I lucked out tonight. I worked an hour over tonight and got home at 11:30, so I could read the entire set of posts all in one fell swoop when I got home! I laughed and laughed, then I got mad cause you were stood up. But did you get some great pictures for us!!!

Planma'am and I were in the Spa when all those other ships were leaving the International port in front of our ship (the Spa was in the front). That was awesome to watch.

I think I might have seen "Mr. White" in the gym early one morning. I just don't remember if there were tattoos......so maybe not. Funny stories though.

yes..we all want to know what happened to your Dawn friends?

When we were on our Alaskan cruise on the Princess Saphire we were supposed to meet old friends of mine who had moved to the Youkon in one of the ports.

We got off the ship nice and early looked around..no friends. Walked up and down the length of the pier several times, sat in one spot and waited while many many people were boarding trains and other vechicles for their excursions. finally we decided we better just book a tour or we would miss out. We ended up doing a lovely bus tour and had a great time.

When we got back home we discovered, there had been a mis-communication. They thought we were meeting for lunch then going for the afternoon. So they showed up at lunch time...we were long gone.

We learned a big lesson that day..no more planning to meet up with anyone in port who is not on the ship with us. Too many things can go wrong.

Great job on your review! I really enjoy your photos, and how you manage to capture so many of the often overlooked details.

We will be on the Jewel in a few weeks for our first NCL cruise. I am really looking forward to the food, entertainment, and Slim Time. Hopefully the "slow"ness of things on the ship will be resolved and the crew will be in a routine.

Happy New Year!

Thanks again for tonights entertainment. Go ahead and get your much deserved sleep.:D

If you have time tomorrow, this inquiring mind would like to know......

which did you enjoy more, Nachi or Mr. Sanchos?

Well I would have to say that we "enjoyed" Mr Sanchos more simply for the fact that we were able to use the beach with our little one. I honestly think that Nachi probably "looks" better with the palapas spread out and people are not sitting on top of each other. But Mr Sanchos definitely felt a lot bigger. I don't have a real problem with crowds at the beaches, but some may and I know those are the ones that prefer Nachi because of their 100 person limit. I think the food at Nachi was probably better as well. But over all, I liked Mr Sanchos the most. Especially since there was "some" snorkeling to be done there unlike Nachi.

Glad I could give you a bit of a laugh after ending your day. hehe :D Today is my second work day since returning and New Years Eve. Ugh. I hate getting off work and driving home at midnight when all of the drunks are out.

So I'm dying to know if you have spoken with your Dawn friends since you go back and what happened to them?

Also, I must have missed it, what does AI and PAYG stand for? Are those neighboring resorts?

Yes, I have spoke with them.

AI is All Inclusive, which means that all your drinks and food are included in the price. :D

PAYG-Pay as you go. You sometimes pay an admission prices and some places you don't. Your food and drink is purchased as you buy them.

Thanks so much for the pics and review! Can't wait to read them all in between holiday clean ups. Leaving in a couple of weeks to board the Jewel.

I hope you have a wonderful cruise. :)

I have learned my lesson as well. I will never try to meet up with someone in port unless they are on my cruise. I will also NEVER let someone else pick where to go while in port because that's where they want to go. I will decide the perfect place for me and if they want to show up, they can, but I will not spend a majority of my time (well any of my time actually) looking for anyone. Everyone knows what I look like, they can hunt me down. :p Lesson learned.

Happy New Years everyone! May 2014 bring you health happiness..and wonderful adventures!

Looking forward to seeing some of our rollcall buddies following this thread in a couple of weeks!

Angela

Happy New Years to you as well. :)

definitely a story there...reading between the lines of course!

When we got home the "friend" was not happy at all...she is older and has never cruised and said "well Angela no one ever gets off the ship as soon as it docs" I said "well XXXX I hate to argue with you but everyone gets off as early as they can so they can make the most of their day, of course we were not going to waste half of our day sitting around"

I was "miffed" at wasting about 2 hours waiting for them to show up and though we really enjoyed the tour we took, it is not what we would have done had we planned something else for that day.

