San Juan, Miami and Port Canaveral. I have seen grumpy people that cruised out of every single one of these ports...put 3,000 people on a ship and you will hear some complain. And I have seen obnoxiously drunk people on sailings out of Florida where they had to remove those people from the disco in wheelchairs and escort them to their cabins. And no, they were not New Yorkers. Watch the stereotypes please...there are good people and bad people...complainers and happy people...drunks and non-drunks...in every single part of this world, not just in NYC. I feel bad for you because it seems as though you do not sail out of NY and therefore do not get the pleasure of watching our beautiful city as you sail.

Been on 8 cruises out of NY on the Miracle . . . Have 3 booked on splendor and plan on booking more. Never seen out of control NYers or had any out of control drunks.

Exactly...I'm so tired of the NYC bashing people do...not just on CC but in the "real world" too. I've traveled all over the place and have encountered nice people and not to nice people everywhere I've been.

I haven't cruised with Carnival in 13 years...we have gone on a few cruises with NCL, and they have allowed us to wait in the cabin as an option on the last morning before disembarking. What is Carnival's procedure for disembarkation on the last morning? We don't carry off all our luggage because there is too much of it (we have small children). The way I remember it, we had to go to a specific lounge with the carry-on luggage and wait a while before our luggage tag color was called. Forgive me if this sounds ancient, it's been a while since I've been on Carnival!

They were making announcements in the halls (not the cabins) until about 9am. We were doing self assist - which "technically ended by 9am - but we were stalling :D Then Marcelo the cruise director, came on the speakers in the cabins. "Hello," he said, softly - almost a whisper. "Are you awake yet? I hate to break the bad news, but your cruise is over."

He, then, went on to say that people were gathering for the next cruise - they probably were! And could we please vacate the cabins so the housekeeping staff could clean.

We were just about ready - finding spots for last minute things, and cramming things and trying to minimize what we were dragging along.

We headed out after that. Stopping to say good-bye to our excellent room steward and his assistant (I can't write their names without my cheat sheet!).

They told every one else they could wait in any of the public areas on the Lido, Decks 3, 4, and 5, IIRC. You were not confined to one space. The Black Pearl restaurant was open for sit down breakfast as were the buffets.

We left the ship between 9 & 9:30 - there was no problem getting an elevator and no lines. Very easy debark!

We walked off the ship and they were directing people to the luggage pick up areas. I spotted an official looking woman standing in a door way and I asked her, "What if you don't have luggage to pick up?" "Oh," she said, with a smile, "Come right this way." Customs people waiting for us! Bing-Bang-Boom we were off the ship, through customs and waiting for our limo.

Pay no mind to the troll! There were a couple of obnoxious male chauvinist types we ran into in one of the bars and a hot tub - but they were just normally obnoxious people - it had nothing to do with alcohol. Two bad apples out of 3500 seemed great to me.

Other than that most people were just great - people having fun on vacation. There was no whining, grumbling or complaining and the ship certainly has NOT been trashed!

People were laughing and chatting on the lines (not that there were many really long lines). Having a few laughs at the bars - just FUN!

This is what I notice on all cruises...a couple of rude people who are just miserable, yes. Thousands of them on one ship? Absolutely not! And I have NEVER seen a ship trashed...maybe someone is confusing this with either a high school senior trip or a college spring break trip to a run-down resort.

Amen to that! And the NY sail away is phenomenal - even in the pouring rain :D

I love cruising out of NY - why fly someplace when I can be at the pier and ready to board in 40 min!

I feel the same way! I love sailing out of NY, driving right to the ship in 45 minutes or so, parking for the week and being on vacation! We used to take cabs before we had kids, but having the car with us is easier with the kids, especially when coming home!

Just a quick question...we will be sailing on the Splendor in Sept. When we have sailed on Norwegian from NY we were allowed to tape up soda and water with a luggage tag and send it off with our luggage with the porters, to be seen later by our cabin. Is this something we can do also with Carnival or do we have to carry it onto the ship?

Carnival requires that soda / water be carried on with you.

What time do they let you embark? We like to get on the ship as early as possible and we're only coming from a short car ride away in Brooklyn. We're not Platinum (we're Gold), so no special privileges.

Most everyone was off the ship by 11 with a few stragglers still coming out. That's about the time we headed over to the boarding area. They were just moving people through the security - Priority and non-priorty together at that point. There were no lines. After security they separated - priority to the right and the VIP lounge - everyone else to the left.

