Confused - Navigator post dry dock deck 12 cabins

We decided to book a post dry dock cruise on Navigator to see the changes. We had heard that new cabins were going to be installed on deck 12. We looked at the website and they were listed as Cat E2, aft Superior Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony. The new deck plans had not been posted to the website yet. Based on previous cruises, we thought they would be toward the back of the ship.

We contacted an RCCL agent who also didn't have any deck plans (I guess they also go by the website) and she made the same assumption (I know, I know) that we did that the aft balcony would be on the very back.

We put a hold on the cabin since we were using our Visa points for this cruise. We had finally accrued enough points for a Caribbean Cruise for two. After the hold was placed by our TA, we traded in our points for the cruise. We received a confirmation from RCCL (not just our TA) that we were booked in a Cat E2, Superior Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony cabin #1884.

We have friends that then booked the same type cabin next door to us in cabin #1886.

About a month after we booked, RCCL finally posted the post dry dock deck plans and lo and behold our cabin is not aft, but far forward. The cabin listing (not deck plan) still shows it as an aft balcony (even today). The flow rider is being installed where we thought our cabin would be. We thought, oh well, it will be an experience being that far forward and we will still be on a cruise and not at work.

Fast forward to this past Monday when we were 90 days out. I just happened to login to our RCCL account and noticed that we were no longer booked in our cabin on deck 12. We are now booked in a D3 category on deck 6 cabin that is the very first cabin on starboard side. What the???? We had not received any notification from RCCL about the move.

I had our friends who also booked with us look and they had the same thing except instead of being in the cabin next to us, they were now 3 cabins down.

We called our TA who contacted RCCL, because RCCL wouldn't talk to us directly because we booked through her. She was told that the E2 Superior Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony is actually a Cat J cabin with the virtual balcony. She also wasn't notified of the change and is still trying to work with them to get this figured out.

So, according to a conflict resolution specialist, not only was / is the website wrong about the cabin being aft, it is wrong about the type of cabin it is (E2 vs J).

Now, what is really going to tick us off is if the deck 12 cabin really is a balcony and we were moved to deck 6.

We were wondering if anyone else who has booked one of these cabins have run into the same problems yet.

If you go to the Royal website you can find the deck plans for all their ships. For Navigator, the menu of decks that comes up is for the balance of this year, but below that you can change the date to the revised deck plans. Deck 12 on the new plan clearly shows all cabins up front.

NOW you can see the deck plans after the drydock, but when we booked in Aug, the deck plans weren't available on the website (even the option to switch over link below the deck selection drop down menu). Even the RCCL agent we talked to couldn't see the plans.

Had we been able to see the deck plans in Aug, we would not have booked one of the new deck 12 cabins since it is forward. We always book hump to aft.

It is my understanding that all the new cabins on NOS are interior virtual balcony rooms. So, you were given rooms to fit your reserved cat.

I believe there are about a dozen E2 balcony (non-virtual) rooms coming on deck 12 forward.

I agree. I was able to pick up a new Royal Caribbean cruise brochure while on the Majesty this past September. The deck plan maps do show new balcony cabins on Deck 12 forward on the Navigator.

I'd be surprised if they didn't make the forward rooms on deck 12 balconies or ocean view. Doesn't make sense to me that they'd be virtual balconies as you were told. But then that raises the question why did they move you (and tour friends). Very confusing.

I was just looking at the new deck plans, and I agree with others...there are definitely some new balcony cabins on Deck 12, and I'm not sure why they moved you. One possibility is they aren't sure the new cabins will be complete in time for your sailing, so they're not going to sell them until the last minute.

I saw an interesting change on Deck 5. The Champagne Bar is now the R Bar, and the description makes reference to the nightly Centrum theme and entertainment. Here's the PDF:

Deck 12 cabins are forward-facing panoramic ocean view cabins or side-facing balcony cabins:

Thanks for posting this. This is the same plan shown in the Royal Caribbean brouchure.

