What to do, where to stay in San Francisco?

Any suggestions on what to do, where to stay in San Francisco? We will arrive two days before our cruise.

Take a tour of the vineyards in Napa or Sonoma.

When are you going ? I will be going for 5 nights starting next Thursday .

 

I relied on tripdadvisor for all my information plus a good tour book.

Cable Car museum. Walk up the Filbert ave steps to Coit tower. Musee Mechanique.

The tour of Alcatraz is a lot of fun and really well done. If possible purchase your tickets on line in advance as it can get busy and sold out

We have always wanted to do the Alcatraz tour but could never plan our trips far enough in advance and the tickets were always sold out. We were there this past weekend and I got up early to take some photos at sunrise and was walking past the ticket office about 7am and there was a line of about 30 people there for the standby tickets. I was able to get two tickets for the 10am tour without advanced reservations. Another option that worked for us although reservations would be the way to go if they can plan ahead, as you noted.

[Travel Time]

Union Square is nice, and you can catch the cable cars from there. Stayed at the Chancellor Hotel..great place and reasonably priced.

Things to see, tour ChinaTown, Colt Tower(fabulous), foodie tours, Little Italy, head over to Golden Gate Bridge, Sausilito..see all the house boats, and don't forget Lorbard Street..

 

We used public transit, very easy to navigate.

 

Have fun..San Francisco is an incredible city.:)

I have stayed at the Sheraton near fisherman's wharf. Great location. Cable car stop is about 2 blocks away. So is the wharf and awesome seafood.

We stayed at the Tuscan on the wharf. Wonderful place.

Try to make reservations to the Alcatraz Tour, it's very good.

Also, try to catch Beach Blanket Babylon in North Beach. It's the funniest play/musical you'll ever see!