We boarded at about 11:40 and they were moving people through from the other areas shortly after us. There were maybe 100 people in the VIP lounge - I don't think even that many.

I would think it gets much busier around 12:30 or 1:00 - at least it has on previous cruises when we arrived at that time.

What time did you arrive at the pier? The time we are leaving the house depends on when the vet is open for my sister to board her dogs that morning. They're open either at 9am or 10am, and we will leave as soon as she brings them in to be boarded. It takes us about 45 minutes to reach the pier usually, with usual traffic, from our house. Then, my father and brother-in-law are going to park the 2 cars (all 10 of us and our luggage will fit into 2 cars so we're doing that instead of bringing all 3 and we're splitting the parking fees).

I'm wondering when they will take our luggage to be brought onto the ship. Last time when we cruised on NCL 2 years ago, we got there at around 10:30am or so, and they weren't ready for our luggage for about 15 minutes so we had to wait outside with it while they were parking the cars. Do you know how early they will allow us to check our luggage? Also, do you think the hour makes a big difference in the check-in line? I know if the vet is open at 9am and she can board the dogs at that time, we will be plenty early to the pier but if they open at 10am we will not get there until around 11am, when others are getting off the ship.

The goal of course is to get onto the ship as early as we can. I know I sound nutty, and it shouldn't really make a difference because once we're on, we're on and an hour or so shouldn't make a difference but when you're waiting with an 8-year-old and a 6-year-old to board a ship every minute counts! My nieces (9 and 12) are also going to be with us, and it will be hard for them also after a certain point. But my kids get very antsy when they're bored waiting in line, so I am just wondering.

Hello there, you guys sound like your going to be having 2 packed cars! I was wondering Which lot are you guys going to use for parking? I have been checking out a few, Got a good price of 242.00 for the 8 days with Valet service after dropping off, and a 5 dollar voucher for taxi after and it's only a few minute walk, Just in case our usual Ride is working these days, and thinking it's probably just as easy to drive our own car and leave when we want to and from, I live about 25 min from the pier in Westchester. and us like you, get there as early so OUR vacation starts sooner! LOL....

We got to the Pier between 10am & 10:30am. Our driver was a bit early and we didn't hit much traffic coming from NJ.

They were still pretty busy getting people off. If you are at Pier 90, there is a snack bar on the second level. Outside the roped off area, there was a general seating area. We waited there for my sister. She arrived at about 11am, and we were able to go right to security. There were no lines at that point.

We didn't check any luggage, so I couldn't say for sure. By 11am the flow kind of reversed and there were more people coming in than leaving. But I can't be sure about the porter availability for people boarding. They only make money if they are moving, and let me tell you they were moving! :D

My mom is having surgery before the cruise and won't be able to carry her bags to the porters. From where you get let off by a taxi company at the pier, how far is it to drop off your luggage, are there any stairs of anything? Thanks

Depending on what time you get to the pier, there should be porters waiting where the cabs drop people off (on the second level). Once they clear out all the passengers who are leaving, they are keen to get started taking luggage from new arrivals.

There are elevators and escalators - no stair climbing involved. But you should know that the ramps to get from the dock to the ship are STEEP!

Kath, do you have any tips for not overpacking? How on earth did you get by on only a carry-on (one each, I'm assuming):confused:

Hi, I will be cruising will Family on Splendor in 32 days and want to know if the Sushi bar and Mongolian Wok is there?

Pam

Oh YES! Loved both! Mongolian Wok is best the first day because the lines are shorter. If the line isn't much beyond the end of where you get the noodles and veggies, it's about 15 minutes. I thought it was worth the wait even when I had to wait longer. I think 20 minutes to a half hour while most were off the ship in Nassau, but the only had one cook working 3 woks.

Sushi Bar is on deck 5 towards the stern. Casino > Future Cruise Desk > Coffee bar > Sushi - working your way aft from the atrium. It opened around 5 most days and there was never a long line - maybe 5 or 6 people. They had a menu listing what they were making that day. The plates were made up (I think you could get a different mix) and they just handed them out. Plenty of wasabi, cucumber, ginger, soy, and some kind of spicy mayonnaise.

I can't tell you what I ate - I just took the plate and it was all good!