I find every trip I take...cruise, land, escorted tour, road, whatever kind of trip

it is I learn at least one thing about what I will or...won't do in the future.

Glad you were able to make the most of your day!

Have a good shift tonight.

Oh I forgot to tell you...My DH is loving all your pics as well. I read the new posts for the day, then in the evening just scroll through and show him the pics and summarize the days events, stories, tidbits etc.

He had "that" look when I told him about your DH taking off for hours and leaving you. he was re-living a similar event in our family and got that deer in the headlights look and all he said was "uh oh" hahahahha

I think all couples have faced something similar at sometime..and all Hubbies have had the sympathy of their fellow Husbands, knowing the wrath of a wife pissed off in public ;) lol A mistake they make only once..if they are smart hahaha

I LOVED the pic of your DH in the "are you sure" photo priceless!

We are out tonight then I am entertaining tomorrow and Thursday so not sure how much I will be able to "check in" over the next couple of days..but I look forward to seeing the next installment!

Sorry guys, I had every intention on trying to finish up my Cozumel day, but I has so much running to do before work. It's now time for work, so I'm off. I will be back tonight to finish the rest of my Friday on the ship...so grab a drink and some snacks and stay tuned. We will not be going out in the madness and spend tonight safely at home so I should have plenty of time to play some catch up.

Until tonight...I hope my cruise critic family has a safe and wonderful New Years Eve. :)

Thank you so much for your review. I have enjoyed hearing about your trip and seeing the photos. You may have a second calling in a career with travel and photos!

We were on the Jewel for the Thanksgiving cruise but had different ports. I have visited your ports before on another cruise and enjoyed seeing them. I would love to get back to Grand Cayman soon.

I'm going to have to check out your camera. I could not find my Canon aim and shoot for our cruise (found it just this week..imagine that!) I had to depend on the iphone.

We found that the Jewel operated "behind" too. It is only my 4th cruise (3rd on NCL) and it had been awhile. I can be impatient but good to hear it wasn't just me.

I'm not a chocolate person and went to the chocolate buffet for the first time this cruise. BF is big into chocolate. But I was overstuffed from dinner that I didn't eat a thing there. I wish they did it a little later in the evening.

Anxious to hear how your cruise ends (and sorry it had to end).

FYI, my journal/review is now on the Member Review page. A couple of post scripts are that we thought Jaimie, the CD, was very good and professional and not overbearing as some have been in the past, and for those of you who complain about the blandness of the food, seek out the readily available hot sauce. I'm ready to book the Sun out of Tampa for Jan.'15, as the Jewel from Houston does not go to Costa Maya and I don't like the fact that the Dawn out of NOLA is missing a Great OUtdoors and an observ. lounge. We've sailed the Sun before and really enjoyed it. steve

I don't think so since I have arranged all of the meet & greets on every cruise we have been on (except Epic) and never got it then.

Like I said in my review, we also received letters for VIP in a different name and in our name. The other persons name was a new cruiser and they had VIP as well. So I have no clue.

Kim,

I've heard before of people getting VIP status for arranging the M & G. Never happened to me, either, but it has been discussed before, so...............maybe?

BTW, We got home at midnight last night, and Mike gave me his cold he caught by the end of the cruise for Christmas. :( I don't return to work until Thursday, so I'm enjoying reliving the cruise through your review. Robin and I will be starting our review this weekend; it should be a different view of the same cruise but with overlapping parts. So glad to hear you're getting lots of days off now so the review gets a higher priority! Keep it coming!

I always have friends tell me that I need to be a TA. :D

We love Grand Cayman and do want to head back. There's an awesome place we want to go there that reminds me of Bermuda (not that I have been to Bermuda "yet" but have looked at enough pictures to know what it looks like with the huge rocks sticking up out of the ocean). So fingers crossed we get to go back some time in the future.

It sounds like the Jewel crew is still the same from when you cruised. I thought maybe it was just that we were sailing at full capacity, but then again you might have been too since it was a holiday.
