I was raised if you see someone coming thru a door behind you to hold the door open and let them go in first if you see someone in a wheel chair you hold the door let them go.. Now it's everybody wants to be first.. Would it really matter if we let the true people with disabilities wheel chairs walkers go on the ship before anybody else? Who that really piss off the diamonds and plats? I'm talking about people with true disabilities

Too many have learned to play the disability card. If a disabled person can get on an airplane, get their luggage, get into a cab, get out of the cab, get in line and check in, and wait like everyone else, then what harm has been done to them? That disabled card is being played way too often to have one up on people. I would be ashamed to play that card, but it does get attention - the wrong kind.

After a person with an unseen disability has done all the above, they are most likely ready to use that wheelchair/walker/cane.

Who are you to judge ?

This thread is just going around in circles.........and I am getting dizzy. Is that a disability?

I agree that I will hold the door open for somebody disabled. But once we get in I will go around them and go about my business. Where as if I am in a line waiting and somebody in a wheelchair comes up, I will not expect them to jump to the front.

Exactly. And again, I doubt the OPs family member is able to do any of that without assistance. She's blind! And last I checked that's a bonified disability. Her needing assistance isn't "playing the disability card." Now people are going to determine how she got to the port and how she handled her luggage. Really? SMH.

I guess I don't understand why a person with a broken leg or whatever can't wait in line just like everybody else? If you're in such bad physical condition as to preclude your ability to wait in line you're going to have a real problem trying to jump in a life boat if necessary.

Umm, Have you ever HAD a broken leg? It SWELLS like crazy when you are sitting in a wheelchair. Your best bet is to get it elevated as soon as possible. Then get up and do stuff, then lay down again etc. Not saying I would travel like that, but if you already have the cruise booked what would you do???? And the OP says that her daughter is blind AND having a bone marrow biopsy the day before. I think that it would be best to get her away from large crowds and standing in line. Have some compassion!

Yes I have had a broken leg. Guess what? I didn't expect preferential treatment. They have a simple solution. Arrive at the port later in the day when there is no huge crowd or long wait. When I went on a cruise with my severely disabled niece, that is what we did. We did not go there expecting preferential treatment. We went expecting to be treated like everyone else.

Wow, this is truly lousy.

I am glad my two severely disabled cousins are not coming with me tomorrow.

So are saying your disabled cousins are not worth going on a cruise with you unless you get preferential treatment?

You obviously just like to argue and are very inconsiderate to other people around you. Apparently yours is the only way and you are always right! Good job.

The idea behind consolidating individuals who want/ need extra boarding assistance from crew is so the crew can be assembled to assist.

There is no non emotional reason that folks with disabilities need Priority boarding. Logically, the idea that someone is unable to wait in the climate controlled boarding area with other fellow passengers and must be on the ship to wait for the other passengers to board? That those 20 minutes are harmful versus the next 7 days of being in a shipful of the same passengers in the MDR, lido, pool, casino, showroom, etc.

Lol. Same can be said of you. It is funny that you say I am inconsiderate, when I state when I was injured and the time I traveled with a disabled person, I was considerate of others be no expecting preferential treatment and waiting my turn. Where as you, in the same situation, would be inconsiderate of others around you and expect preferential treatment.

This is easy to fix. Disabled board with everybody else and no special treatment. Then there is no problem. I am disable and have to travel in a scooter to get around. I open my own doors, pull my own luggage and don't ask for any special treatment. I just got back off of the Triumph and I just waited in my assigned zone to get on the ship. Also if you are in a wheelchair or scooter when you go thru security you have to be patted down. But you know no complaints for I am cruising and on vacation. If grandma feels that she just has to get on first them that is her problem. I have other things to worry about then who gets on first. This is a petty problem to spend so much time to worry about. Now let's chat about the crew on the ship. They will go above and beyond to help you if you are disabled. GOOD CRUISING

No, Thommy____Boy does make a very good point. It's the entitlement attitude that's really disturbing. Those not disabled and take advantage of Carnival and its passengers are the ones making it difficult for others So, everyone should wait their turn REGARDLESS of their condition in life.

I'M disabled becauce of the west nile virus, and left me with no nerves in my right leg. Iwent on the breeze 3 weeks ago and they treated me great. i ONLY needed a wheelchair becauce i couldn't get up the ramp very well with my walker. But once of the ship i was okey becauce of a 7000 dollars brace i have but what i'm tryin to say is they offered me a wheelchair which i didn't really want but for safety reasons i took it and was willing to wait in line also. And to the person on page one that said they seen the same person dancing the week away , that was probably me with my locking mode on my brace to stand up with my walker. My doctor told me to try and do as much as i can so i was proud of that.

Ocean dancer i have no other choise but to try my hardest, but people that are disable can wait there turn AS LONG as the cruiseline makes them comfortable enough i think. Myself i even think when it comes to booking a handicap room i've found it hard to get one, but enough said and it would be my pleaser saving a dance for anyone that likes to dance, becauce before these virus affected me my wife and i JUST LOVED dancing but it was takin away from me in a week. Anyone that are disabled god bless them and NEVER GIVE UP.Cruiselines do care about us.

To me, someone who is disabled can't walk and cannot manage for themselves. We're talking about those who aren't disabled and use the wheelchair to get on board before others, because THEY don't want to pay for FTTF or wait in line. If you waited in line like everyone else, there's no problem.

I'm talking about the OP who's daughter is having a bone marrow biopsy and is blind. If she needs to get on first, then let her on! Other people should stop being so petty thinking that they need to hurry and get on before people who do actually need to get our of crowded areas and off their feet. Are you in such a hurry that you wouldn't be willing to wait for a blind girl with cancer to get on board before you so she can be comfortable???

This isn't the "who tries to get over acting handicap" thread. This is about a blind woman needing assistance. Why on earth would anyone have a problem with her going in front of them? You can find people in any kind of situation taking advantage. Not the point or the concerns of the OP.

I said something similar about we would allow her/anyone in a wheelchair to go before us out of respect, but my post was deleted.
