Have not been on yet but hear it's allowed in outdoor sections of bars, casinos, balconies, one side of pool area. Your smoking friends will find ample opportunity. :D

Now I'm going to get my popcorn and wait for the rabid nons to come along.

Not a smoker. I know the outside areas had ashtrays. I also saw this room onboard, which I think cigar and ciggy smokers hung out....

There's also a designated smoking area in the casino. But, the casino is closed while in port, or near U.S. or Bermudan waters.

Ooopps...being a non-smoker I was unaware that cigar and cigarette smokers don't mix. Just saw this smoking room and posted it.

on the contrary.im thrilled you posted this pic I have been looking for it for a while. Just a pet peeve of mine, while in the lounge I would not make my displeasure known to cigarette smokers. They have many places on ships including whole sides of pool decks, casinos, outside of promenade usually, and there balcony's. We as cigar smokers have a single place officially usable for us.

Even when it is closed passengers can still go in and have a smoke. ;)

As a nonsmoking gambler, I would like to point out that the casino is NOT a lounge for smokers. (and yes, I know the casino is closed in port). I am just saying, don't present the casino as a smoking lounge, because it is not. Smoking is permitted by the gamers since it is a gambling location. Those of us who like to play are most annoyed when smokers come in and sit at the machines to smoke or congregate around machines smoking so they can access ashtrays. Go ahead and throw flames at me, but I have no problem with cigar and cigarette smokers mixing together in the smoking lounge. In fact, I wish smoking rooms where the norm rather than smokers being able to pollute the air that nonsmokers must breathe. I would LOVE to have even more smoke free zones on the ships.

The fact is it is the only indoor smoking bar. NCL has turned it into a smoking lounge for everyone not just gamblers. Being the only indoor smoking bar makes it worse for the non smoking gambles concentrating all the smokers there. Even for me as a smoker when the main show gets out and 50 passenger descend on the casino to light up at once the air handlers don't have a pray of keeping up. Saying it is only for gamblers is like saying shows in the bars are only for those drinking.

We were on Breakaway 6/9- 6/16.

The casino smoke eaters were NOT keeping up with the smoke.

You could smell it all the way to the elevators past O'Sheehans.

I believe people were told NOT to smoke on their balconies. The 3 next to us did not adhere to that. One of them smoking was fine, but three going at it was choking the two of us off our balcony (and I sprung for a mini-suite for our anniversary:eek:).

They need to enclose the smoking area in the casino. Gives the smokers their spot to smoke and gamble.

There were plenty of areas upstairs, so plenty of places for the smokers to puff.

Last I heard it was not a requirement of the cruise line to visit the casino. Purely optional. Just saying.

Ugh smoking was lame on this ship. Can only do it right at the bars and at Shakers. May smoke on your balcony but not inside the room. They were very strict about deviating from smoking areas. I mean, I would sit on a deck chair, 2 steps away from the bar and the staff would be in my face about it. Maybe it is because of that ship that recently burnt but dang, they were tight about it. Smokes were cheap to buy though lol.

Yawwwn, the casino was hardly a sticky spot to smoke. It felt like smoking in a hallway. I smoked half a cig and left. Ships aught to have a whole smokers deck complete with pools, a bar and a hot tub!!

OP- here is the official policy: http://www.ncl.com/faq#smoking

In a nutshell- Cigarette smoking areas include the casino and cigar bar, and open decks except near food venues, sports areas, kid pools and posted areas. It also says balconies, but perhaps that has changed given one of the posts here. Either way, I'm sure your group will be mindful of the restricted areas and be considerate of the nonsmokers. Enjoy your cruise!

Thanks for the responses. As a regular cruser on Celebrity, never haven't been on NCL I wasn't sure. Celebrity is much more restrictive on smoking. As a smoker I am aware of the affect it has on non smokers and am very considerate. I never smoke at home when company comes over and can go for hours when around non smokers. I do however think that as one who consider non smokers, then smokers should respect what little areas are set aside for smokers and avoid these areas or at least not complain when in a smoking area. I am trying to stop but like any addiction, it is difficult

I understand. I am a nonsmoker, but grew up in with chain smoking parents. I hate smoke, but I like casinos and I go in knowing to expect smoke. I may skip a machine near smokers or move if the smoke is bothering me, but I'm not going to hold it against the smoker who is where they are allowed to be, doing what they are allowed to do. Best of luck on kicking the habit!

Not sure where you got the idea that people were told not to smoke on their balconies. No smoking is allowed in the cabins but balconies are fair game. I would guess they sprung for their balconies to have a place to smoke.

You are wrong about NOT smoking on balconies - it is ALLOWED. Being a smoker I try to be considerate but sometimes non -smokers are downright rude . I paid my passage like everyone else and if I want to smoke (in the permitted area) so be it. Why should we be penned up like animals? WE already have to smoke in the rain, snow, cold, heat now you want an enclosed area for us. I'm a human too!!

:)I was so lucky this time, my neighbors on either side did not smoke! I enjoyed my balcony so much more, I have been on other ships and the smokers were out in full force!

Shhhhhhhh! Be careful or they will gang up on you! Smokers love to find non smokers and make them miserable.

;)

As a group going on the Breakaway 9/15 with a few smokers, any info on availability of smoking areas on the ship?

Biggest difference with smoking on Breakaway is that there is NO public bar where you can sit and smoke--including the very small casino bar. You can sit outside in chairs next to the bar.