I was researching a Navigator cruise for next year after the dry dock. The E2 category balcony cabins were available to be booked at the time. I have not checked back in a while so I can't say if they are still available or not.

Our TA was under the same assumption that the balconies might not be ready by the time we sailed. We are the 3rd sailing after the drydock.

BUT when our TA talked to an RCCL conflict resolution specialist, she was told that even though the cabin we booked (1884) was listed as an E2 category, it was a J category and a virtual balcony.....

Our TA is supposed to talk to someone else at RCCL this weekend after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Just curious - your new cabin is 6214 (a D3)?

Just speculating (which is about all I can do). Look's like cabin 1884 is a P2 according to the deck plans. Granted they were not available at time of booking, but that is what is showing now for the cabin. I'm wondering if RCCL somehow detected that you had booked a balcony cabin, but was in a non-balcony cabin and tried to rectify the error by moving you to a balcony cabin - 6214. (If you are in the first E2 starboard on deck 6, that would be 6252.)

I imagine what happened is when they moved you to an actual balcony cabin, they used what they had available. (The aft and hump cabins were probably long gone by time of reassignment - 90 to 120 days out.) If you are now in 6214, the cabin and balcony is larger, plus you have a balcony instead of a video wall in 1884.

If it is any comfort, I have sailed Navigator several times the past few years. She is a beautiful ship, with a great crew. (In fact, we are researching another cruise on her as we correspond.) Guess you could say she is one of our favorite ships. (We want to fail Freedom Class, but that is about as large as we plan to go.)

I hope you get this resolved to your liking. But, I do think you would enjoy the "real" balcony instead of the virtual one.

When I got on RCI, I saw cabins on Deck 12 available to book in April when I'm sailing, but not in February. Knowing how unpredictable drydocks can be, I suspect the new cabins have been removed from inventory temporarily.

The J category doesn't make a lot of sense, because those are going to be inside cabins and they've been on the deck plans for months on decks 9 & 10.

The D3 is considered an upgrade from the E2, so it is a little bit larger balcony. We understand that it is a possibility that they moved us do to the cabins not being ready...

The biggest upset was that they didn't notify us or our TA that they moved us. I just happened to look on RCCL for our reservation and I found that we had been moved.

1884 is clearly an E2 balcony

I wouldn't be happy if we got moved after booking a certain cabin

That was one of the cabins that we were looking at for our cruise but I wanted to wait till I saw some reviews before booking those new cabins

Our TA is still being told the E2 cabins on deck 12 are actually cat J cabins and not balconies like what the website currently says they are. We called RCCL tonight just to inquire about the new cabins and we were told they ARE cat E2 real balconies that we can walk out on.

The big problem that we have is that we were moved without being notified and we still can't get a reason as to why we were moved. IF the E2 cabin really is a J cabin, then tell us, but no one is saying anything as to WHY we were moved.

We have a confirmation letter from RCCL when we originally booked for the E2 deck 12 balcony cabin 1884. We have not received an official change in stateroom notification confirmation letter or anything. The only way we know which cabin we are in is our reservation on the website.

The conflict resolution specialist said the only thing they can do is a small OBC and a free bottle of wine. We would accept that IF someone could tell us WHY we were moved and WHY we weren't notified.

If we get on the ship and the deck 12 cabin really is a balcony and someone else has it booked, there will be he** to pay.

AND we can't even fight this battle, we have to rely on our TA to do our talking and she is doing a great job fighting for us.

We are having a similar issue with our reservation. We had booked a category J (Virtual balcony) on deck 10 for 4 people. Over the weekend I noticed our room was listed as available. When I looked at my reservation on the RCCL site I found we had been moved to deck 2, an ocean view. I immediately called my TA and he spent over an hour arguing with RCCL about the change with no notice. Certainly moving from deck 10 to deck 2 is NOT an upgrade as RCCL offered. Now RCCL is saying they are NOT changing the interior K rooms on decks 9 and 10 that hold more than 2 people. Once again a slam for customer service!

Wow... I can see why they would book the new rooms after drydock now, but it seems like they have a lot of work to do.
